Disclaimer (Somewhat): I'm sure most the members here know I'm a fan of the Twilight Saga. I post at Stephenie Meyer's IMDb board where a lot of posters compare Twilight to Harry Potter, and use Harry Potter to bash Twilight. Or compare Stephenie Meyer to JK Rowling, and use JK Rowling as a way to bash Stephenie Meyer. Now, I've never read any of the Harry Potter books, so I don't know how I feel about them, but if I had read them and didn't like them, I assure you I would not go on the author's or any of the book/movie boards and trash the series or the author. I would just chalk it up to the series not being my cup of tea and leave it at that. Not every story or author is going to be everyone's cup of tea, and there's nothing wrong with that.
I have no problem with posters comparing authors/stories to each other, but please be respectful of authors/stories, and posters who love authors/stories, that you can't stand. Author/story bashing and flaming will not be tolerated. Thank you.
This thread is about stories that become phenomenons. What caused the stories to become so popular? Where in the story did the fire ignite? Why are you such a huge fan of the story/series? In what cases do you prefer the movie to the story or the story to the movie? Why?
I use the word 'story' instead of 'book' because nowadays there are many ways & types of devices to read a 'story': webpage, eBook, book, phone, magazine, etc. And also, some stories are not book length. Many a movie has been based on short stories, flash, novelettes, poems, etc.
