Hi,
I've just discovered a long since cancelled TV series called Roar and I don't see a Whoosh board/sub board on it.
Are there any other fans here?
Just curious,

I've never seen "Roar"; never heard of it actually. But, ooooo - American Gothic. So creepy. I loved that show, and never missed an episode. Thanks for the info that it's now out on DVD, Joxie.

You're welcome Phalon... I bought it! I think you'd like Roar... it was also a Shaun Cassidy show.

I have never heard of Roar. I am a Prymistic fan, though. How are you, Rainbow?
Shaun Cassidy? I didn't know you were a fan of his, Gams. I shall send some of his music your way.

Hello! I was the BIGGEST SC fan ever. My room was plastered with his image in h.s. Ummmm, that should date me pretty clearly. Had no clue about Roar until it came on SciFi channel this week and my sweetie said it was one of his all time fav shows. Hasn't been on since '97. There are no dvd's but there is a petition to get them: www.petitiononline.com/roar1997/petition.htmlSooooo, anyway, I watched an ep and got totally totally hooked. It's got the same feel to me as Xena, in terms of production values and that it is based on a mythological past. A plus is that it starred Heath Ledger who is right now making oscar buzz for Brokeback Mountain. And hello there sticky G. How have you been? Made it into town lately? the mysterious mystic

American Gothic was da bomb and gave me a whole new respect for Shaun Cassidy. The boy in that did such a great job; even now around the house we pipe up, for now apparent reason whatsoever (isn't that one of those Phalon words about running words together?), "Marley."
And a big HELLO to prainbow!

Hello, again, Well, let's try this little posting thing one more time... Ahem. I was personally the BIGGEST fan of SC in my h.s. which should date me pretty accurately. Found "Roar" when it came on the scifi channel and my sweetie announced that it was one of his favs. It is not out on dvd yet, but there is a petition to bring that about: www.petitiononline.com/roar1997/petition.htmlI like "Roar" because it reminds me of XWP; same production values, similar theme. "Long Ago at the edge of the known world The last Celtic Tribes Were fighting for survival Europe had fallen to the Romans And this remote and untamed island Was the final strongehold of the Ancient ways." A plus is that it starrred a young Heath Ledger who is making oscar buzz with his performance in "Brokeback Mountain." And a "Howdy" to you, sticky G. Made it into town lately? mysterious mystic

I had no clue who Heath Ledger was for the longest time, and then when I caught repeats of Roar on the Sci-Fi channel I realized I was a fan long before most everyone else was.
I posted an image from Roar in a thread somewhere ages ago... it was a flag... I think it was at ezWhoosh in one of G-Sticks stick threads.
The flag had a woman holding a round thing.

hey Joxie,
That's cool. Unfortunately I think that the round thingy is a wreath.
There's been 65 more signers on that petition this week. But I'm not holding my breath. I've set to record the marathon on Feb 2 scifi channel.
I like the Catlin character. Tough chick.

Yeah, she's a Roman goddess... I forget the name... went to ezWhoosh and found the info:
I have already taped all 13 episodes off of the sci-fi channel. The DVDs will have bonus stuff I'm sure, so if it ever comes out I will be getting it as well. If not, I'll get me a DVD burner and burn my VHSs to DVDs...

What I want to know is how to burn Tivo to dvd! Interesting that both Xena and the Irish in Roar were up against the Roman machine.

I don't have Tivo, so I don't have an answer. I have seen that question a lot though, so I'm assuming it can't be done at the present time. I could be wrong though.

Oooh... about the Romans.... They spread pretty far before their fall, so I'm sure a lot of tales can be told from many countrymen's viewpoint.

Well Joxie you're right. And nearly all were magical, pre Christian societies. Although I do wish that Roar had continued, and that I had been aware of it when it was on, that's because of my own Irish background. I can see any number of similar shows.
It's kind of interesting to imagine.
Of course now, it is the U.S. culture that is spread so far and wide, for good or ill. I wonder if theatrical works in the future will revolve around our influence abroad.

Hey there, mystic! Wow, great seeing you!
Heath was awfully cute in "Roar", if too grubby for my taste. My friend Patti and I have compromised over Keith Urban. She likes him in his rock star grunginess. I'll take him after a shower.
But still, Heath had charisma, even then.
I, too, caught a Xena-esque vibe from this show.

I agree, Siren, he was cute in Roar. Nice difference in the portrayal in Brokeback Mountain. Really shows off his range.
Hey Joxie, could you move this thread to the proper TV shows space?
Although my enjoyment of it is somewhat related to my love of shows like Xena, it probably belongs elsewhere.
PLUS! There's a Roar marathon on SciFi on this coming Thursday, 2 February 2006.....ironically enough also known as Brigit's Day to some of us Pagan folk. Hmmmmm Coincidence? I think not.

I hope that I don't lose anybody in this transition. I just thought it was more appropriate here.
Thanks for your help!

And since this is a Shaun Cassidy project, and he was in partnership with Rob Tapert & Sam Raimi on American Gothic, I'm moving this back to where I apparently should have left it.

Hey!
That's great! I wonder if we can get any xena fan type traction on the issue of having ROAR released on DVD? I've thought about trying to write to Shaun Cassidy, but I couldn't think of anything to say that would really make any difference.
ROAR has a xena/herc feel to it, great fighting, bad romans and strong females. It's (sigh) really great.
Thanks for pulling this thread back out of obscurity.

You're very welcome. I bought the American Gothic DVDs and discovered that Rob & Sam were partners with Shaun, and then when I watched some eps the other day, the end credits had a RenPics Productions logo. So I thought adding all the RenPics works to this board might liven it up some... then I thought why not add works that are a 2nd degree of RenPics... (Such as Shaun's other works)... and then I decided to also include Mythology. (Which also includes Roar.) We'll see if it gets more threads going in here or not.

Don't pay any attention to the info on the DVD covers. They're wrong. Here's how the info is listed:
Disc One:
Pilot Projector The Chosen Banshee Sweet Brigit
Disc Two:
Red Boot The Spear of Destiny The Eternal Doyle's Solution
Disc Three
Traps Daybreak The Cage Tash
But when you insert the DVDs into the players, here's what you really get:
Disc One:
Pilot Projector The Chosen Banshee
Disc Two:
Doyle's Solution Red Boot The Spear of Destiny The Eternal
Disc Three:
Tash Traps Daybreak The Cage Sweet Brigit (Bridget -- according to the Sci-Fi channel & IMDb.com)
