Terms of Service

In case you don't remember what the Membership Agreement states, please read it now and follow it closely, as ProBoards is very strict and will delete a forum or a membership without giving any warning. Membership is for those who are 13 years of age or older, and no adult material that is not suitable for a 13-year-old is allowed on the boards. Thanks for helping to keep us from being deleted... please be sure to save threads that are your favorite so that they won't be lost due to unforeseen circumstances.

Hotlinking images that are not yours, without permission, is not allowed.

What is hotlinking?

Hotlinking is when you display an image at one site, when it is hosted at another site.  Hotlinking is the only way to display images at this forum, because we don't actually store our images here, but at our photobucket albums.

For example:  Right-click (click the right mouse button) on this image [image] and choose “Properties” at the bottom of the list.  Notice that it begins with http://i261.photobucket.com/, and NOT http://whooshorg.proboards.com, where you are right now.  That is because the image is not hosted on the same domain as this message board, which means that it is hotlinked from the photobucket album to here. Edit: Please see the topic, "Where to host your images for posting" for info on where to store your images.

  • You may display images that are stored on your own website, as long as they are not vulgar and don't display nudity.

  • You may display images on this board that are stored on our forum photobucket photo albums. (Forum Smilies)

  • You may not display images on this board that are stored elsewhere, without the site owner's permission.

  • If you want to show someone a picture that is stored on someone else's website, please provide a link to the webpage and describe the image, OR you may provide a link to the webpage along with an additional link to the image itself.  The reason they have the images there is to get people to visit their site, so the least we can do is provide a link to their webpage, if we want to show people their images. :)

Why can't we post other people's images without their permission?

(1) Many web hosts have a daily or monthly quota, as to how much bandwidth a site is allowed to use.  (2) Others charge the website owners extra money for the extra bandwidth they use.  Hotlinking to someone's images without their permission can cause someone's whole website to be inaccessible until the end of the day/month in the case of the former (1), or cost the webmaster a lot of money in the case of the latter (2).

Hotlinking without permission is called bandwidth theft.  It's wrong, it can cause a lot of headaches for the owner of the site where they're stored, and we won't allow it here.

Another side effect of hotlinking images from other people's sites:
(Added May 21, 2005)

Today one of our members pointed out a post she had made a few months ago, that now contained a nude image she did not post. Obviously, since it has been up there for months and many including myself had seen that post before without the image. Also, nobody had edited her post to put the nude image in after the post was made.

How could this happen, you ask? Simple. She made the innocent mistake of posting a smiley that was hosted on somebody else's website. The webmaster, presumably to get back at people for stealing their bandwidth (not just her, but more than likely many others who also liked their smileys), later put in a redirect so that anyone linking their images without permission would see this naked picture instead of the image they had actually intended to post.

This is another prime example of why it is important to host an image yourself if you are going to post it. The image may seem ok to post today — but tomorrow, or next week, or even next year, you may find your own post containing a picture that is not only embarrassing, but another thing (along with the bandwidth theft itself) that violates ProBoards' TOS.

Because of the TOS, members cannot converse in any language other than English. It will get this board deleted. You can converse in other languages at our MSN Groups, however.

3. CONTENT RESTRICTIONS

C. User's message board and Web site must be in English.

Board Deletion?

If you think that your board was deleted, you may have violated the Terms of Service.

Please read the TOS and make sure your board met all the guidelines that you agreed to when you created your forum.

Read The Terms of Service Here

The most common offense is a Foreign Language Violation (Section 3C of the Terms of Service)

That URL you posted above, yes that's a TOS violation. All boards must be in English. Even though is just a thread in non English, it's still a violation. One or two words is prolly ok, but i wouldn't risk it.

As long as the English translation is there in the same post, I think that may be ok. It is best to wait for an Admin over here to confirm either way.
Response: I am always using English with the translation and vice versa.

Because of the TOS, there can be no discussions, images, links to sites, etc. that a 13-year-old cannot/should not read, see, visit, etc. Not even on private boards where only adults have access.

It is also against US law & the TOS to have members 12-years-old or younger... so if you are a member here and you are 12 or younger, you must unjoin this site, as well as ALL other Whoosh groups as of right now.

If any member comes across any violations that could get this forum deleted, please PM Mia with links to that offending violation, or post it on the "Feedback & Complaints" board. Thanks.

UPDATE:

You can post adult material if you first give a warning. It cannot be graphic in nature however.

I just edited the 2nd post here to add:

Another side effect of hotlinking images from other people's sites

Please read it to see yet another reason why hotlinking to images on other people's sites is bad. Thanks.
