All the more reason you might check into an adult refresher course! Anything that might help you get over your fear would be worth a try.

I could come drive you around for a month or so. By the end of that you'd prefer your own driving.

That might not work. I watch the scenery and daydream when riding in the car.
Saturday was Mom's birthday. Hope she had a grand time.

Those can be difficult. I've gotten to the point where my calendar has nearly as many dates of when someone died as it has other stuff. My birthday and three of the cats are all the day. My calendar reminder pops up every month with a reminder of when some family member, or one of cats, or Blue Eyes, passed. Mom's 100th birthday was this past March. They all stir memories and emotions, but it's not all bad memories. I got to the point where they are friendly reminders - if being reminded was a personal problem I'd delete them.

I don't put deaths on my calendar, so I only remember a couple of death dates. Only know a handful of birthdays too. Mom's birthday is easy to keep up with though, because it follows a week and a half after mine. My great-niece's birthday is next Monday. We celebrated today because she will be staying with her dad next week. This is my niece's week with her kids.
We had ribs ... Mom's birthday meal. My great-niece made us sing "Happy Birthday" to both her and Mom. I can't believe she turned eleven this year ... and started middle school too. They added sixth grade to middle school when they built the new school a few years ago. She also loves my car and wants it. Maybe I'll let her have it when she turns sixteen ... or maybe not.
Saturday wasn't so bad. I think it's because I knew it was coming. If it had of snuck up on me I might have had a harder time.

That's a nice way to remember her. I honestly don't know if mom had a favorite meal, but I sure did like Thanksgiving and Christmas. (When we came back from Turkey, we came home to a full blown T-Day supper even though it was just the three of us. Both of those meant turkey with all of the fixings - and somehow there was always some for turkey sandwiches the next day. And she made the best homemade cranberry sauce - I've been trying for years but haven't duplicated it yet. She had some other surprises too, but she made the most of those turkeys. Maybe that was it for her - not "her" favorite meal per se, but cooking that favorite thing for all of us.

Ribs is what Mom always asked for for her birthday meal, and her great-grandbaby asked for them this time round.

I like ribs - either beef or pork – especially when grilled.

Hope it was a good one, Scrappy. (Secretly, I hope the ambush was successful; I'd have loved to see the surprised look on your face.)
Cheers!

Happy Birthday, Joxie! Belated, of course....though I think this is the closest I ever got to being on time!
Hope it was grand.

Thank you. Yesterday was just a regular day. My sister's grandkids were at their dad's, and we're not allowed to do anything when they're not here, so I had my dinner tonight. Had to share it with my nephew's new girlfriend. Her birthday is Tuesday.
I drove twice this week. I still don't like when a car is behind me, but I love the cruise control, so I don't have to let my nervousness effect my speed. My sister is thrilled that she doesn't have to take time away from her day when I need to do something locally. It still feels strange for me to be out and about all on my own.
I have jury duty Wednesday, unless they cancel it, so I could have to drive again next week. At least the two times this week I didn't let it eat at me. So, hopefully I'm on the upward swing of it.

LX had a shared birthday this year too. Hers is this week, but she was unable to come home - Friday was the last day of her internship at the chamber of commerce, she was working a DQ booth on Saturday for an event at the university (all the local businesses give away free stuff; college kids love free stuff), and classes start today. Since she couldn't come home, I took BP, BP's friend, and LX's old college dorm roommate up to LX's apartment on Friday, so they could all spend the weekend together. Hubs and I went up yesterday morning, and took them all out for lunch. LX's friend's birthday is this week too, and the restaurant made a big deal out of the two girls both turning 22 - the staff paraded to the table, clapping on the way, sang at the table, and presented them both with hot fudge brownies with ice-cream and whipped cream. The girls were, of course, embarrassed, but not embarrassed enough to turn down free dessert! And the desserts were big enough for all six of us to share!

I even got presents this year. Most likely due to the new girlfriend, who got presents too. I made the comment that I keep sliding further and further down the totem pole. Truth is, when you're already at the bottom, there's no way to slide down ... I just can't climb up. A co-worker once told me that without the bottom, the totem pole wouldn't be able to stand, and so it is the most important part of the pole.

What a great way to put a positive spin on it!

Yeah. Made me feel better about being at the bottom. I wouldn't mind being up higher every once in a while though.

A day late and a birthday candle short (which might actually not be a bad thing)...
Happy (Belated) Birthday, Joxie!
