I've even stated that if Lucy & Reneé weren't signed up to do the Xena movie, that Jennifer Garner would make a good Xena.

Come on, Mij....you didn't even like the tattoo guy with his living designs?? I know it wasn't classic work, but I guess we must've been in the mood for it. I somehow knew you would feel this way....

And yes, Jox, I can see her as Xena easily....I think I made that comment last night & got an evil eye from ILB.....

We are in an Austin Power's kick at our house right now. Z thinks they are hilarious and I had never seen them, so she is schooling me in the fine art of watchinbg bubblegum...my first impression was She says it is just a movie to laugh with not to analyze...no wonder they weren't on my gotta see in the theater list...But there are some comments on the sly that made me bust up.

Ah...yes, the girls were also in the Austin Powers "groove" this weekend (could hear them he-hawing all the way in the livingroom). Truly campy stuff, but I like Mike Myers--think he's very talented when he puts his mind to it...saw him with Gwyn Paltrow in VIEW FROM THE TOP--cute movie that also has Christina Applegate.....who also stars in one of my all-time favorites... THE SWEETEST THING (chick-flic, Mij, I know... )....Cameron Diaz & Selma Blair--(was in which Xena ep??-trivia for the day).... GP...have you watched ZOOLANDER? Great choice for family night...we all like this one....& the girls crack up every time!!

Ja, Kurt is definitely the man's man though & adds something to even otherwise average movies. Tequila Sunrise I'm thinking of you.... I can never make my mind up about Angelina Jolie... Sometimes I think she is the 3rd sexiest woman on the planet & other times a total waste of screen time.... I don't know why Salma Hayek keeps trying to break out of Robert Rodriguez movies as the token sex symbol though, I mean, she's got that role for as long at RR keeps making movies!!!!! Oh yeah, the artist challenge to an actor.... right, I forgot, she's an actor.... Just picked up Kalifornia yesterday on a whim (& cheap, thus the whim). Now that is a good movie

Kalifornia...IMO one of Brad's better performances, as well as Juliette Lewis.

The Sweetest Thing is definately in our dvd library at home...too funny...right along with Romy and Michelle's High school reunion and A Life Less Ordinary and Life or something like it. They all go great with popcorn. I haven't see Kalifornia in forever. How about ED TV that was good when I first saw it.
I tend to forget about good bubblegum movies until I see it again in an advertisement or you all mention it.
We are on a comedian kick lately. Margaret Cho and Ellen the beginning, and lets not forget Eddie Izzard dressed to kill. Anything that makes us laugh as a family right now is good.

Watched a couple of "oldies" last night. Cape Fear [ The original 62 version ] far better then Scorsese's appaling remake, with Mitchum's Max Cady being far more effective due to his underplaying of the character, which made him far more menacing then De Niro's caricature depiction.
Also The Children's Hour, aka, The Loudest Whisper, which depicts the harm, and even tragedy, that can ensue from lies and gossip.
Tightly scripted, and with good performances, especially from Shirley MacLaine as Martha, the more vulnerable of the two women who's lives are destroyed by a childs malicious lies.

Everyone just slid right past my trivia question for the day....no one have an answer?? Ja, going to have to ask for a hint MG... BTW, Kingdom Of Heaven (despite Legolam, I mean, Orlando Bloom) looks like it might be a winner, especially compared to recent efforts like Troy & Alexander. Reason being, Ridley Scott is the director, the man who brought you Gladiator, Alien & Blade Runner, he knows how to keep a movie like this ticking over

Hopefully i'll be off to see this [ Kingdom of Heaven ] tomorrow, with great anticipation. As you point out, any new movie by Ridley Scott is an event worth waiting for. Even his lesser films are visually stunning, and if this one is anywhere near the quality of Gladiator i'll be well satisified.

Three thumbs up on "Kingdom..." I'm in agreement with the guys on this one--can't wait. Makes me want to get out "Gladiator" & watch it again....
I have to track down this movie, katina....it sounds great & I don't remember ever seeing it.....the S. Mcclaine one.....
Selma really stuck out in this xena ep.....

"I have to track down this movie, katina....it sounds great & I don't remember ever seeing it.....the S. Mcclaine one....." Yep, as I see you like the older movies, you should do yourself a favour and track this one down, really worth seeing. A Patch of Blue with Sydney Poitier and Elizabeth Hartman is another I highly recommend. I cheated [ well just a little ] on the Selma Blair question. I wasn't sure I was thinking of the right person, so looked up her photo, and as soon as I saw it I knew [ sort of ] She was in the ep' about the Amazons that was directed by Michael Hurst, but I can't recall the name of it, or of her character. Do I get a pass mark for that, or a slap upside the head for not knowing my Xena episodes enough.

ooh trivia that is always fun. I of course joined the conversation a day late and a dollar short...
Sounds like you like the classics there Kat...I like them when I get in my moods and there are no commercials. I just can't stand a movie on television. If one comes on I want to see I will tape it just so I can ff through the ads. Maybe I am just impatient, but I just don't want to crave the snack food being advertised. Self preservation of my waistline, if you will.
the comedy for this evening was All of me starring lily tomlin and steve martin. Oh man I love that one...

Know how you feel Gp, it nearly drove me nuts sitting through all those commercials. Luckily we've got Foxtel now so can see them uninterupted as they should be seen. I hardly watch free to air at all anymore. As for "self preservation" of the waistline, it's to late for me to worry about that now i'm afraid.

I've been known to actually turn off the tv movie and run to the local video store and rent the darn thing instead of deal with the interuptions. Well not run, but drive quickly...

Good thinking. If something comes up on free to air now i'll usually do the same as you and tape it so I can run through the ads, certaintly helps preserve my sanity, what little there is left of it anyway.

Just got back from seeing Kingdom of Heaven, and can recommend it without hesitation. Directed with Scott's usual flair and verve, it's a large tale told on a grand scale.
Bloom, who seems to cop his fair share of criticsm i've noticed, makes a good fist of the centrel role, and the supporting characters are excellent. Not quite up there with Gladiator, but still a visually stunning and powerful experience, and a worthy addition to Ridley's body of work.
