It irritates me that commercials are broadcast with the volume set so much higher than the show I'm watching. As a consequence I find that I frequently mute commercials. Recently there's been a Kit-Kat commercial that I HAVE to mute. It consists of people loudly munching and snorting on Kit-Kat bars - and it has no appeal what so ever. Sometimes I'll even change the channel and not go back to the original show.
Surely I'm not the only person who finds one or another commercial irritating. Or perhaps there's one that you like. I used to like the Coke commercials where they sang that song "I'd like to teach the world to sing"....and the Polaroid commercials with James Garner and Mariette Hartley were great!

How do you tell somebody you want to make a commercial with them in it, but you're going to strip them and all they get to wear in the commercial is paint.?

I think you tell them about your vision for the commercial, and then ask them if they'd like to be a part of it. You could always fix up a flier, ask them what they think, and then if they seem interested, ask them if they'd like the part. Then you don't have to make copies of the flier to hand out for casting calls.

Rebecca Romijn did a whole movie, wearing nothing but paint, when she was "Mystique" in "X-Men - The Last Stand": movies.about.com/library/weekly/blxmen3picsmm.htmBut then, if I had her figure, I wouldn't be shy, either. ~~~~~~~~~ How about a commercial I hate? This poster remembered it well: boards.straightdope.com/sdmb/showthread.php?t=519295Dopers of a certain age might remember this one: Moronic Hubby (shakes sleeping wife): "Barbara, you up?" (shakes harder) "Barbara, you up?" Barbara: "I'm up now!" MH: "I don't think I can sleep with this cold. My throat's kind of sore!" Babs (sighs and climbs out of bed): "I'll get the aspirin and Sucrets!" Even at 8 years old I wanted to punch this *sshole in the face. ~~~~~~~~~ LOL!! My mother HATED that commercial.

I can understand that one Siren. I have a new commercial that causes me to changes channels. It's supposed to be funny, but they missed the mark. It's a commercial for an anti-persperant. They hooked up hoses to this guy and everytime he raises his arms he sprays everybody as if he's sweating the spray. EUW!

I'm with you, Step - EUW!!
This commercial makes me laugh every year, and I'm not even a parent!

Like the guy in the commercial, I'm doing the happy dance and humming, "It's the most wonderful time of the year"!

Here the schools start late in August and the weekend before schools start all state taxes are suspended on school clothes and supplies. The idea is to make it a little easier for those who are cash strapped.

That "Tax Free Weekend" is a big deal here, too, Step. I know several folks who make a run to your side of the Red to take advantage of the back-to-school sales.

Loved this one then, and I love it now. Model/actor Lucky Vanous became a star overnight (for a new minutes, anyway) as the ultimate cute construction worker. I have his calendar somewhere among all my treasures.

I can understand your interest in that particular commercial Siren.
This isn't the best one, but it's a good example of the James Gardner Marriette Hartley Polaroid commercials.

Yes, it's pretty obvious, Step. I'd have been standing at that office window, too! Those Polaroid commercials sold a LOT of product, back in the day. James (from Norman, OK) and Mariette had such wonderful chemistry, many folks were convinced they must have been married in real life. (They weren't.) Here's another popular commercial series. As I recall, the same commercials advertised "Taster's Choice" here in the States. Anthony Head later appeared on tv's "Buffy, The Vampire Slayer".

With Joxee's digging things up as confirmation, I suspect that may very well be what it feels like. I remember the first time I was going to drive with just the permit. Mom got in the car and took a deep breath like she was on a really scary roller coaster. I looked at her about two seconds and said never mind - she was too nervous. Never did go for a ride that night. Never did figure out why she was so nervous either.

I love that Subaru commercial....and just as the article in Siren's link said it could make a person do, I welled up the first time I saw it.
Mom always said the first time she handed me the car keys was the day she went gray, (although I seem to remember quite a few strands prior to that day).
I've been teaching LX to drive; I can't believe she'll be old enough to get her license next year!!! ACK! I can't find any gray now, but in a year, I'll probably have a head full of it! I took her to the cemetary this evening - lots of very winding roads, turns, and hills to practice on. It kind of had her nervous - she's only driven around empty parking lots, and maybe around the block a handful of times. I told her not to worry, "It's not like you can hurt anyone here." "Ar, ar. Very funny, Mom." Aren't you all glad you're not my child?
I've been seeing this commercial for Orbit gum a lot lately. For some reason it reminds me of the Mentos commercials which I've always thought of as parodies of the old DoubleMint commercials; are they supposed to be funny or are they just cheesy?

Two observations. You spend an inordinate amount of time in cemeteries. Two - driving in cemeteries is not limited to you. Same thing happened here – one cemetery back close to home was the same. Hilly and quiet. You couldn’t learn to parallel park, but it was practice for everything else. Excluding traffic. There didn’t seem to be much traffic there, and no one was driving very fast. Fortunately, it turned out that other people on the road and higher speeds didn’t bother me.

In honor of the Halloween weekend, here's a classic from Coors Light and Elvira, Mistress of the Dark. Every year, we looked forward to these spots, and the life-size Elvira cardboard standups at the corner store, and still wish Coors Light would bring them back.
