You know, Joxie, that I entered this thread dragging my heels, because you know I'd know what I'd find.
You know me too well.
Yes, yes, I've noticed everyone has on their seasonal attire, and I was actually going to ask you if the Imp had been lost in the upgrade.
I'll figure it out eventually.
Yeppers, I do know you fairly well. I switched out your avatar. You can switch it out for the Turkey Leg after Halloween.
I hate when the changes from one upgrade to another are so drastic, and you have to relearn everything. And that is as big a hassle as switching from an old computer to a new one. I think I'm going to do like Stepper and move everything to an external hard drive &/or thumb drives and keep it there. And keep backup copies on DVDs &/or extra thumb drives.
The drop down menu is now at the top of the page. It's on the white bar under the blue bar. Just hover over either "Whoosh!" for other board options, or the "..." to go back to the board this thread is on. Just hover over things and click on links to see what they do. Be very careful not to click on the word "Delete," unless that's what you mean to do.
BBCode is the code you use to center your text/image, choose a font face, font size, font color, quote, add a video, etc. They've made changes to them. I have to use [font size="3"] now instead of [size=3]. And that's an easy one. Some of the others have gotten even harder than that. So, I usually type my post in the "BBCode" box, then click on "Preview" and click back on "BBCode" before creating my post. That usually switches the old code for the new, and I try to remember the changes for next time. I may just give up and start using the buttons.

The Imp thanks you. I thank you. The jury's still out on whether or not Turkey Gams thanks you.
So far nothing has been too drastic - just a bunch of minor irritations - but I haven't had time to really explore (and get majorly irritated). I want my tool bar back, for example, but I can't remember which one I used; the one that's on here has almost nothing I use on it.
When I first noticed the computer having problems, I copied my Word files and photos to a thumb-drive. Didn't even think about copying e-mails I'd need, or 'my favorites'. Grrr. An even bigger Grrr comes from losing the ability to download anything about half-way through the terminal illness; every time I'd try to download onto or off of a thumb-drive the computer shut down. When it crashed I lost some writing, but mainly the biggest pain is going to be about 100 photos I took of gardens around town for a presentation my boss and I are giving at a garden show in March. I lost every last one of them. Going out today to retake what I can, and hoping the gardens haven't faded too much.
Oh...I get it. Maybe it's just my computer, or the BBCode changes, but the italics code is driving me nuts. Why's it just assume I want to type "I" instead of "i"? I can't even read my own mind; how the hell can a computer or code-thingy know what I'm thinking?

I like the auto-correct sometimes, but it can be very irritating at other times. I've turned it off on occasion.

Well, it was only a matter of time: major irritation occurred last night. All I wanted to do was move a bunch of photos I took into different files. Something so easy....on XP. Why is it that when they "upgrade", they take all the good stuff from the previous program, and through it out the window? Or in this case, Windows.

I have Windows 8. I don't have a start button at all. I have a start page with apps. I _hate_ apps with a passion. I hate 'pinning' shortcuts to my taskbar, instead of having them as icons on the desktop. I now only have 'File Explorer' and 'Live Mail' pinned on the taskbar. And I found a way to get shortcuts to some of my most used programs on my desktop. I use them much more often than the apps on the start page.
Did I mention I miss my start 'button?'

I wrote a BBCode Tutorial for another forum and thought I had copied it over to this one as well ...

If you did, I've no idea where it went.

Would you like a copy on here? Some of the codes may be different from the ones on this forum because I wrote the original for phpBB and then later ported it to an IP.Board forum so had to make a few changes. [Added] I just did a quick forum search on "BBCode" and couldn't find mine but did find " How To" which may be almost as good. If it helps, that's all that matters.

Unfortunately most of the BBCodes have been changed, and that thread will need to be redone.
[url=http://www.whoosh.org]Whoosh.org[/url]
... is now:
[a href="www.whoosh.org"]Whoosh.org[/a]
... and that is pretty easy compared to some of the other changed BBCodes.

Looks like a hybrid of HTML and BBCode to me. My entire tutorial would have to be gone over to change the codes, but the structure would at least provide a guideline of what to look for and explain.
Up to you.

I will try to get to it soon then, as soon as I find I'm coherent enough to spend more than a few minutes a day on the computer. Still recovering from surgery and I caught a horrible cold a couple of days after!

Feel better soon, Spock.
Hey, Joxie! Guess what I did? All by myself even! I've been a member here since...hhmmm...my profile says 2004, but I think it's been longer - one major upgrade before that, maybe. In all that time, I have never, not even once, been able to use the "search" feature on this board and have it bring up something even remotely close to what I was searching.
I was looking for something this morning - that post I made about an owl flying by my head; I thought it happened sometime late winter or early this spring. Went back a few pages in the wild animal thread, the winter, spring, and summer thread, and found nothing. Then I saw that search thing in the thread. Has that always been there, and I haven't noticed? I know it used to be front page news, right up at the top, cuz that's where I'd find it when it wouldn't find anything for me. Anyway, it works!
(I wanted the post btw, for a blog cuz I found something else I've been searching for even longer than I've been searching for anything using the "search" feature: since I was a little kid and I first learned about them in third grade, I've wanted to find an owl pellet. I found three of them. How cool is that? Ok, so I'm a dork. No upgraded search feature needed to find that out.)

You've been with Whoosh longer, but this Proboards forum since 2004. And, yes, the search function was on each thread. Q's forum hasn't upgraded yet, you can go check it out there.
And I'm glad you finally found what you were looking for. I usually found things faster with Google.
No comment on the owl pellets.

The imp is getting restless. It needs its beauty sleep for next Halloween. Just holler if you need/want me to do it.
