We got our first Pfizer vaccine today - the second one will be on the 31st. Because Steppet needs a wheelchair to go any distance they had us drive around the building to a couple of stations where they did all the paperwork, signed us in, gave us our shots, and had us wait to ensure there was no anaphylactic shock. We didn't even get out of the SUV. No side effects which is a good thing of course, but I don't remember having fur and feathers.

Congratulations, Stepper! And very glad they had it set up to accommodate people who don't get around easily, so that Steppette didn't have to leave the vehicle.
You've always had fur, but your feathers seem to missing lately. Where's Woodstock? Maybe after the spring migration, he'll be back. The feathery friend to your furry Snoopy.
Not a word yet on when I'll be able to schedule my vaccination.

Ah, so the side effect is just memory loss then?
Well, the laptop has finally given up the ghost. I am back to using my trusty desktop, which I had to get out of storage and re-install. It's been playing up for a while now but you know how it is, a case of "I'll put up with it a bit longer!" Sadly it is dead, deceased, defunct. Bereft of life it lies forlorn and unused, it has passed on. It is an ex laptop. Strangely enough, the air fryer went 'POOF' at about the same time. They say things come in three's, so we are all watching each other closely!

Quick, Moonglum! Head it off at the pass (is that actually a saying? I'm always getting them mixed up.) Sharpen a pencil and promptly break the tip off as soon as you make the first stroke on paper. And there's your three. No more worries.

Not sure where this best fits - maybe an artist thread somewhere? - the Empowering Women thread? I'll just stick it here, in the catch-all thread.
The girls and I drove to the Chicago area to see a Frida Kahlo exhibit, which included a timeline of her life told in photographs, 26 pieces of her original artwork, and replicas of her clothing, the leather and plaster corset contraptions she had to wear all of her adult life due to horrific injuries suffered during a bus accident when she was 18, and the bed she was often confined to, while still creating her art, and a scaled model of her famous blue house. It was a phenomenal exhibit....and well worth the wait.
We had purchased the tickets at Christmas....in 2019, before the pandemic. The museum closed to the public last year, and thankfully rescheduled the exhibit for this summer.

Maybe Phalon isn't posting because she's working on the 31 days of Halloween? Her big day is only 73 days away and posting day should start about 42 or 43 days from now.

I have been immersed in sort of a comedic horror story lately. Lots of creaking, groaning, moaning, gasps, and maybe a scream or two.
I blew out my knee at work a couple of weeks ago.
Stayed off it for a few days, then moved into a heavy (and highly uncomfortable in all this high humidity!) knee brace, and have been hobbling around since. Just very slow moving, and because I'm always running late in the mornings on even the best of days, I've had no time to check in lately.
All is good though. I'm pretty much back to normal.
HA! Edited to say my knee is pretty much back to normal. Me? Have I ever been?

So sorry to hear about your knee, but glad it's pretty much back to normal. Also glad it wasn't because of one of the girls. My thoughts did go there.

HA! I really kneed to get a leg up on some kind of morning routine.
I spoke too soon when I said it was pretty much back to normal. First I coddled it, then tried reasoning with it, and it still keeps acting up. Now I'm going the 'tough love' route: sending it to bed without dinner the other night, and made it write sentences on the blackboard 50 times, "I will not mess with Phalon anymore."

This prompted me to start drilling. Thanks for the nudge!
And guess what else? I already started in on your favorite holiday. Me? This early?? But I saw a few things at the store that I couldn't resist getting for LX and the Boyfriend for Christmas. Now, if I can only remember where I put them (or that I even got them) by the time Christmas rolls around!

Hubs must be truly patient having put up with the shaking bed and squeaky chalk on the blackboard all night. Especially when he kneeded his sleep too! (Some limbs are notoriously poor spellers and slow writers ya know.) Welcome! But after all, we all look forward to your forays into Halloween Town The world as I used to know it has been irrevocably and permanently changed. You used the "C" word before October!

I know, right?! But "before October"? I'd never muddy up my favorite month containing my favorite holiday by leaping ahead to another holiday. Shoot, even November is early. WTF is happening?

Finally got myself a new laptop. It's quite a nice little thing. They are so much thinner than they used to be, and no noisy hard drive or fan when it gets clogged with dust. Also, my new workshop arrived yesterday on the back of a truck. Carrying all the sections around the back of the house certainly makes you feel your age (thank god for inventing sons-in-law). Now the real hard work begins, assembling it. Vox has kindly given me permission to fill it up

Congrats on the new laptop, Moonglum! And the workshop! I'm jealous of that one - I've been wanting to turn one of the girls' bedrooms into a craft room, but they've still got so much of their own stuff in there that there's no room. I keep prodding them to take it, or let me get rid of it, but there it all still is, collecting dust.

MG: Congratulations on the laptop and workshop. My first thought was a writing workshop. Ha. Several writers have an office in an outbuilding, and highly recommend it. Claiming it helps when having a space set aside just for writing. But, then I figured your workshop probably isn’t for writing.
I hope you and Vox are well.

You are right Jox, it's not for writing, although that would be nice. No, it's laughingly regarded as a 'Hobby Room'. Being an engineer all my working life and a lover of steam engines, well all things train-related, I enjoy model engineering as a hobby. I've out-grown my garden shed so much so that I can barely get in the door. So We've gone bigger! Vox and I are well thank you, although after a week of construction my back is killing me!

The sad thing about getting older is that the body tends to not want to do as much as you'd like it to do.

It's annoying to me when technology outpaces the usefulness of devices....annoying, and expensive.
T-Mobile bought Sprint a while ago. Our cell phone service provider uses Sprint's towers. T-Mobile is 5G. Hubs and my phones are 3G, which is not compatible with 5G. We've been getting texts for the last month or so, saying we needed to upgrade before January in order for our service to continue.
Granted, our phones are "old" - I got mine about 5 years ago; Hubs' is six-years old. They work perfectly though for what we use them for - the basic stuff like calls, texting, photos, GPS, and internet. Nothing fancy, but we don't need to do a whole lot of fancy stuff.
We decided to just get it over with now, instead of scrambling last minute. Blah.

It's a coincidence that last topic discussed in here was phones, and here I am, half a year later, popping in this thread to discuss phones again. Not cell phones this time, but landlines. Nobody uses our landline, and the only calls we get are sales calls. Finally, made the decision to cancel it....about a month ago.
It took almost a full month to complete the cancellation. I swear, you'd woulda thought I was requesting to pull the life-support plug. It think it's finally done though - hopefully.

My local phone company also does internet and cable TV. The cable TV is somehow connected to my phone line, so I'm still using my landline. Plus, I live out in the boonies, and only get one bar on my cell phone, so the landline is the better option most of the time. I have family and friends that still call me on the landline, so I'll keep it for now. My sister doesn't give out her cell phone to the doctors and such . . . only to family and friends. When I was the one dealing with Mom's doctors and such, I gave them my cell phone because I didn't want to miss their calls. I gave them my sister's cell, but she wouldn't answer, and told me to never give out her number. Just her landline. I don't know why she only gives out her landline, usually when I call her on her landline I get the answering machine. She'll either have the ringer turned off, or have the volume too low to hear.
I got my new cell phone two weeks ago, so I no longer have to worry about updates not working.

Before I cancelled landline service, I thought "Hhmmm, I wonder if I should just double-check with our Internet provider, just to make sure service won't be interrupted." Sure enough, we had a sort of similar thing here, only it was our internet that was somehow connected to the landline - even though the landline and internet provider are two different companies. We've had both services for so long, that the lines were somehow intertwined. The internet provider had to come out, and connect a new Wifi router, and trace the original line to an entire block away! The WiFi is much faster now.
I was hoping, but knew it wouldn't be over. I got a new bill for the landline with a month of past due charges and a month of current charges, and spent close to 45 minutes on the phone (30 of which was on hold) with the phone company. "Ah, yes...I see service was cancelled. You can ignore that bill."
Until I receive the next one.

I got my taxes done last week. Finally. One of my papers was late. It still came in several days before deadline, but by then my accountant had extended my time. I took them my papers the Friday before the last full week, explaining I was still waiting on a tax document. I got that paper in Monday’s mail, and I also got an email copy that same day as well, because I had emailed the company over the weekend.
I called my accountant’s office to see if I could email it to him instead of bringing the mail to him. The secretary gave me his email address, and I told her I just sent it before hanging up. She told me then that I was given an extension. For some strange reason, they extended my sister’s taxes too. We share the farm, and the farm info was completely done. I had said that “I” was waiting on papers, not that “we” were.
Anyways, weeks went by, and my sister called about her taxes. A little while later hers were ready. She owed money, plus interest. And now she has to do her taxes every few months as punishment for being late. I called in some time after she did, and I was told they were still waiting on my papers. I said I had emailed them. She went and looked, and said they had them, and my taxes would be ready the next afternoon. Yeah. No, they weren’t. I got there and he was in a meeting, and the secretary couldn’t find my taxes. They called me the next week that my taxes were ready. I didn’t owe, so I’m not being punished. I told my sister that next year, if mine wasn’t ready, she should take hers in without mine. Then, I could take mine in later, finished nor not, and she wouldn’t get caught up in my extension.
My information is on the dark web. I got an email several years ago, letting me know. It was the bank, or a credit card, I believe, that got hacked. There was a lawsuit, and I was given a choice of payment, or a security firm keeping tabs on my info for ten years on them. I took the security checks. The money wasn’t much, and I figured the security checks would be the best option.
A few weeks ago, I got a letter from my local doctors office’s company. Their website was hacked, and my info was in the stolen data. They offered one year free security checks. And they gave me information on how to protect my security. Something it seems the other security service had already done apparently. Because, anytime I apply for something lately, I have to jump through hoops. I kept wondering why it got so hard all of a sudden, and the doctors office’s steps to securing my info was the lightbulb moment that gave me the answer. So, I now have to prove that I am me. A pain in the butt, but it’s better than having scammers get what’s mine.

Scary stuff once your information gets hacked. I had a co-worker once, who got pulled over for speeding, and discovered she had an arrest warrant for all kinds of fraud - except it wasn't her who committed it; her identity had been stolen, and she didn't know it!

So far, I've not been alerted to anything being done with my information. I don't have any debt, and I have a high FICO score, so I'm guessing that helps? Or I've just been really lucky.
