It was on the 24th of August. Mom went to the clinic, and we, (Mom, sister and I) ate at Cracker Barrel. Mom paid the bill. Mom's birthday was on the 3rd. (September), and we went to the clinic on the 2nd, and my sister paid for the meal. We go back to the clinic on the 24th, (September), and my sister's birthday is on the 27th, so I will pay for the meal.
August 24th is prmystic's birthday too.

Thank you both. It was on Wednesday, the 24th. My sister made me a birthday dinner, with my favorite meal: Roast & Potatoes with gravy ... and an Earthquake Cake. My favorite cake is German Chocolate, unfortunately I'm pretty much the only one who likes it. However, Earthquake Cake is also known as Upside Down German Chocolate Cake. And the family likes that one much better.
I had bought a "Born Blonde" hair color kit a few months ago, and finally got around to using it. Showed up at my sister's and shocked everyone. Got rid of that 'dirty dishwater' blonde. On Thursday, the week before, 18th, I went car shopping. Saturday, 20th, I signed the paperwork. Monday, 22th, I gave the dealership a check and brought my car home. It was just a coincidence, and I hadn't realized until my birthday, but I now call it my birthday gift to me.
I got a: 2016 Honda Fit ... Passion Berry Pearl ... looks just like this one:

Sounds like a good birthday, Joxie the Born Blonde!
Mom made German chocolate cake often; it was Dad's favorite. I loved the taste, but couldn't get past the texture of the coconut in the icing.
And congrats on your new car! Pretty, pretty! I must be trippin' though, because for some reason, I thought you didn't drive.

I don't drive off of this road I live on. Mom's house, and my Church, are both on my road. I drive to them. I don't get out on the highway. Driving on the highway has always made me super nervous due to being small & blind in my right eye.
I got talked into getting my license in case of emergencies. I didn't get them until I was around 21 or so. Then I was expected to drive, should have seen that coming, which wasn't so bad with the small Chevy Chevette they had at the time. Still, it was very nerve-wracking for me. Then they sold it and never bought a small car again, and that was my excuse to not drive anymore. (Big cars make me far more nervous than a small car.)
My sister said she wasn't going to spoil me like Mom did, and I didn't want to keep asking my Mom's elderly friends to drive me around, so I decided if I had to drive on the highway I'd best get a small car that I felt most comfortable with, instead of the big hand-me-down ones I'd had over the years to drive up and down my road. So, gotta bite the bullet and get over my fear of the highway. Wish me luck. My stomach is churning just thinking about getting out on the highway. (It's just in my small county. My sister will drive me to the city to shop. Very thankful for that.)
I've got my sister, and Mom's friends, who will help me practice drive on the highway, until I feel I can do it alone. Plus, my new car has a camera in the rear, and on the right side mirror, which will help me greatly. I hope. My greatest fear is that I will accidentally kill someone. (I'd gladly drive on an empty highway, no other cars, pedestrians around. Empty parking lots, etc.) I hated it when someone was behind me. I'd slow down so they would pass me.
I don't have good night vision either. Which was the reason I never wanted to get my license in the first place when I was 16. I was around 14 and I drove Mom's car after Church one evening. I dropped off some friends who lived on my road, past my house, and another friend's house, and on my way back to my house, Mom yelled for me to, "STOP!" I hadn't seen two friends from the house I passed earlier running out into the road at my car, waving their hands. They just got back from a trip and were flagging me down to say they were home. Well, that scared me so bad ... that I might have run over them, if not for Mom, that I decided I shouldn't be driving.
And now I'm gonna have to.

Please explain to Phalon that this is perfectly acceptable as a meal – an excellent choice - especially since it excludes kale.
Steppet is a dishwater blonde, or was. The sun would naturally lighten her hair to the extent that she didn't need any help getting it any more blonde.
The friend who donated her kidney is also a natural blonde but she colors it so she's corn silk blonde - it looks really nice on her.
Know what might help you with all the problems you mentioned? Don't get a wimpy little car, get a fricking tank. "They" will see you and they'll definitely get out of your way. If they're dodging you, you've got the system beat! Or track down the Butterscotch B!tch. Pretty much the same thing the way she described it. And it will have the advantage that a few dents won't matter.

Never thought of getting a tank. Brilliant idea. Sadly, I just bought my wee baby.
My plan is to drive on less traveled back roads. Which won't help me once I'm in town.
And I got papers in the mail today telling me I'm on jury duty. Will get more info in November. Guess I best get some practice in soon.

Good to know I haven't lost my memory....completely.
No need to explain. I am not the one with the palate so limited that I refuse to try new things. I also love meat and potatoes.
Pretty much the same, except that I have light to medium brown hair. The the sun has always lightened it to the extent that it's streaked blonde enough that "Goldilocks" is a nickname I've heard throughout my life. There are some streaks so light they're platinum. People always think I "pay to have it done", because it pretty much goes back to brown in the winter.
Which is exactly how I ended up with it. When I was in Germany, I had enough saved to buy a used car - I had picked out a cute little Chevy Chevette when I was home on leave. Since it was used, Dad wanted to look at it before I bought it, but didn't have time before my leave ended; I transferred the money, and if everything checked out with the car, he'd get it, or something comparable in price, so I'd have it when my tour of duty in Germany ended a couple of months later. I get home...and there it was - the Butterscotch B!tch. Dad's theory was the more metal surrounding his daughter on the road, the safer she'd be.
Has nothing to do with Dad's theory, but although I'm short, I do prefer a bigger car over a compact. The smallest car I've owned was Itty Bitty Car - which really wasn't that itty-bitty; it was a four door Grand Am.
Pardon me for saying so, Joxie, but it might be time to let go of that traumatic experience that happened when you were fourteen. There's a reason 14-year olds can't legally drive - they're not aware enough of their surroundings to be considered safe behind the wheel.

I don't entirely refuse to try new things. It's just that I know my palate well enough to know that certain things will offend it, and neither it nor I would like that. For instance, BBQ ribs with post oak verses hickory verses mesquite; all impart a different flavor. Besides, you like meat and potatoes but love it when it comes with and...stuff. You are constitutionally incapable of leaving well enough alone. You'd only be happy if the potatoes were served with some form of cheeses and garden veggies on a bed of kale.
Alas, this is also true of Steppet. Her hair gets darker quickly too. It's always struck me as odd that she didn't seem to have multiple colors as if she'd had a dye job and it was growing out so there's a markedly different shade with sort of a dividing line. It doesn't work that way though - it's like the lighter hair fades.
That doesn't happen for or to Steppet. I've seen some people that had it done intentionally though and on most of them it was a good look. The worst of them still looked at least okay - but I've like the highlights. I'm not a fan of spikes or Harley Quinn type colors - I'm a bit too traditional I guess.
I've heard this theory before. As I recall it usually included a story proving it true.

Yeah. Sister seems to feel the same way about it. She has been patient enough for me to get a small car that I'm more comfortable with. My first choice was a Smart Fortwo. I was sure I'd definitely get on the highway with that one. But I had fallen in love with the Fit's back seat, backup camera and right side camera, and decided the Smart was too small should I need to get some groceries at a local store should my sister not be able to take me to the city due to unforeseen events.
My Mom's friends took me car shopping, and they didn't like how small the car was, so they may have influenced me against it. Plus, the closest dealerships are over 140 miles away, and I wasn't sure there was any place nearby that could service a Smart car, and didn't want to have to have my b-i-l drive it that far to have checked out or worked on.
Here's what I love about the Fit:
I keep my magic backseats up so that my Mom's dog has the whole floorboard to herself. It keeps her off of the them, so I won't have to worry if I have someone riding in the back. I need to get a divider that blocks her from getting in the front seats though. Right now I keep the console lid open as a shield. (If I don't let her ride when I go to Mom's house to feed the cats, she'll jump up on the doors and scratch them. She'll also jump in the windows if I have them down to get inside the car. I guess I'll need to get in the habit of making her stay in the house when it's muddy out, so she doesn't make even more of a mess in the car.)

Well, you're old enough to make your own decisions no matter what I say, so as long as you are happy with your choice of vehicle, that's good enough.

Yes. It's called a well-balanced meal. The best part is that it tastes good.
A sort of dividing line? Oh - you mean like when dyed hair starts to grow out, and the roots show? Yeah, you're right. I never thought about it before, but it is odd that sun-bleached hair doesn't do that. How does the color come back when it's been bleached out? You'd think it would have come back as new hair grows. I never paid attention to if it does or not - maybe I'll have to do a little experiment with pictures throughout the winter to see. It'd be weird to think I've been walking around all these years with my "roots showing", and not noticing because I've never dyed my hair.
Who knows, Joxie...maybe once you get comfortable, you'll love highway driving. Nothing quite like barrelling down the highway with the windows down, and your favorite songs blaring from the stereo.....and no one in the car with you to hear to wail along out of tune.

I knew this, but thanks for the confirmation.
Actually, I wouldn't mind the cheeses, depending on what types of cheese of course, but after that, the garden veggies should be a normal garden salad with Catalina dressing and the kale belongs in the garbage where it can kill off the maggots. We aren't going to agree on this - you like to experiment and when it comes to food, I don't have an appetite for strange, unusual, or experiments.
I didn't explain it as well as you did, but that's exactly it! It's never worked that way for Steppet though.
Funny story - Steppet hasn't ever colored her hair either. For several years she worked in the base personnel office, then I was transferred there to run their computers. I hadn't been there very long when it was time for the Halloween party. I went as a referee, Steppet went as a Dallas Cowboy Cheerleader and for part of her outfit/disguise she wore a silver wig. We were attracting more attention than I thought was normal, but the Cheerleader sitting next to me was worth a double check. Finally a small contingent of people started in our direction when suddenly a couple of them burst out laughing. The crowd broke up but a couple more continued over including the highest ranking enlisted person in the office complex. Turns out that until they got much closer none of them recognized Steppet with the wig on, and the outfit was rather daring compared to her normal attire - (they'd never really been exposed to her physique) - so they thought I was being indiscreet and intended to publicly tell me about it. Physically she could have been a real cheerleader, but the thing I liked was that they thought so highly of her that they were not going to let me get away with any nonsense. That's the kind of friends I like for her to have in her life.
* * *
In my case that would be considered a mercy for the general public. You'll notice that I'm not noted for my singing career.

That is funny. Steppet was probably just as glad to have such friends as well.
I truly hope so. Just thinking about getting out on the highway has set off massive hot flashes. I know, it's all in my head, but I can't seem to get it out. My sister suggests I use cruise control to keep from naturally slowing down when I see a car/s behind me. I practiced with it a little today as I drove home from feeding Mom's cats. I'll get it set to 55, and keep it there to use as needed.
I'm wondering if I should just bite the bullet and do it all on my own, without saying anything to anyone, or have someone in the car with me. Mom's friends said they'd follow me while I drove ... uh, yeah, I think I'd rather follow than be followed.

BTW: I know of others who didn't drive/have their license until they were older.
A friend of my Mom's didn't get her license and drive until several years after her kids moved out on their own. Got her first job, that I know of, or first one since she had her kids.
I had a co-worker who didn't drive until she was in her late 30s/early 40s. She got tired of waiting on someone to drive her three/four hours to visit family, so she just upped and bought a car and just took off. Did it on her own without telling anyone. Floored them. She tried her best to talk me into just 'doing it.'
Guess it's my turn to add myself to that equation.

Go with whatever makes you more comfortable...or less nervous. If you're more comfortable with someone in the car, go that route, but if you think having someone 'look over your shoulder' might make you more nervous, go it alone.
Maybe even look into adult driving classes and check if they'd do some refresher training for highway driving.

I hadn't thought of that, but it's a good idea. AARP and others have several self improvement/keep learning classes - maybe one of those would be not so expensive or free? You know, some of those classes also qualify for vehicle insurance discounts - they'll save you $$ for at least three years.
I say if you want to get comfortable driving, do it often. You don't have to hit the highway every time, but get out and do it. Eventually you'll build up immunity to the fear - you'll become numb to it.

The local high school doesn't have Driver's Ed., so I've never really had any 'real' lessons. If you want to go by that stamp of approval type thing. So, I've never even given lessons a thought.
