I spent a lot of time alone in Mom's house, but don't remember ever being creeped out while I was there. I talked to her a lot though, while I was really me just talking to myself, which is a habit of mine anyway.
I thought a lot about her yesterday - it was her birthday; she would have been 90.
I think what kids are told depends on their level of maturity and temperament. Bringing up that someone died in a house, or in a certain room in a house, depending on the child, can start an imagination running wild. Even telling them that someone who has died would never bother them, might do the same.
My boss told me the other day that the property on which the haunted barn where I had a freaky experience (it was the most afraid I'd ever been, and I didn't even know that barn was haunted at the time) had sold recently. The new owners are gutting the house; I drove by there the other day; the entire front half of the house is covered in tarps, and there are two big crane-like tractor things raised up to the second floor. Apparently, according to whoever my boss talked to about it, said that there have been some strange instances at the construction site - things missing, moved, or destroyed without explanation. Don't know if the new owners know about the barn - there was at least one killing in the barn, and a number of suicides afterward - but I can imagine if they did, they might attribute it to what happened in the barn.
I probably would.

I talk to myself too. I wonder why that is? Sometimes I've even answered myself.

People talk to themselves for lots of reasons - to remember stuff, to work through problems...hhmmm, because they like the sound of their own voice, maybe. I read once that creative people tend to talk to themselves more often than not.
It's kind of funny sometimes in the office at work. I talk to myself, the landscape designer talks to herself, and so does the boss lady. There are times when there's a general buzz of conversation in the room - three different conversations happening at once, and no one is talking to anyone in particular!

Cool! I'm a creative person. Must be nice to work with others who don't think you're crazy.

HA! I never said any of us didn't think the other two weren't crazy! Have you ever figured out your "Life Path Number" using numerology and your birth date? My brother's girlfriend is all into this - too much into it, in my opinion. Like astrology, I don't put a lot of stock into it, but it's kind of fun to figure out. All you do is add up the digits of your birth date. "For example, if you were born on October 12, 1936, you would calculate your Life Path as follows: Month: October is the 10th month of the year. 10 reduces to 1 (1 + 0 = 1). Day: The date of birth is 12. 12 reduces to 3 (1 + 2 = 3). Year: The year of birth is 1936. 1936 reduces to 1 (1 + 9 + 3 + 6 = 19, then 1 + 9 = 10 and finally 1 + 0 = 1). Now add the resulting single-digit numbers: 1 + 3 + 1 = 5. The Life Path number in this case is 5." Once you figure out your number, here's what each of them means: www.gaia.com/article/life-path-number-report

Never heard of it. I like to read my horoscope every now and again, but I don't put much stock in it. It's fun to dabble with sometimes.
08 = 8 24 = 6 1958 = 23 = 5 865 = 19 = 10 = 1

I agree.
So, do you see yourself in your "Life Path number"? I'm a 9 - large parts of the description fit my personality and viewpoints; other characteristics I wouldn't use to describe myself at all. Same with my zodiac sign - Virgo. Then again, can anyone really have an objective view of themselves? Personally, I feel that anyone can randomly choose a zodiac sign or Life Path number, and find characteristics of themselves in the description.
Weirdly coincidental though - people, including myself, have always said how much LX and BP are alike. Although they don't share the same zodiac sign, both their birth dates add up to the same Life Path number.

I can see myself in parts of all 12 zodiac signs. I didn't read all of the life path numbers, but I gleaned a few of them, and I could see parts of me in them as well.

Did you know that mangoes and poison ivy belong to the same plant family? The skin of mangoes and the poison ivy plants contain the same chemical - urushiol - that causes the rash and itch. In mangoes though, the urushiol is only released when the skin of the fruit is broken.

I've seen the 'movement' to use glass/metal straws. What about the hard plastic ones that are reusable? I have glasses that use plastic 'permanent' straws, not throwaways.
IIRC, one of the main reasons for straws is to prevent getting sick at both ends because bottles and restaurant glasses aren't germ free. Is that a myth ... like 'do not sit on the toilet seat?'

I don't think it's a myth that you can get sick from drinking from a glass at a restaurant - it'd depend on how diligent they are about washing. <shrugs> Can't drink coffee, tea, beer, or wine from a straw, so it's not like all restaurant patrons use straws.

I'm guessing you mean hot tea, and not iced tea? I've drank iced tea with a straw before. Speaking of hot tea ... I'll have to tell it another time, dog goes to the vet in the morning, I best get in the shower and to bed. Night.

HA! I guess I forgot for a minute you are in the South, where iced tea is a staple. Yes, I meant hot tea.
Story, please.
Are you nocturnal, Joxie?! Your post has a time of 3:43am, which I'm assuming is my time, but even though your time is an hour behind, that's very late to be showering before going to bed!
I can believe that article - that everyone has a kind of chemical aura surrounding them.
Kinda interesting...
I wonder if that's why mosquitoes don't bother some people as much as others. If I'm around Hubs, for example, the mosquitoes will bite him, and pretty much leave me alone. HA! I should take him to work with me, and have him follow me around all day - the mosquitoes have been horrendous this past week!

My tea story: Well, I don't like to drink tea unless there's ice it in, even if it came out of the refrigerator and is already cold. The thought of drinking hot tea just grosses me out. But a few weeks ago, when my young friend came to stay with me, I made up a gallon of tea. I had to open a new box, and it had a sample tea bag for Chai Tea, or something like that. My friend drinks coffee every morning, and I thought why not boil some water and let her see if she likes this tea enough to switch up once in a while.
So I put the tea bag in a coffee mug, poured in boiling water, added sugar, let it sit for a wee bit, and then we each took a spoon and tried it. We both liked it, but it wasn't something we'd buy and drink often. I remembered that some people add milk to their tea, so I poured some in, and we both took another taste, and it wasn't bad either. I let her drink as much as she wanted, and I decided that hot tea wasn't so gross after all. I think I may check out the various flavors and get a small box. I don't drink coffee, but maybe I'll drink hot tea.
I'm totally shocked that I'd ever think that hot tea was actually a good thing.
My sleep story: Yes, I'm a night person. I think it has to do with it being dark outside. If I'm awake, I'll know if someone is breaking into the house. It's weird how once I see the sun, I feel like I can go to bed now. I really need to break that habit.
Personal Dust Cloud: I wonder if that's why some people catch illnesses easier than others? I can go all Winter without getting a cold. I learned that I catch a cold through my feet. If I step outside barefoot in the Autumn/Winter, I always come down with a cold. A friend at Church can't go to bed with a wet head, because she gets a cold every time. I go to bed with a wet head all the time without any ill effect.

I'm a coffee drinker most definitely, but every once in a while, I'll have a cup of tea, most always it's when I've got a cold, and drinking something hot helps loosen the congestion. If I've got a cold, I'll still drink coffee in the morning, but have green tea later in the day or at night because it has less caffeine than coffee. Sometimes BP drinks chamomile tea before bed; it's supposed to be relaxing and help promote sleep - I've had that too when I'm sick. Basically, whatever kind of tea BP has in the house, is what I'll drink - I've never bought tea for myself; I think it all tastes like dirt!
Are there a lot of break-ins in your area that keep you worried your house will be targeted?
Apparently, things like that don't worry me, based on what happened yesterday morning. It was funny, actually. Still dark, I was out on the back porch at 5:30 in the morning, drinking my coffee - like I do every morning. I heard what sounded like the side door to the garage close. Peeking around the corner of the house, I saw the garage light was on. Weird, especially because it was Saturday, and no one had to be up for work or school but me. Somewhat concerned, I came inside the house - I needed another cup of coffee anyway - and went through the kitchen, into the mud room to make sure that door, which is on the garage side of the house, was locked. It wasn't, so I locked it. Went back into the kitchen, poured myself some coffee, fed the dog, and went to the bathroom - all the while, leaving the back door wide open. While I was in the bathroom, I heard someone walking around the kitchen, and came out finding the Boyfriend pouring himself a cup of coffee. "Oh!" I said, a bit startled, "Good morning." He'd gone out to the garage to get something, and when he found the mudroom door locked, walked around to the back door and came in through there.
He was flabbergasted that I thought some stranger might be in the garage, but not wake someone else up to let them know - and that I'd lock the mudroom door, but leave the back door wide open. Eh. Shrugs. I wasn't that concerned.
Of course, (eye-roll) that's the kind of stuff that gets people killed in horror movies.

Who knows why the dark bothers me. Perhaps it stems from something from my childhood. Maybe it's the same reason why I have to have the covers up over my neck. Someone told me about Vampires when I was 6-years-old. Or maybe it has to do with my eyes. I only see out of my left eye, and the muscles in my eyes fight each other, jerking my eyes back and forth in a constant tug-of-war. Mom told me she could tell when I was tired, because the jerking motion got worse. And I have to 'look down my nose' to keep the jerking as slight as possible. If I try and look straight ahead, like normal, everything I see jerks ever so slightly back and forth. The further to the left I look, (without moving my head), the faster the jerking, and everything jerks back and forth too fast to focus on.
Maybe it's that the pupils don't open up like they're supposed to. People who have gone on tours inside of caves have told me how dark it is when they turn off the lights. That when they wave their hands in front of their faces, they see only black. No shapes/shadows, no movements. They tell me you can only experience this deep inside of a cave. I do that above ground. On moonless nights ... on cloudy moonless nights. I remember waking up one night, and seeing this glow out of the corner of my eye, but pitch black when I looked straight at it. I would wave my hand in front of my face, and see nothing. No shape or motion. But when I turned my head to look away, the glow would be there. I opened the curtains, and looked outside ... there was a soft glow from a crescent moon.
Years ago, before getting glasses, I hated being late to the movie theater. I couldn't see a thing once the lights were turned off, and nothing was showing on the screen. It would be pitch black, and I would have to grab hold of whoever was in front of me so that they could guide me to where we were going to sit. I would wave my hand in front of my face and see nothing. No shape or motion. The first time we were late after getting my glasses, I instinctively reached out and grabbed hold of my sister's shoulder. I looked down and saw all these tiny lights. I was thrilled they had put in nightlights. I pointed them out to those in my group. And then it hit me. These lights have always been here. People have seen me reach out and grab the person in front of me. People have seen me wave my hand in front of my face. People had thought I was high as a kite. Me ... who has never used illegal drugs. Me ... who has never abused legal drugs.
It could be a combination of my eyes, and my childhood fears. Because we don't have that many break-ins in my neck of the woods ... plus, I'm back behind my sisters house, and there's only one driveway to get back here. My BIL is always telling me that no one is going to take a chance coming back here to rob my house. There's no escape route. So, it could also be that I can't see what is making a noise I hear if it's coming from outside of my porch and 'street' light ranges. And the nights are so much longer in the Autumn/Winter months.
And, maybe now that I've talked about it ... gotten it off my chest ... I can let it go. Because one of Dad's quotes he used to use is: "There's nothing in the dark that isn't in the light." Yeah ... until there IS!

I worked on that post once and somehow the page backed up and I had to start all over again. So, I went into my profile to try something I had seen there, to see how well it works and if I like it enough to keep.
Go into your profile. Click on: Edit Profile. Click on: Settings. Scroll down until you see:
Enable Drafts Saves your posts periodically during creation. [X]Yes [_]No
Scroll down and click on: Save Account Settings.
I experimented with it, and when I went to reply again, I was shown the draft of the post I had been working on, and it asked if I wanted to have it applied to my reply box. I told it yes, and I didn't have to rewrite anything. Cool.

I don't think that would have been something to fret over. The lights illuminate the aisle; they aren't bright enough to light up the faces of people walking down the aisle. Also, it takes anyone coming from a bright lobby into a darkened theater a few minutes for their eyes to adjust to the darkness.
I wonder if keeping a light on in the hall or bathroom during the night would help - something that lights up your room just enough so that it isn't completely dark.
Get out!!!! I can't count how many times I've written a post, and then done something to delete what I've written before I've hit the post button.

Me too ... I hate that 'attachment' page I get rerouted to whenever I go to copy and paste some text. Drives me crazy. I don't know if it can be turned off or not. Several members have used it though, so I'm afraid to lose what they've uploaded if I should be able to turn it off.
I've noticed that in my Setting for a long time now, but just never thought to try it out. Better late than never though.
Dark: I never noticed the others having a hard time finding our seats, so assumed I was the only one having problems with 'night' blindness.
I have nightlights in every room of the house but the bedroom. Some rooms have two or three nightlights. Every room of the house, and the garage, has a power failure flashlight too. When the power goes off, I'm not left in the dark. I bought a charging outlet that I hang over the head of my bed to charge my cell phone. It has lights over several of the plug holes. They're green when nothing is plugged in, then green when the phone is fully charged, and red when the phone is charging. It is bright. If I ever figure out another place for it, I'll move it to have my bedroom in darkness once again.

That happens to me too, and though I don't use it, it doesn't bother me....except for that short period of time when there wasn't any way to "X" out of it, and I'd lose whatever text I was trying to post. If only I'd have known then about that 'save' option you just found!
Do you sleep with your phone in the bed? Maybe that's why that health app is not properly calculating the amount of sleep you're getting each night.
Oops. Just checked the kitchen sink thread where you posted about the health app, and you mentioned there already that the phone is in your bed at night. Put it on the nightstand instead? Maybe that would solve both the issue of the health app, and seeing the lights on the charging station?

I keep the phone on the nightstand, but the power surge outlet box I bought to plug it into hangs over the headboard. I suppose if I have a restless sleep my movements could jiggle the cord.
The only way for me to get out of the huge attachment page is to go back to the previous page ... a now empty reply box. But now I have the save option turned on.

Move the charging unit to a different room, and charge your phone before going to bed? You're only supposed to have a cell charging until it's fully charged anyway; "over-charging" drains the battery life. It only takes like what? - a half hour to fully recharge a phone? I'd think leaving it plugged into a charger all night would damage the battery.
I just enabled it.....because you know me; it'd be something I'd be meaning to get to, but never get around to actually doing it.

Did you know that 99.9 percent of calico cats are female?
I didn't until one day rainy day last week when a little calico kitten showed up at the nursery and started following us around, right on our heels. My co-worker kept calling it little girl, and I asked how he knew it was female.
from Wikipedia: Calico cats are almost always female because the X chromosome determines the color of the cat, and female cats—much like all female mammals—have two X chromosomes, whereas male mammals, including common male cats, have one X and one Y chromosome. Since the Y chromosome does not have any color genes, there is no chance he could have both orange and non-orange together. One main exception to this is when, in rare cases, a male has XXY chromosomes.
Uhm...yep.

My dad told me when I was preteen that if I ever found a male calico among our cats to let him know, it would be worth big bucks. I don’t recall ever hearing of anyone finding a male calico, I never thought to do a search on the subject since getting online. I’ll have to do that later. I have to go pick up my weekend company soon.

I did a drill and found that 1 in every 3000 calicos born are male.
Most all the sites I checked said that male calicos aren't monetarily worth any more than any other cat would be worth because they're sterile. The only time they fetch a high price is if they are purebred and then they are worth whatever that breed of cat is worth. Calico isn't a breed; it's a coloration.
Hhhhmmmm...it's going to be interesting at work today. The bosses have been out of town for over a week, and though they know we found the cat (I posted in on the nursery's Facebook page, asking if anyone would give it a good home), they don't know we've been keeping it inside the store - they are not cat people. It's been inside since it came out of the rain last week, and we've been working on socializing it for its new owner; a woman contacted me via Facebook saying she'd take it. With her work schedule she can't pick it up until Monday or Tuesday.
I wonder if we can keep it hidden from the bosses until then!
