This ep should DEFINITELY shut the children up as it finally depicts what so many people have wanted to see…a family where BOTH parents work! So, we now have a black family, a single Mom (the Dad’s in Iraq…does that count?) now we have a family where both parents work. So, Nanny 911, you have some catching up to do!
Now, on to the show…the family today is the Amaral’s, Mike and Loranne. They co-own a family restaurant. They have 3 kids, all boys. Ryan, 9, Logan, 4, and Kade, 2. The parents are total workaholics and barely have time to spend with their kids. Apparently they never thought to hire a baby sitter or something cause the boys are taken INTO the restaurant and allowed to run free. I guess they figure , they got people working in the restaurant, they can save time and money by having THEM baby sit the kids. Especially litle Kade, who gets ionto EVERYTHING and can’t sit still! He’s handed off from one employee to another.
The restaurant is obviously successful cause the people are so so busy they forget the simplest things like PUT AWAY THE KNIVES (which Jo is appalled to see!). And half the time the parents don’t even know where their kids are!
Well, Jo shows to right at the door of the reastaurant. I’m wondering why more of the diners didn’t seem to recongize her. I mean, if THE Supernanny came into a restaurant where I was at..I’d be falling all over myself trying to meet her…at least get an autograph..or try to snap a quick picture! I’d be crying, ‘Oh my God, it’s the Supernanny!’ the MINUTE she came in the door! Jo admits this is a first for her. Their partner Chris recognizes her quickly.
The first thing Jo notices is that 2 year old Kade is in the restaurant while his brothers are at school, and his parents are so busy they don’t give him anything to occupy himself with. So he has to entertain himself by running around the restaurant. Mom tried to chase him and serve the customers at the same time. Soon it’s time to pick u the other two from school, but Dad’s bust slicing meat, so she gives Kade to Chris. Jo can’t believe that the bartender gets the baby sitting duties . Kade gets passed from one waitress to another when their arms get tired. He even gets given to one of the regular customers! (Hot potato, keep away!)
Wen the other two boys get back, they introduce themselves to Jo, then pandemonium breaks loose! They take off like shots, running off all over the place! Mike admits they have no time to spend time with the boys. He says this while he’s chopping onions, serving the customers and having no clue where his kids are. Jo says that they’re bored cause they have no sitmulation at all. The parents are obviously trying to do too much at the same time! When we first saw Loranne she had a huge smile on her face, which Jo immediately recognized as fake! Finally Lorranne can’t take the pressure anymore and finally cracks.
Later that day,the kids are being regressive, throwing things, crashing tings, but Dad ignores it. Loranne had to be the disciplinarian. But her discipline involves all talk and no action. Later Loranne tells Ryan to start on his homework, but then just leaves him to do something else. Of COURSE, the minute she leaves Ryan gets up and starts walking around, grabbing snacks, etc.
After they go home, it only gets worse. Loranne goes BACK to the restaurant and leaves the boys with her Mom. The boys only get worse now that they only have Grandma there. Finally it gets so late that Jo can no longer wit for the parents to come home, so she sees herself out. The nexy day she arrives at the restaurant super early before they open the doors so she can have the meeting with the parents. The compliments the restaurant and the boys, but points out the obvious. They work so hard, it seems like they’ve forgotten the even have kids! They use the restaurant as a playground because they don’t have anything else to occupy their time., and the staff has to baby sit the kids! They’re not spending enough time with the kids. Loranne once again cracks and says she’s ashamed of what she’s been doing. Jo assures her she doesn’t have to be supermom.
TIP FROM SUPERNANNY
When you come to restaurant with kids, be sure to bring crayons and coloring boos so they have things to occupy their time while waiting for dinner.
When Jo comes in the next day, the brings her famous routine. The kids think it’s ‘cool’. The schedule involves the parents dividing their time between the reastaurant. From 3-4, Dad will take the kids and spend time with them while Mom is in the reastaurant. Mom should do homework WITH Ryan and supervise the younger boys play.
She sits down with the partners so they can discuss the schedule. They make up new rules about the boys in the restaurant. The staff is no longer responsible for the kids, the kids won’t run around the restaurant anymore, no more behind the bars for the boys. After they also show the new rules to the employees, Jo goes to the boys and shows them how the look whe they run around the restaurant. (she actually goes skipping around and singing ‘La,la,la’. bet ya won’t see that on Nanny 911!) , making the boys laugh. She then shows them how to walk properly. They catch on fast. Chris is so impressed she starts crying!
The staff sets up red tape to block off the kitchen, telling the boys they’re going into time out if they cross the lines.
When they go home, Jo suggests Mike spend time with his boys by setting up the ‘Big Chef Technique’ where Mike cooks with his boys. (Mike says the technique was made up for him). Logan loves cooking and Logan makes up the menu. Mike definitely bonded with his kids there. Ryan says that he feels special helping his Dad. (oh that’s nice, you cook a nice meal and you don’t invite your guest to join you? Nicve manners there!)
It’s time for Ryan to do his homework. Jo tells Loranne to set the younger boys up with activities of their own and then help Ryan with his homework. When his brothers start to get rowdy and cause Ryan to loose his concentration, Jo then tells Ryan to move to a quieter room.
The next day.
It’s Mike’s time with the boys and Jo gives them baseball equipment and they all go out and play some baseball, even Jo. But halfway through the game Logan runs off and Mike has to catch him. When they go back to the reasturant, Logan steps over the red tape and goes into time out.
When they go home, Jo fills up water balloons and makes up a new game for the arents and boys. Soon everyone is soaked and running around on the grass, even JO! Ok, betcha you’d never see Nanny 911 doing that! NEVER have I seen Stella actually run around and get all wet and muddy on the lawn!
At the end of the day, it’s time for te dry run. Jo leaves the boys and goes off to observe how well they do. (place your bets how long they can follow the rules)
TIP FROM SUPERNANNY
When you cook and there are children in the house, make sure it’s safe. Put away all sharp objects. And if there’s a pot cooking on the stove, make sure the handle is turned inward.
Jo is Gone. Let’s see how far they go…
Ryan is doing his homework with Mom’s help All good so far..until Logan starts to act up and make loud noises. But instead of moving Ryan to another room or giving Logan something to quiet him down, all she does is scold Logan, ad thraten to send him to time out (but not doing it, of course).
During the ‘Mom and Kade’ time, Loranne has to take a call, and leave Kade, who proceeds to run around the reastaurant unsupervised.
During Mike’s time with the boys, they try to play baseball again, but the boys get into a fight and Mike gives up and they all go inside. Loranne tells Mike he shouldn’t have given up and to take the boys home. During the car ride home, the boys get bored and get into a huge fight which of course Mike can’t break up.
That’s enough for Jo, who comes right back with her DVD. Patiently she explains what they’ve done wrong., Loranne should have Ryan go into another room to do his homework, forgetting the routine, Mike giving up early and taking the boys inside early…Mike says that when he saw himself on the DVD, he realized just what he did wrong.
Later that day, Jo goes over the schedule again with Loranne and sets up a game for her to play with Kade. Loranne gets a fax, but with Jo’s encouragement is able to fax the page and keep an eye on Kade.
For Logan, who doesn’t like to take turns, Jo established the Play-By-The-Rules technique., in which te rules of the game is explained with emphasis on taking turns. After the child gets his turns, he is stopped from taking an extra turn. If they start to fight, Mike must immediately stop it and explain that no one gets an extra turn. After a while Mike can tell the problem is gonna happen from way off and can nip it in the bud quickly.
Soon it’s time to take the boys home. Jo rides with him this time in the car to teach him how to prevent the boys from fighting. All parents who have to go on long car rides with their kids grab a pen and take notes. The trick is to keep the boys engaged in conversation. Distract them if you will so that they’re not tempted to fight. So simple and so easy. So how come no one even thought of this before J ?
Finally Jo has to leave. There are lots of hugs before she steps into the limo. Loranne says how she’ll miss Jo.
Family Update
Things are getting a lot better. Mike and Loranne spend more quality time with their kids. Chris is grateful she’s no longer a baby sitter as well as a partner. The boys are calmer now. Loranne feels like a better Mom now. She says she wants to tell working Moms everywhere to keep a balance. Mike says he now knows what’s important and family comes first. Ryan says Jo’s been good for their family cause now he spends more time with his family. They’ve all leaned time is precious.
End Outtakes.
Jo is looking for Logan. Kade pushes open a door..to the bathroom…which was left unlocked...and Logan is in there...on the toilet. Jo quickly shuts the door and looks away embarrassed.
Jo is trying to say the name of the family correctly…but finds it’s not easy when you have a thick Cockney accent.
Oh, BTW, last week's ep also got mentioned on Best Week Ever! True! Showed the clip of Megan hitting her!
