I didn't like Ally's replacement much either... but if they had kept the character and changed actresses it might have had a better chance. Catching Jack is truly what ended the show. IMHO
Yeah, he was a great ongoing character, something that doesn't happen often enough in episodic shows, and certainly kept you on your toes trying to guess his identity, and where and when he'd strike next. Liked the sub-plot of introducing Jill of All Trades into it as well.

Yeah... the Jack & Jill were great. And keeping the same character but using a different actress might have kept the show going longer. On the soaps it always took a while to start to like the replacement actor/actress, but very seldom did I not warm up to one eventually. And it is the character, and not just the actor/actress, that draws you in... IMHO Once both Ally and Linda left the shows, so did their characters... and the stories that went along with them. Keeping the characters and the stories, but changing the actors/actresses might save a lot of shows more so than having to recreate the shows and introducing new characters within the newly recreated shows. But this is all just theory, it's too late to prove it now.

Today was a Sandra Bullock marathon on tv. I loved every second of it. Forces of Nature and Hope Floats. She is certainly a beauty in my book and talented too.

Nice eclectic mix there MG, American Beauty and One Hour Photo being the pick of them. Thought Robin Williams gave his best performance in that one.
Anyway, don't go overdoing it, can't have you getting square eyes on top of your other ailments now can we.

Can think of worse ways to spend my time, watching stacks of movies. Did you ever get round to seeing "The Children's Hour", aka, "The Loudest Whisper", with Audrey Hepburn, Shirley MacLaine and James Garner, that we discussed recently, think you'd like it.

Agree entirely about Scott's direction, he would have to be one of the most visually stylish directors currently working, it's a bit of a pity the material he was given here wasn't as strong as it could have been, and as good as Julianne Moore was, Jodie had made the character of Clarice her own, and Moore was going struggle to overcome that. My favourite of the series? well seeing as how The Silence of the Lambs is one of my three favourite movies of all time, I guess I gotta go with that one. Pretty much flawless I thought, superb atmosphere, spot on performances from all concerned, great score, and possibly most importantly, great direction. In the hands of a less capable director it could have been somewhat of a disaster, but fortunatly Demme understood that what's implied is usually much more effective then what's displayed, and although the film contains some very graphic scenes, on the whole he keeps the viewer at arms length from the horrors of the story. Enjoyed all the others to varying degrees.

LOONEY TUNES--THE MOVIE...brendan frasier, jenna elfman, steve martin, a rabbit, a duck, a rooster, a skunk, etc....ILB was laughing the whole time, so naturally my heart was dancing to see her having so much fun.....ok, i thought it was cute too.... GODS & MONSTERS--ian mckellen brillantly portrays filmmaker james whale (frankenstein, bride of frankenstein, showboat) with brendan frasier giving his best performance ever developing sensitivity to his mentally & physically deteriorating friend...lynn redgrave also adds endearing emotion as mr whale's housekeeper/nurse....i thought it was very well directed by clive barker & i was moved to tears at the end....two thumbs up!! CLEAR & PRESENT DANGER...ILB picked this one because she hadn't seen it....harrison ford...not a fav of mine, but i did see another of his newer releases on cable... ROMEO MUST DIE....tomorrow Agree 100% about Dreamcatcher Mg, I was very tempted to see it at the cinema, but didn't. Stephen King, a good cast, including the excellent Morgan Freeman, and a good director, thought it would have to be fairly good, but after seeing it on tele recently, thought to myself, well there's a few bucks saved. It was a bit of a turkey alright. They were advertising Hellboy on Foxtel as being on soon, saw you mention it over at Favourite movies, so i'll keep an eye open for it. Oh and before I go, a question ..................why must Romeo die tomorrow, what's he done?

I don't watch much television; maybe only two shows with any regularity.
Tonight though, there were two new programs I saw. The first was "Brat Camp", a kind of reality show with troubled teens. Probably won't watch it again - not that it was bad; it was very moving actually, but just not real interested in the subject matter enough to make time to catch the show every week.
The other was the premire of a new program on FX, titled "Over There". Again, Hubs and I will probably not watch this one again. Way too intense; all too real, and we need to get out from "over there".

don't care for the reality shows at all.....#1. i have way too much of my own reality to deal with day in & day out...and #2. no matter how loudly they scream "reality", IT'S TELEVISION[/b] the majority of it has to be staged!!! it's like wrestling.....yes, you must be a good athlete & master a certain repertoire of "moves", but it's still a show!! don't know yet of this "OVER THERE", but if it's that intense, probably not for me....i like to either have fun or have the poopy scared out of me when i watch tv....unless of course, i am watching the news---which is sadly more than enough reality for all of us... just one gurl's opinion, of course......

I'm sooooo disappointed by NBC. First, they cancelled "Third Watch", my never-missed-it show. Now, they've screwed up "ER" to the point that it's almost unwatchable. The writing is horrific, the situations silly, and the male characters, uninteresting and wimpy. Maybe they should've just wrapped up the series when Carter left.

Glad to report that ER has made a turnaround, and and is almost back to its old self. After weeks of mystifying uncharacteristic behavior from our Country General friends, Luka is now acting like Luka again (and not a wuss), Pratt is back to Pratt, and the side characters (Sam, Ray, etc) who were, annoyingly, getting so much attention, have now gone back to background status. And - yay!! - Luka and Abby are sort-of back together, and Gallant is back from Iraq and back with Neela. TV weddings are always fun.
NBC must have taken the typewriters away from the chimps, and give them back to the writers who made this show so entertaining. Thank goodness!

I'm sooooo disappointed by NBC. First, they cancelled "Third Watch", my never-missed-it show. Drat, that's a bit of bad news, I just started watching it several weeks ago and now I'm hooked, excellent show. Any idea how far back the ones I'm watching go, started with the ones where Faith shot the drug dealer, exceptionally well played by Gene Simmonds, and is now several weeks on from there, guest starring Charles Haid as an IAD head, with a murky past apparently.

You're in the final season or 2, I believe. Man, what a great show. I really miss it!
Its cancellation was very unexpected. The ratings were fine, but I believe NBC wanted a younger viewership for that time slot than THIRD WATCH drew. When the surprise cancellation was announced, the writers had to wrap up several storylines in a hurry, which they did pretty well. At least we got a grand finale episode. Many series' fans don't get that chance to say goodbye.
Now we're waiting for THIRD WATCH on dvd!

Funny, I watched bits and pieces from time to time but never really got interested in it, then recently caught the two parter guest starring Henry Winkler, which continued into the episodes with Gene Simmonds and the ongoing IAB investigation with Charles Haid, and I was hooked, excellent show.
Just finished the season with a double header which wrapped the Charles Haid story line, so hopefully I'll have at least one more season to watch, plus all the earlier seasons that I missed when it gets to pay tv.

You've whetted my THIRD WATCH appetite, Katina. It's shown on the A&E network here. I'll have to set the vcr for it, now. Interesting to see how the show changed over the years - in the beginning a profile of NY fire, ambulance, and police squads, but later, very little of the fire department, with mostly the medics and police. I loved the realism of it. The women weren't all 22, glamorous, and size 2, and the men were of all shapes, sizes, and ages, too. They had realistic everyday problems - money, relationships, health. And the city often looked grimy and cold. Of course, those crackling storylines kept me hooked!
Dang, I miss that show!

You've whetted my THIRD WATCH appetite, Katina. That's good then, you can revisit all the past episodes and see it all evolving again, much rather watch repeats of really good shows myself, then new episodes of a lot that passes for entertainment nowadays anyway. Agree with you about the cast looking like real people instead of models playing at being cops or medics, gives the show a much more realistic edge, plus, as you say, the writing, at least in the short time I watched it, was excellent. Add some very good guest stars, and you have all the ingredients for an outstanding show, pity it took me all these years to realise that.
