If I have ADAWARE SE Personal installed would I still need my Google popup blocker? The reason I'm asking is that I haven't seen an increase in the totals listed for my blocker. It's on 1337. Obviously this might not be how this works. But I was wondering if the Adaware affected the pop up blocker or whether they are entirely two different functions. Of course the adaware isn't running in the background. I have to manually run it when I choose. But SpyBlaster is running in the background. bh

AdAware scans for spyware and adware that might be on your computer. Google popup blocker, well, blocks popups. The two are totally different things, as not all popups are spyware or adware, and not all spyware or adware come in the form of popups. SpywareBlaster doesn't scan and clean for spyware - it prevents it from ever being installed. [ more info...] I have AdAware for scanning my computer, and Google's toolbar for reasons other than popup blocking. If you have XP SP2 and/or use Mozilla (Firefox) for all your browsing (both have built-in popup blocking), then I don't see the need for another popup blocker. Is your computer still freezing?

I uninstalled SP2 at the end of Feb when all these problems ocurrred. I don't know what I'm supposed to do about that because I won't be able to get future updates unless I have SP2.
No, my computer isn't freezing anymore since I added SpyBlaster and Adaware SE Personal. I'm going to uninstall SpyBot. I don't see any use for it since I have Adaware SE Personal.

My main beef with SP2 is its automatic installation of updates. Every five minutes or so until it's finally restarted, this thing pops up asking if I want to restart now or later, and if I'm not there to say later, it'll restart automatically. This could be a real pain if I leave the room for 10 minutes while I'm in the middle of drafting a mile-long (unsaved) post and the thing decides during those 10 minutes to restart itself. Other than that, I haven't had any more problems with SP2, and several months had gone by before the last update, which was last night or the night before. If your computer isn't freezing anymore, then what is it doing?

If your computer isn't freezing anymore, then what is it doing? I had my updates set to prompt me first not automatically download them. My computer isn't freezing anymore. Part of the screen problem was that my mouse was dirty and not screwed tightly. So I fixed that part. Right now I'm okay except I don't have SP2 installed and I don't know how important that is. But I did send away for the free CD to install it and that will take 4-6 weeks to get in the mail. bh

SP2 is supposed to take care of a lot of security holes, and like you said, you can't update it any more until you get SP2. So basically, your choices are (1) get SP2, or (2) use something other than Windows.
