Harry Potter (all of them) - We were talking about something at work and I wanted to confirm I remembered the book version versus the movie correctly so I decided to re-read all of the books.

That is one of the reasons why I reread the 'Twilight Saga.' I get confused as to how events happened in the books after viewing the movies.

He eats her, she marries him. What else is there to know?

They changed some scenes, gave Bella's lines to the other characters, left a number of scenes out. And if he had of eaten her she'd be dead.

So he was selective - he ate some and left the rest. The adjustments they make while filming movies are often problematic for purists like me, but I liked a few of the things they did in the HP movies that weren't in the books. Like the Harry/Hermione dance scene - that was a good addition. On the other hand, the dragon scene in the Goblet of Fire was better in the book.

Some changes were okay. But it did irk me that they gave a lot of Bella's best lines to the other characters. I would have preferred that they had stayed true to the books.

I understand that - the changes to The Lord of the Rings were pretty glaring, and then they did it to the Hobbit too. TLOTR changes essentially lowered the standing of Frodo which I considered essential - how he "grew" during the series.

I finished the Potter books. I need to get back to adding Continuing Ed Units to my cert. But work has been rather stressful recently - I get home tired and don't get around to doing the things I should except for a nap. I've been doing a lot of those.

A day late and a comment short...
A couple of weeks ago I was reminded of this conversation you two were having while I was watching "The Great Gatsby" on television. When it first came out on DVD, LX insisted I read the book first before we watch the movie together; F. Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel is her favorite book (she claims it's the only book she's ever truly loved) and DiCaprio is one of her favorite actors. I was pleasantly surprised - I usually like books better than movies they're based on, especially if I've read the book first. Though there are a few differences between "The Great Gatsby" novel and movie - some major, some slight - I really enjoyed them both.
The only book I can remember hating that was made into a movie that I loved was "Julie and Julia". Of course, I adore Meryl Streep, so it's not a surprised I love the movie. It was Julie Powell, though, the author of the book that I absolutely loathed. In the movie, she was a likable and even at times, sympathetic character. In the book, she is the most self-absorbed, mean and nasty, whining b!tch imaginable - I don't think anyone can even make up a fictional character with as many character flaws as she has.

I haven't read either books. But I have seen "Julie and Julia" though. Loved the movie, but didn't get the book because you shared your thoughts on it before. Instead I got "My Life in France" by Julia Child. Haven't gotten around to reading it yet though.
Finished "Life and Death" the other night. Strange reading it. Was really hard to let go of "Twilight" and trying to keep both sets of characters straight. Maybe later on I'll reread it and hopefully can enjoy it for itself, without comparing the two books. Plus, I think I prefer to read through the eyes of a female protag when the book is written in first person. Maybe if Stephenie Meyer had of switched it to third person, I'd have been better able to disassociate myself from "Twilight" and get more absorbed in the story.

Oh-my-god, that would have sent me over the edge! (Though it's hilarious.)
I did the same thing as the guy reading the book - well, not exactly because I wasn't on a train, and there was no pier around that I knew of - not even a river within walking distance, and I wasn't old enough to drive. I would have thrown off a pier though, if there'd been one nearby. I was way too young to be reading "The Exorcist"; I think I was about twelve. Scared the crap out of me; I got about 3/4 of the way through it, reading late into the night at a friend's house, and just couldn't finish.
Because of the book, I've never sat through the movie either.

That would have been AWESOME!!
I thought the scene where her head spins around was really effective.

I laughed all through the movie. I had heard all these stories and I was so scared, and it was just hysterical.

Oh great! On the news tonight. A lady had some workers digging something in her back yard and they found a coffin that no one knew was there. The called the cops and now they'll say in a minute what they found inside.
..The rest of the story. She recently bought the house. Turns out the previous owners had a couple dogs that died and they buried the dogs in a coffin in the back yard – and didn’t bother digging the coffin up when they moved out. A neighbor told them she remembered that the previous owners had a more or less formal funeral for the dogs.
The cops took the coffin with them.

I haven't read anything in months. It requires time that I don't have. Actually, you have to be interested and I don't seem to have any of that either.

Same here, Stepper. I've read a few short stories here and there, some of them very good, but the last book I picked up was "Emma" by Jane Austen. I started it shortly before Christmas, got busy with other stuff, ended up putting it back on the shelf, and haven't touched it since. When I do pick it up again, I'll have to start from the beginning.
Recently though, I plucked another book off the shelf - a 1950's Campbell Soup Cookbook. Might seem weird to read a cookbook, but the thing is hilarious! Sooo glad I was not a "housewife" back then.

Graphic how?
Actually I am reading something. I've been lazy and let nearly two years go since I got me Security+ Certification. Keeping it current means I need 50 continuing education units (CEUs) every three years. Now I've got 13 months and only 10-12 CEUs. I need to get busy and that begins with putting my nose back into the CompTIA review guide. A real page turner if ever there was one, but I've forgotten some abbreviations and I need to get them back quickly. I'm hoping to get into the "Friendly Hacker" course - it'd be good for 24 CEUs.

I hate reading stuff that bores me, but it can't be avoided when you need to learn/know that stuff.

Maybe there are Webinars that will allow you to get some of your credits? They might be a bit more interesting than all that dry reading.

There are, and I've done some of them, but there's a limit of 10 CEUs through Webinars. I appreciate the thought though.
