Hey there Joxie...Nice place you have here. Thanx for the invite. As for the books...I am in the middle of 4 as we speak. Some for fun like "When I was a girl" which is a collection of memories from different women, most famous...about their childhoods. Very entertaining. And then there is a cool book called "The Gift of Fear" by Gavin De Becker. Which is nonfiction and very cool. Trying to get you to pay attention to the natural insticts you have and fear is one of them. Use it to your advantage...It's the kind of book that makes you go Ohhh Gasp That is sooo cool...Anyway those are the interesting reads. The rest are textbooks and aren't worth mentioning for they stink...So what are you reading Joxie? Other then Google searches and my post?

At the moment, I've been reading my own writings. ;D Digging through old manuscripts, dusting them off, and trying to update them and see if they can't attract some attention. ;D

Now that sounds cool. Wish I had manuscripts...I just have composition books from here to high acre...nothing made it to a formal manuscript phase. So why did ya put down the pen and paper to begin with grrl. I know you have a natural ability, I've seen it first hand. Good luck to ya...Hope you get all the attention you want, or desire. Remember thought that a true work of art only needs to be admired by the person who wrote it. Everything else is just icing on the cake...

I got a bad case of writer's block and couldn't write for a very long time... I think the fog may be lifting, which is why I've not made as many posts as I used to. I created an ezBoard to showcase my writing... but I'm thinking I may move it to ProBoards too. Or just chuck the whole board idea. {shrugs}
[Edit]
I no longer have an ezBoard/Yuku board/Tapatalk board. The links below have been updated.

I've finally started on the latest PERN novel by Anne McCaffrey (& now Todd McCaffrey, too), Dragon's Kin. I've read all the other books in this series which is probably the only series I've ever read completely. I love it. I highly suggest any sci-fi/fantasy (both!) fans to check it out. To emphasize how great I think these books are, I read a book a day (sometimes 2 days) in high school sophomore year until I finished the series. The PERN books are probably the only books that have ever captivated me.

I just finished reading "Dead Witch Walking" by Kim Harrison (new author). If you like the Anita Blake novels (early ones) then you might enjoy this novel. I did. ;D The character is relatable too, not super powered and has flaws but does need to focus on her job as a "runner" as in someone that brings in the supernatural creatures. Oh yeah, in this novel, everyone is aware that vamps, weres (werewolves) and other supernatural creatures exist, they co-exist alongside the humans. (Rachel's roommate is a vampire to give some persepective, Ivy who reminded me of Xena a bit).
Right now, I'm reading "The Last Mermaid" yes, it was in the romance section at the store but it's not all romance. It takes place, or covers, three different eras of time, the past, the dark ages and the present. So far, a human was saved by this mermaid, the last of her race, and in exchange for keeping him alive, he had to give up his soul (which he wasn't aware of but was the reason he lived instead of died) to the mermaid. They lived on the island together, had children together but his curiosity got the better of him one night and he removed this necklace she kept around her neck, shattering it and releasing his soul, this dooming himself. In her grief, she cursed the island and any who set foot there.
Light reading I guess but enjoyable nonetheless. ;D

I'm currently reading: Lovely Bones by Alice Seabold (sp?)
It's a book about a young girls murder and how the investigation into her death is solved -- except its from her point of view.
It's a best seller and it's so far beautifully written and very enjoyable to read! I rec it to anyone and I haven't even finished the book yet!

These Lovely Bones is an excellent book! I remember just devoting two days to till I was finished. No one was to disturb me! There's a part in the book that got to me but made me extremely happy for her.

I should really finish it up then! It's just sitting on my nightstand since I've been too busy to read it.
I just find it so captivating due to the POV that it's told under. It's interesting because you are given the opportunity to be sympathetic (and even empathetic in a surreal way) towards the main character... fantastic!

I finally broke down and started reading Harry Potter. A friend of mine heard that I hadn't read them, and was horrified...so he brought over his copies and so and thus...
The first one was fun, light, not brilliant. The second one was more of the same, though I have to say I am *so* clad the toned down the Lockheart character for the movie...I really couldn't stand him in the novel.
Finished book three just the other day, and you can tell that her writing is improving, along with her storytelling. Still not brilliant, but well worth the read.
Started book four, and so far, so good...I'll let you know how it goes.
In other news, I'm a *total* Pern fan, though I am a couple books behind. Tell me, those of you who are reading them, do you read them in chronological or published order?
Happy reading, Red

Hi all! I've been reading Meghan Daum's "Quality of Life Report" which is about this New Yorker who "escapes" and starts a life in the fictional but based on somewhere real, "Prairie City," with a plan to live there for a year and send video reports back to New York on the Quality of Life. So far its OK but I can't help thinking that I could have written this book. I mean...it sounds like an overly long blog entry or something. But I shall finish it anyway! www.meghandaum.com/www.qlreport.com/

I've always been totally in to Clive Barker and Stephen King. I absolutely loved "Insomnia" by Stephen King. Believe it or not, it really helped me deal with my mother's death. I also loved book one of Clive Barker's "Books Of Blood". The first story in that volume is entitled "The Midnight Meat Train". Oh baby that's quite a ride!! LOL

I'm still engulfed in McCaffrey's PERN series. I've finished Dragonflight, DragonQuest, The White Dragon, and Dragonsong, and I've got 3 pages of Dragonsinger left. Dragondrums is next! I could definitely read this series over and over. At least until the newest book comes out in January! As for Harry Potter- I'd read those again, but an ex ran off with 2 of my books!

Listening to Analog (science-fiction mag), and TEXTThe Human BrainTEXT by Asimov, in case I ever get one. Last novel I heard was about surrealism/counter-culture, taking place in the 1920s, 1968, and 2015 or so... ends with surrealists taking over Paris in 2015 and the "normals" attack them with tanks... the surrealists defend themselves by generating giant surreal absurd images on the battlefield out of their imaginations, which go after the tanks, pretty successfully.

I just ordered a book called "Chinese Playground : A Memoir" by Bill Lee. It is about Asian organized crimes and gangs in San Francisco. The Chinese Playground is an area in S.F. where the author grew up. The book looks VERY good.

I'm sure someone must have mentioned these stories before, but I couldn't find anything on the postings from the old site ...a couple of months back I finished reading the most recent in the series of Missy Good's uber-Xena 'Dar and Kerry' stories. Now, if you haven't read these then IMHO half your life is currently missing! As a graduate of studies in English and American literature I never thought I would say than a something from the genre of internet fan fiction is the best thing I've ever read, but its true! Go to Missy Good's website and read them immediately,I defy you not to be hooked! When I read the first one, which is called 'Tropical Storm' I was hooked within about 2 pages and then no one could get anything out of me for about 6 months as I ploughed through all the subsequent ones...i'm going to stop now otherwise y'all might think I'm nuts... dixie
