Yep, agree with you again, Scrappy. When I lived in Germany, instead of hotdogs, brauts where sold at festivals and soccer games and such. Served on thick, crusty kaiser rolls and with sauerkraut as a topping. Skip the sauerkraut and put spicy mustard on it instead, and yum, better than any ball-park dog ever.
My friend recently was fermenting the stuff in a huge crock in her laundry room, (don't ask), and the stench brought back memories of when I was a kid. Coming home from school, I could always tell when Mom was cooking sauerkraut before I even opened the door. The house would reek of the stuff. Ick.

One of the joys of returning to my home country after a year abroad was the proper burger with the works. The things some of those other countries did to their burger (or rather what they often didn't do) was appalling. And you can also get a decent kebab here too

So, Mij, what do they put on their burgers in Australia? I've read that they put a slice of beet on their burgers in New Zealand. I think that's what I read.

A burger with the works in Australia would have this on it freshly prepared cooked mince beef pattie fried egg pineapple slice cheese sliced tomato sliced beetroot grated lettuce fried onion grated carrot (optional) bacon (though I don't eat pork, so I never have this on mine either) it would all go onto a HUGE freshly toasted & buttered bun/roll sauce would be either tomato or BBQ. All that for about $4.50 Australian. The equivalent in England seems to be pre-made & cooked beef pattie not so fresh roll brown sauce or English mustard price about 2.50 UK pounds.... Eh, I know which one I prefer not sure what the Kiwis put on their burgers, but I would suprised if it was much different from Australian ones

All that on an Australian burger!!! OMG, I wouldn't be able to leave the table for days. Just roll me out the door and down the street and not feed me for a week!

Beetroot! Yeah, it was beetroot that I read was on a New Zealand burger... I do believe I read that they put fried egg on it too. All that sounds yucky to me, but then I didn't grow up eating it. Here in America, different states have different ways of cooking food too. What the south calls BBQ is completely different from what the north calls BBQ. And what other parts of the US call a Philly Cheese Steak is completely different from what one is in Philadelphia. But it's all good.

I just wanted to see what one looked like. And in the process of seeking out an image, I learned that a beetroot and a beet are the same thing. We here in the US just call it by a different name. I think I've taken a taste of baby food beets, but that's about it. I didn't like the taste. But there are a lot of things that I eat now that I wouldn't have years ago, so who's to say I won't like them later on as I get older.

Had a burger with the works for dinner tonight (sans bacon of course) & it looked just like the pictures Though I had to leave some to share with my chihuahua too Hi there G, nice to meet you too
