One would think you Yanks could arrange it so that it's not the middle of the night there when it's the middle of the day here, everybody's cleared out by the time I get here. Anyway, if that teas still hot i'd love some thanks ILB. Sorry to hear you're not feelin' well Scrappy, two needles in the sit me down doesn't sound very pleasent. What seems to be the problem? Whatever it is I hope you're over it soon. And how are you coming along MG, well on the road to recovery I hope. At least we know you're in good hands with ILB1 providing plenty of TLC, so that takes a lot of the worry out of the situation.

Hello Katina. Haven't talked to you in a while, and how're you and those Cats doing.
Ever have a sweet potato? Strange question, huh? I was talking to my brother yesterday, and he said, (I'm not sure how we got on the topic of sweet potatoes), that is the one thing is friend asked him to bring from home when he went to visit him in Sydney: smuggle in sweet potatos.

Hello to you as well Phalon, yep, it's been a while. I'm doin' fine thanks, the Cats not quite so fine at the moment. Didn't play this weekend, so hopefully will come back refreshed, and with the return of several injured players, will again start kicking some major butt.
Sweet potatoes [ that one came out of left field ] I know what you mean, but don't ever recall actually having tried them, always just buy the common old variety.
You've piqued my interest though, may have to hunt some down next time i'm stocking up the old larder.

Sorry for your Cats, Kat.
Yeah - the sweet potato thing: Family in town this weekend, and my brother and I were fixing dinner. Summer squash from the garden, and I asked if he liked squash. As long as it's not fixed in that mushy way like sweet potatoes, he says.
We both agree that sweet potatoes are best if cooked and eaten like a baked potato; with butter and sour cream.
Anyway - why I brought this up to you: He said that his friend, who was working in Sydney for a year or so, could not find sweet potatoes anywhere there. An American Thanksgiving thing, you know, and being away from home and family wanted bit of home for the very American celebration.
Just saw your name, and it reminded me of the conversation with my brother for some reason.

Thanks Phalon, and don't worry, the mighty Cats will bounce back this week ............. I think they'll bounce back this week ................. they better bounce back this week. Checked those sweet potatoes in the supermarket today [ strange lookin' blighters ] and reckon i'll buy some next time i'm shoppin' and give em a try. Can't understand why they're hard to find in a city the size of Sydney, compared to them, where I live is just a whistle stop, and they're plentiful here. Wonder what it was about seeing my name that reminded you of that conversation. Did ya maybe think, hey it's mister potato head. Oh, by the way, how's your eyeballs? Should play safe outdoors.

Well, we are talking sweet potatoes here.
I think, actually, it was the location, (rolls eyes).
I don't know why he couldn't find them in Sydney. Maybe it was the season? Yours are different from ours, yes? Imported or grown domestically, I wonder. Perhaps, they were out of season when our Thanksgiving rolls around in November? Or maybe, all those Sydneians...Sydney dwellers...those with Sydknee pads; which is it...were looking for an excuse to feast, and decided to celebrate the American holiday, and bought up all the sweet potatoes before the friend got a chance to go to the grocery.
And hoping for you that the Cats bounce back next week....and not three weeks from now.

Ah yes, and I'm as sweet as all get out. Pfft.
That's an odd saying, don't you think? Not quite sure what it means, but I do know I should get out of here, and to bed.
Later, Sweet Tater.

November is our fall, and their spring... I believe. And now that we're just out of spring and into summer... they should be just out of fall and into winter. So that would explain why they have sweet potatoes in the stores now... would it not?

Hey, ILB. I see you in the neighborhood, and if you happen to drop in here, whatever you want to drink is on my tab.
I need to run now, but I'll grab something cold on the way out the door - a nice tall glass of iced water, perhaps? LMAO. No, really.

Yep, we're a month into winter here Jox, which follows what we call "Autumn". Are sweet potatoes seasonal, cause you can get plain old ordinary spuds year round.

Fall is called Autumn here too... But I hear it called 'Fall' more often than 'Autumn' so I went with that. As for sweet potatoes being seasonal... I don't really know.... I think most people only use them for the Thanksgiving table though, ignoring them the rest of the time. Phalon would most likely know the answer.

There's somethin' I never knew, i've only ever heard it called "Fall" in anything regarding the U.S of A.
We'll have to wait on "sweet tater" to give us the lowdown on sweet taters then Jox.

I prefer the word autumn to fall - it just sounds so...autumnal. Speaking of which: sweet potatoes are an autumnal crop. So it stands to reason they would be in abundance now in the groceries over there, it being your autumn/fall. But they store like potatoes do - almost forever. Them not being in the stores there during Thanksgiving I suppose, depends if they are grown domestically, and how many are grown. Imported, and I'd think they would not be real plentiful, depending on how many sweet potatoes Australians eat? Since you've never had one, my guess would be not a lot. Oooo - but you gotta try sweet potato pie! Beats pumpkin pie any day.
ILB - actually you just lost your bottom dinar, (psst, I'll give it back). I rarely drink soda - maybe only one or two a year, if that. Coffee is my addiction, and I can drink it anytime; even in 90 degree temperatures.
Orange juice is a favorite too; the pulpy kind.
Oh - and water. Really cold. (I'm trying).
Mountain Dew? Ooo, powerful stuff. My neighbor drank tons of it....until he started having heart palpitations, went to the hospital because he thought he was having a heart attack, and they told him to lay off the stuff. Hasn't touched it since.
Mountain Dew will always remind me of camping with my family when I was about 13 or 14. I met a boy; innocent flirting; hand-holding on the beach. He asked me if I wanted a pop, saying the park store had the best Mountain Dew ever. This struck me as funny and I burst out laughing. How could one store have better Mountain Dew than another? I think I hurt his feelings, and with an Orange Crushed look on his face he explained it was because they kept it on ice. Felt bad for laughing, and we made 7-UP.

I love orange juice with the pulp too... don't know what the problem is. And my mom's dad would come in from being out in the summer heat and drink hot coffee... he said it cooled him off.

Sounds like a real fun day. Glad to hear the mending process is coming alone okay though, albeit somewhat slow i'm guessing. Just don't go overdoing it with the rehab like you did with your shoulder. And I think you better keep all those happy pills, sounds like you [ and ILB1 ] will be needing them more then us.

I once received some very good advice, Marysgurl, regarding covering up an awful scar. "Strike a sultry pose and nobody will notice the scar."
Ok - so the scar was on my table, and the pose I was striking was over the top of it. Hey - it worked for me; maybe for you too?
Glad to hear your stitches are out. Remember during physical therapy that you are not supposed to be experiencing pain while doing so. That's what they told Hubs anyway.
Good luck. Recover quickly, (and painlessly).
Katina -
Sweet Tater was in reference to you. I am more of an Argh Rotten Tater - just ask my girls, the Tater Tots.

Walking in and grabbing a seat in the corner...listening to the potato talk makes me yen for some vodka... Think I will have a nice strong drink.
