Sorry about your troubles, Jox. Glad to have you back!
Tornadoes rumbled through today, and last I heard, 10,000 were without electricity. Though there was quite a lot of damage, I'm glad the storm didn't move through a more heavily-populated area.

Thanks Siren. I may be without power again when those tornadoes and strong winds hit here. Lots of weak and limp limbs just waiting to tear completely loose and take away my heat & lights yet again. I've got nothing but limited dry & canned goods to eat as it is. I'm throwing spoiled food out & cleaning and haven't replaced what I've lost yet. Don't want to get new while the stench is still so strong.

The gals won Bedlam, the game between OU and OSU! And Courtney's amazing achievements continue. Today, she became our conference's all-time points leader and field goals leader, and became the NCAA's all-time leading rebounder. Imagine that - more rebounds than any female player in Division 1 history! soonersports.com/sports/w-baskbl/recaps/020809aaa.htmlCongratulations again Siren, a bit belated but hey, I've never been known for my punctuality. Must be a great time to be a Sooners fan I'm thinking.

It is, indeed, kat! I wish y'all could be here to watch some games with me. Last night's was a dandy, a real nail-biter. The Sooners beat an very good Iowa State team by just a handful of points. ISU's coach is an excellent tactician, and came up with an effective game plan: he slowed the game down, and had his team shoot at the very end of every shot clock (a time limit within which you have to at least touch the rim with the ball). The Sooners like to play at a fast pace. So, ISU's plan disrupted OU's rhythm. And the shot clock strategy was effective because it was physically draining - having to play 30 straight seconds of tough defense, possession after possession, wore all the Sooners down. All in all, I know the Sooners - a very fit team - were getting tired as the game wore on. But they came through. Courtney was absolutely brilliant - 25 pts and 19 rebounds. ISU concentrated on stifling our outside shooters, which left only one player to guard Courtney. And CP enjoyed a size advantage all evening, too. You just can't stop CP with one-on-one defense, particularly when she out-sizes you. She was amazing. game recap: soonersports.com/sports/w-baskbl/recaps/021109aac.htmlI keep hijacking this thread with my sports rants. Sorry if that annoys anyone! I'll get back to business with a 6-word comment: OU's still undefeated in conference play!

It's Deja Vu All Over Again
13 days & nights without electricity ... 2 days & nights with ... 2 days & nights without once again! I think I may have to blow money on a generator of my own. I'd like one that ran on propane so I could just hook it up to my tank and not have to deal with refilling it with gas every time it ran out. And I'd have to buy and store gas because most of the pumps are electric now, and getting gas was pretty hard from what I'd heard on the radio during the major outage. So a propane generator would be a smart move.
Thirteen days without electricity ain't fun.

No, no, no - don't be silly.
It's like Katina's Cats, (whose season is about to start, I'm sure). I've never seen a footie game, but the excitement of it all spills over the board. When reading your OU posts, I can feel your excitement, the excitement of the games, and though I've never been to a Sooner game, I'm rooting for them right along with you.
Keeping fingers crossed for continued success!
Well, thank goodness it wasn't 30, and you weren't dealing with a flock of vampires speaking gutteral foreign-sounding gibberish! I can't help it, "13 days and nights", reminds me of that cheesy vampire flick, "30 Days of Night".
Glad you're back....without bite marks.

I haven't seen that movie yet. I've seen it on the satellite grid, but not at a time when I was able to take time to watch it. I hear it's awful, so I'm in no hurry.
It's nice to be back ... bite marks or no. Let's hope this is it for quite a long time.

Thanks for indulging me, Gams. And thanks for the good wishes! Tonight, they're playing Kansas, and should win handily.
I didn't see "30 Days Of Night". Had planned to, but a friend said it completely grossed him out. I did see the latest "Underworld" flick, though. Big thumbs up! It's a definite improvement over the last one. Good story (Romeo's a werewolf, Juliet's a vampire), cool costumes and sets. Comic book-level gore. A hottie hero, and an admirable leading lady. Good stuff!
Okay, back to 6 words:
Happy Valentine's Day to all Whooshites!

Haven't seen a game since Tennessee!
Pfft. I got all into the Sooner fever and I haven't been able to pick up a game since that one. But I run into the same problem with my Razorbacks. I'm lucky to catch a guys game, but an SEC West womens game on this East side--rarely happens. I haven't seen the Lady Razorbacks play roundball in years.

May get sleet ... ... ... and go missing.
Oh, and I caught "30 Days of Night" and just got through watching it. I find that if I have high expectations going in, I am usually disappointed. And if I have low expectations going in, I find that it is usually better than I had anticipated. It wasn't so bad ... but I did keep thinking they should know better than to waste their food like that. I think they got more blood on the ground and on themselves than they got in their stomachs.

"30 Days of Night"....I thought it was a neat premise for a vampire movie, but the execution was poor - including the waste of perfectly good food. HA, Joxie! Too funny.
Thanks for the tip on the third "UnderWorld", Siren. I liked the first, (cool leather duster!); I can't recall seeing the second, and have been wondering about the third. I'll have to catch it when it comes out on DVD.
Today...cold, but sunny.
Looks to be a beautiful day.

Almanac predicts ice, end of February!
My sister told us over Sunday dinner that her almanac stated there would be a severe ice storm at the end of February. I hope the prediction was off by a month and it was the one that hit at the end of January.

Violent winds and blowing snow here.
And the Almanac has something to say about that too: Violent winds from the north in February herald a fertile year.
Our wind isn't coming from the north though. I wonder what westerly winds herald? If not fertile, than I hope at least some kind of "tile". How about ceramic tile; I could use a new kitchen floor.

Lol! I hope the friendly winds bear bounteous tile for you, Gams.
We've had lovely, mild temperatures of late. Last night, on the local news, one of the anchors asked the weatherman if winter was over. He quickly replied, "Oh, no! No, no."

*cough, cough...cough, gasp* "Hello, Doctor?"
I'm headed to the doctor today. It seems half the people I know are sick. The smell of Lysol is everywhere at work. And my symptoms are typical - stuffy head and a heavy chest. The chest part is worrisome - makes it hard to sleep. I awoke today in one of those awful, suffocating panic attacks. Gad, I hate those! Called my health insurance "ask a nurse" line, and she said I should see my doctor. I hope I get this cleared up soon.

Feel better soon, Siren! LX too!
Except for the one hour she went this morning before calling me to pick her up, she's been home from school the entire week with the same symptoms you described. Her illness though, is also accompanied with an extreme case of melodrama.

Dental Dominatrix – she’s gonna be surly.
Especially surly. Making appointments six months in advance, and inevitably, when it gets close to the date, it seems there’s always a schedule conflict. LX’s BIG orchestra concert is this morning; it's a competition thing at a college about 25 miles from here, and starts at the same time I’m supposed to be sitting in The Chair. The Dominatrix agreed, out of the kindness of her whip, to come in an hour early before the dentist office opened to clean my teeth. I’m grateful….but at the same time, being in the office alone with her, I'm somehow afraid....very afraid.
