I agree on both counts, kat. And Michele Voepel writes about women's sports with a lot of heart and intelligence. I'm a big fan.
I'll get you for that, Scrappy, and your little wolfie profile photo, too!! *evil grin*

Woohoo! Two sure signs that basketball season begins soon: my OU season tix arrived in the mail, and another Big 12 Media Day has come and gone for Coach Coale and company: www.soonersports.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/102010aab.htmlNext week, I'll attend a scrimmage and autograph session with the Sooners. What fun!

Sorry to have gone missing again, Internet connection problems were the culprit this time. Finally decided to upgrade to Broadband after having been on dial-up all these years boy it sure is quicker. Anyway my ISP had trouble getting me connected for some reason, but all's well that ends well and now I'm practically flying about the place. Why did I post this in the Sport thread I hear you ask, well it's time for some bragging about the greatest sporting team in the history of mankind [ no I'm serious ] Just knocked off the reigning premiers last Friday night and now head the ladder as the only undefeated team in the comp' with a seven and zip record, not bad for a side that many were writing off after last season. The other news is that we're on ESPN in the states the weekend after next, that's Saturday May 28 oz time, so you'll all have the pleasure, nay the privilege, of watching the mighty Cats strut their stuff ..... alright, alright, try and contain your excitement. Go Cats.

Cool! And knowing who wins doesn't matter at all! So, were you in the stands? ...with a coldie in one hand, and a semi-edible pie in the other, shouting insults at the opponent?

So, I'll finally get a chance to see for myself what this thing you call footie is all about....and see the Cats?
And you at the same time?
And learn the proper technique for shouting insults?
Oh-my-gosh!!!! I'd better start resting up for all that excitement!

Last reminder ........................... The Whoosh clock says 9PM [ May27 ] and it's 1PM May28 here; the game starts in six hours from now so you'll have to do the maths at your end. Got a feeling that if it's being shown live there it will be at an awkard time, may have to set the remote, cause I know ya don't wanna miss it, right ...... right? P.S. We're in the blue and white so hiss the mob in red, especially the bald headed little git wearing the number nine jumper, generally regarded as the best player in the competion he was a Cats player for about eight years before getting a huge offer to join the Suns [ a new team in the comp ] at the end of last year and he took the thirty pieces of silver and scarpered like a thief in the night ............. hissssss Go Cats.

And hisssss at the awkward time. I fall into that 5am EDT which would be just about the time I'll be getting up to go to work. I don't have a (working) VCR either, so you'll just have save me a couple cold ones, and tell me how it went.
Go Cats!

So....? Do I need to ask who won? What, Gams, ya mean you didn't call your work place and tell em you were going to be in late due to some important business. ;D Yeah we won, slow start, flogged em in the finish, nine zip, top of the ladder, things are going swimmingly at the moment. Go Cats.

Though I wouldn't have minded coming in late due to the most important business of watching the Cats win, I'm sure my boss would have a different view....Memorial Day weekend is probably our busiest of the year; I worked both yesterday and today, and we were swamped (despite cold yesterday and torrential downpours today).
Now, how 'bout that cold one you were supposed to save me. I could use one right about now.

Well done, Cats! Keep it up!! And kat, please keep us posted on the boys' progress. *fingers crossed*
My OU and Oklahoma State softball gals are doing well, too - BOTH in the Women's College World Series in Oklahoma City! Each school has made it to the series several times before, but never at the same time. This is gonna be a blast!
My dad has been watching all the NCAA playoff games leading up to this, for any team that happened to be on tv. We watched so much softball yesterday, I thought my eyeballs would fall out. But it sure was fun. Daddy is all excited about the World Series. He has his tournament bracket right by his easy chair, ready for the first pitch.
Boomer Sooner! Ride 'em, Cowgirls!! Woop, woop!!

Well I gotta be totally honest and say I'm rather disappointed you'd put your job ahead of the Cats Gams, but I'm prepared to overlook it this one time. ;D So here's that coldie, thought of offering you a pie to go with it but was afraid that you'd take one bite and then I'd be wearing the rest of it. Well done, Cats! Keep it up!! And kat, please keep us posted on the boys' progress. *fingers crossed* Sure will Siren, and congrats' on your girls as well. .......... Boomer Sooner! Well, shoot. Both my Okie teams are now in the losers bracket. The Cowgirls went extra innings, but then lost suddenly when an opposing player hit a solo home run. Rats! The Sooners? They met a cool and talented freshman pitcher who was simply outstanding in her World Series debut. They lost 3-1. Sooo...we'll see.
Come on, kat - give me some good news!

When I arrived at my folks' today, right after lunch, my dad was watching the Women's College World Series. When I left at about 8:30, he was STILL watching softball. He's been filling out his tournament bracket, keeping up with the winners. He loves it so, I wish the playoffs lasted longer. But my mom, who is not a fan, might lose her mind!

The girls are fun to watch, but I heard that softball was dropped from the Olympics for some reason. It seems softball got lumped in with the Olympic committee's decision to drop baseball as an Olympic event. A shame, as softball was one of the most fan popular summer events. Lobbyists continue their efforts to get softball restored to competition. I hope your lads keep on keeping on, kat. But now that my World Series is over, can we move right on to basketball season? I'm so ready.

I am so with you, Scrappy! So with you. At the grocery store last week, I saw a boy of about 10 wearing his long-sleeved Steelers shirt, when it was near 100 degrees outside. I said, "I guess you guys are ready for football, huh?" The dad grinned and said, "It looks like the lockout is almost over."

*sigh.....
I'm prepared for the worst though. A season of injury and disappointment due to the lack of preparation and possibly a longer season which is bad for the players.

I was thinking today that some players are going to be rusty when the season starts. You're right - some injuries are bound to arise from it. I also agree about a longer season NOT being a good idea. Though I would love watching extra games, they would be really hard on the players.
Have you heard that Favre might be pondering another comeback? Geez, some people just don't know when to quit!
