For some reason, this song popped in my head today, and stayed there, as it did for weeks after I first heard it, about a year ago. Just the chorus is on "repeat" in my head, and on my lips: *singing* "No one..No one...No oooooone can get in the way of what I'm feeling for you...":
No One - Alicia Keys
The video has been watched more than 75,000,000 times on youtube. Amazing!

The Crow & the Butterfly...ShinedownI think this is one of their best songs, but it could just be my state of mind these days. Anyhoo, I must've played it in my head about 175 times last night in and out of what I try and call "sleep". I painted your room at midnight So I'd know yesterday was over I put all your books on the top shelf Even the one with the four leaf clover
Man, I'm getting older I took all your pictures off the wall And wrapped them in a newspaper blanket I haven't slept in what seems like a century And now I can barely breathe
Just like a crow chasing the butterfly Dandelions lost in the summer sky When you and I were getting high as outer space I never thought you'd slip away I guess I was just a little too late
Your words still serenade me Your lullabies won't let me sleep I've never heard such a haunting melody Oh, it's killing me You know I can barely breathe
Just like a crow chasing the butterfly Dandelions lost in the summer sky When you and I were getting high as outer space I never thought you'd slip away I guess I was just a little too late
Just like a crow chasing the butterfly Dandelions lost in the summer sky When you and I were getting high as outer space I never thought you'd slip away I guess I was just a little too late
Like a crow chasing the butterfly Dandelions lost in the summer sky When you and I were getting high as outer space I never thought you'd slip away I guess I was just a little too late
Just a little too late

Dog and Butterfly - by Heart
There I was with the old man Stranded again so off I'd ran A young world crashing around me No possibilities of getting what I need He looked at me and smiled Said "No, no, no, no, no child.
See the dog and butterfly. Up in the Air he like to fly." Dog and butterfly Below she had to try. She roll back down To the warm soft ground laughing She don't know why, she don't know why Dog and butterfly
Well I stumbled upon your secret place Safe in the trees you had tears on your face Wrestling with your desires frozen strangers Stealing your fires. The message hit my mind Only words that I could find
See the dog and butterfly Up in the air he like to fly Dog and butterfly below she had to try She roll back down to the warm soft ground Laughing to the sky, up to the sky Dog and butterfly
We're getting older the world's getting colder For the life of me I don't know the reason why Maybe it's livin' making us give in Hearts rolling in taken back on the tide We're balanced together ocean upon the sky
Another night in this strange town Moonlight holding me light as down Voice of confusion inside of me Just begging to go back where I'm free Feels like I'm through Then the old man's words are true
See the dog and butterfly Up in the air he like to fly Dog and butterfly, below she had to try She roll back down to the warm soft Ground with a little tear in her eye She had to try, she had to try Dog and butterfly yeah Up in the air, he liked to fly The dog and butterfly, below she had to try She rolled back down to the warm soft ground Laughing she don’t know why But she had to try she had to try Dog and butterfly

Me too tommygurl. For the most part, I tend to like one or two songs from any singer or group, but there are exceptions. I like more than one or two from Heart, and Fleetwood Mac. They have more than just a couple songs that I like too. Maybe it's an association with some event, but Songbird has always been a favorite.
Written by Christine McVie
For you, there'll be no more crying, For you, the sun will be shining, And I feel that when I'm with you, It's alright, I know it's right
To you, I'll give the world to you, I'll never be cold 'Cause I feel that when I'm with you, It's alright, I know it's right.
And the songbirds are singing, Like they know the score, And I love you, I love you, I love you, Like never before.
And I wish you all the love in the world, But most of all, I wish it from myself.
And the songbirds keep singing, Like they know the score, And I love you, I love you, I love you, Like never before, like never before.

I've had this song stuck in my head off and on for the last two weeks. I've never heard it on the radio, but found it by accident on "On Demand" television. LX wanted to show me the video for her favorite song du-jour, and running down the alphabetical list, I saw this.
Ooooo, Chris Cornell. Stop there, LX, and let's watch; I can watch him all day. <swoon> We listened, we watched, and LX puts her hand on top of her hand like it's a rooster's crown, and opens and closes it as if she's operating a sock puppet.
"Ok, I give. What are you doing?"
"Screaming at the top of my head." (part of the song's chorus.) "Shouldn't it be 'screaming at the top of your lungs?'"
"Maybe 'at the top of your lungs' was 'on the tip of his tongue', but he wrote the first thing 'off the top of his head'?"
"And I bet he meant it 'from the bottom of his heart'."
The rooster crown hand-puppet is now a common sight in our house. She loves this song, and though I prefer Cornell's Soundgarden and Audioslave sound better, this one has grown on me too. Probably because I hear it a hundred times a day.
And whatever body part he's screaming off, at, or from, he's so adorable singing it, I'd like to smother him in gravy and sop him up with a biscuit.
(Did I get that right, Siren? You posted once that your aunt, I think it is, says something similar - it cracked me up.)
Here he is....the adorable, soppable, swoonishly delicious Chris Cornell, singing "Scream".

Under the Boardwalk - The Drifters
Oh, when the sun beats down and burns the tar up on the roof And your shoes get so hot you wish your tired feet were fire-proof Under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be
(Under the boardwalk) out of the sun (Under the boardwalk) we'll be havin' some fun (Under the boardwalk) people walking above (Under the boardwalk) we'll be faling in love Under the board-walk (board-walk!)
From the park you hear the happy sound of a carousel Mm-mm, you can almost taste the hot dogs and French fries they sell Under the boardwalk, down by the sea On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be
(Under the boardwalk) out of the sun (Under the boardwalk) we'll be havin' some fun (Under the boardwalk) people walking above (Under the boardwalk) we'll be falling in love Under the board-walk (board-walk!)
Oooooh, under the boardwalk, down by the sea, yeah On a blanket with my baby is where I'll be
(Under the boardwalk) out of the sun (Under the boardwalk) we'll be havin' some fun (Under the boardwalk) people walking above (Under the boardwalk) we'll be falling in love Under the board-walk (board-walk!)

So, so, so....what'd ya think, Siren? Soppable, or not? Maybe his sobbability is subjective; you know I like the scruff. But you have to admit, not many men can wear a loosely knit, long hooded sweater, and look oh-so-fine wearing it. Or want to wear it - I asked Hubs if he'd wear one similar, and he said no.
Of course, I could always get him one anyway....since he wouldn't wear it, it'd end up in my closet. I'd wear it; I love that sweater.
Drats! I hear another ear-worm tapping at my brain door!

Poncho and Lefty - Willie Nelson and Merle Haggard
Living on the road my friend was gonna keep you free and clean Now you wear your skin like iron and your breath's as hard as kerosene You weren't your mama's only boy but her favorite one it seems She began to cry when you said goodbye and sank into your dreams Poncho was a bandit boy his horse was fast as polished steel He wore his gun outside his pants for all the honest world to feel Poncho met his match you know on the deserts down in Mexico Nobody heard his dyin' words ah but that's the way it goes All the Federales say they could've had him any day They only let him slip away out of kindness I suppose

For about two days now. I even had other people walking around humming it yesterday at the festival...because of course, it doesn't just run around in my head...I usually just go on and sing it right out loud--at least until people start shooshing me. I'll give you a hint, Gams. Aren't you still just dying to know what it is?

I know what you mean though. I like quite a few of those "oldies" too. I never thought Stairway to Heaven would be an 'oldie', but it is. If you like Poncho and Lefty, I suspect you liked My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys too. It's another one of the Willie songs that's easy on the ears.

My favorite from Willie, aside from the often-heard "Blue Eyes Crying In The Rain", is "Angel Flying Too Close To The Ground".
Yesterday, someone mentioned the Broadway classic, "A Chorus Line". Ever since then, I've had "What I Did For Love" on the brain. Sheesh!

Thank you, kind sir! We lost a great one this week: Vern Gosdin, who died at the age of 73. Though he never got the adulation that George Jones has gotten, I think Vern was every bit as good a singer as The Possum. And unlike George, Vern co-wrote many of his hits. If you care to learn more about him, I suggest "Do You Believe Me Now", "Chiseled In Stone", "I Can Tell By The Way You Dance", and the one that's been on my mind most of this week, "Is It Raining At Your House". www.rhapsody.com/vern-gosdin#

Angel ~ Sarah McLachlan
In the arms of an angel Fly away from here From this dark cold hotel room And the endlessness that you fear You are pulled from the wreckage Of your silent reverie You're in the arms of the angel May you find some comfort there
(Because I'm missing my babies. Mine all had paws, but they were still my babies. Yeah, I know I'm a bit maudlin about them, but they were all special one way or another.)
