Windows Defender - (from Microsoft.com), will help prevent & block the false pop-ups from the fake anti-virus alerts. It's free.
If you believe your machine is affected by malicious software or potentially unwanted software, you can use Microsoft Security Essentials or another up-to-date scanning and removal tool to detect and remove malware or other potentially unwanted software from your computer.

I haven't checked with the thread in a long time. I only just got online, but I haven't had any issues so far. Check with the status bar when opening a page, you'll see the link that's hanging everything up. Add it to the blocked list.

What's up with the stupid login spamish advertisements? Twice, I tried to login and got a 'verify you're human by filling out this thingie to sign up for this or that' form (obviously, I'm paraphrasing...and doing it badly). It was different advertisements for different products or services each time. Pfft. I'm pretty sure I'm human, and don't want to sign up for anything, so I refreshed the site, and tried to login again. The advertisements weren't there.

I've not had that problem, so I've no idea what's going on with it. I don't check in with the support forum unless I come across something, so I'll try to see if any others are complaining about this.

Help! This is the place for that, right? That's what the title says anyway.
Joxie, or any of you computer types...is there a way I can block that looping video thing at the bottom of some of the threads? Whenever I'm in a thread that has it (not all of them do, and it seems random - sometimes it's there, other times it's not), my computer runs extremely slow or freezes altogether.

Are you in IE or Firefox? I add the AdBlock plugin to my browser. Then when you hover over ads "Block" pops up and I then block it. I'm not seeing anything. And Proboards claims they never use annoying ads, so you might want to check for a virus to be on the safe side.

I use Firefox. Been running a lot of virus and malware scans just to be safe due to the excessive amount of browsing sites for the drill that I've been doing - nothing comes up as being even a potential threat, so I'm pretty sure I'm clear there. It's not a pop-up or anything - the video appears on the right side of the 'related topics & more' block that shows up when you scroll down to the very bottom of a thread.

On which threads? So I can see what might be the culprit.
This is what it says at the top of the forum:
Please consider supporting this website by disabling your ad-blocker. This website does not use audio ads, popups, or other annoyances. Thank you!

I opened a Chrome browser, but it has AdBlock too, so I closed it and opened Safari. The only ads I see there are ones for creating your own Proboards. No sound. Yet. I'll keep going through threads to see if I get any with sound.

I don't see what you are talking about at the top of the forum. I see a Zillow ad, which I'm assuming is because I'm selling a house and Ad Choice has determined that whether I'm interested or not, they are going to assume that I need to see the ad. (I don't have an ad-blocker, though the little blue arrow up there tells me I can opt out.)
What I'm talking about is after the posts, and after the 'quick reply' box. It doesn't appear when I'm on the 'create post' screen. It's in this thread.

Okay, now other ads are showing up. But none have sound.

"not other ads"?? I'm not sure what you mean.
The thing I'm seeing doesn't have sound either.
Oh, wait..."now" other ads? So you see them too?

It's at the top of 'my' forum. It's there because I have AdBlock, and they want me to allow their ads to show.
Yes. I had to open a Safari browser in order to see any ads on the forum/threads. The ads I see there so far are silent. And Proboards claims their ads are not annoying.

The "Farmer's Insurance" one does take a while to load. With AdBlock I don't see any ads here, ever. That's my best advise.

I wouldn't say they're annoying...unless say, a person has a really old computer that doesn't like looping videos because they tire easily, so it decides it's got to take a little nap while its owner gets frustrated.
I noticed my computer bogging down here a few days before I noticed the ads because I don't tend to scroll past the last post in the thread. Once I did notice the videos, I noticed that whenever I was in a thread that had one, is the only time my computer ran slow.

So how does one go about getting this Ad Block thing?

Slowing down my computer annoys me big time. That is one of the reasons I use AdBlock. That, and some of the ads contained viruses at one time. And that is why I still use it here.

Ooo, thanks. I'll check into it probably later. Uhmm, btw, Tools? Is that "Adminstrative Tools" in my control panel? I don't see anything in there that looks like it might be for blocking ads.

Is this the only site you have open? I ask because, as an example, Yahoo will run ads on a Yahoo page even if you have it minimized. It would seem that something is running & using up your memory and/or processor. And perhaps you can do the usual - delete browsing history, defrag, etc.

ARGH!
No, I can have 53 sites open, or just Whoosh...as long as that stupid video loops in the thread I'm in here, everything runs slow.
Just haven't had a chance to do the add-on yet, though I did find it...sort of. Firefox add-ons for every add block on everything under the sun - Facebook, Twitter, various e-mails, and "popular websites". Wouldn't really consider this a popular website, but maybe I'll give that a try.
