I did like the movie yes, it was sort of the "thinking persons" vampire movie, moving away from the (now sadly lamented & missed) Hammer style.

Isn't anyone watching any movies??? Mij?? David?? Scrap'?? Hello out there..??.... Oh yes, still watching. That's not a bad Clint Eastwood movie. I think it was also Eastwoods directorial debut as well, though my favourite of his non-westerns or Dirty Harry type movies is The Eiger Sanction. I've never seen TKAM, it's something I should remedy. Spike Lee is an interesting film maker. I saw one of his early films, Do The Right Thing, one of those films that asks questions but doesn't even pretend to know where the answer might lie, though after Mo Better Blues I stopped following what he was up to. (Never saw Malcolm X or American History whatever it was called). So you're on your own with that one As for what I've been watching, alas my mother just put me through one of those excrutiating Kevin ("Clerks", "Mall Rats") Smith films, in this case, "Dogma". Sigh.... I should have known better & insisted on watching "Evil Dead 3 : Army Of Darkness" instead, or "Alive" so I could practice my German. As it was, mum & her husband fell asleep & I played with my puppy, Some movies I am very much looking forward to being released here shortly are Constantine Despite having Keano Reeves in it, the Hellblazer story is just too fantastic to be totally ruined. House Of The Flying Daggers By the people that made Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, I think it will be a visual tour-de-force. Bloodrayne Based on the XBox game (I like the game, but game based movies are usually rubbish), it has an interesting cast (despite the lead, Kristanna Loken, no matter) which may redeem it with Ben Kingsley, Michael Madsen, Michelle Rodriguez, Billy Zane, Meatloaf (LOL, "Eddie" from Rocky Horror Picture Show is back!!!!) & Udo Kier!!!!!!

"Isn't anyone watching any movies Mij?? David?? Scrap'?? Hello out there..??...."
Yep. i'm always watching movies, the more the merrier. Of those you mention, Play Misty For Me was a pretty solid thriller.
'Mockingbird was an excellent adaptation of what is my favourite book, and the role [ Atticus Finch ] that Gregory Peck was probably born to play. Don't recall much of Jungle Fever i'm afraid, never been much of a Spike Lee fan.
Just seen Hide and Seek at the cinema, quite good horror/thriller, with a superb performance from Dakota Fanning.
Just watched two of my favourite Jane Fonda films again, Comes a Horseman and Coming Home, the latter being the best antiwar movie made in my opinion, and the definitive statement on Vietnam.
"Constantine Despite having Keano Reeves in it, the Hellblazer story is just too fantastic to be totally ruined."
I take it you're a fan of the Vertigo comic series Mij. Hope you're right about Reeves not spoiling it, I can't think of an actor more bland then him i'm afraid. Well maybe Ben Afflick.

I do like Hellblazer though it's not something I read religiously, what I did read religously was Neil Gaiman's Sandman, now that was pure genius. Now if only someone would talk to Mr Gaiman about turning that into a mini-series.... My favourite Jane Fonda films (I think) are Barbarella (LOL) & The China Syndrome

Ever read 100 Bullets, another Vertigo series? Very adult, with extreme violence and language you could cut with a knife, but excellently written by Brian Azzarello and superbly illustrated by Eduardo Risso.
One of the few ongoing series I still read, along with Terry Moore's genius work Strangers in Paradise.

for COMING HOME! I totally agree about the statement it makes against the Vietnam Conflict. I fell in love with Jon Voight in this flic. I have to take my Spike Lee in small doses also. I guess that's why I haven't seen JF..... I haven't seen any new ones at the theatre....can't stand to be confined to that little chair with that many people in a dark place....if I don't see it at the drive-in (where we back the truck in, put our feet up in our lounge chairs & park the cooler between us--I don't see it til it makes video ;D) So... this wkend we rented CELLULAR the worst Kim B. I've EVER seen, COOKOUT no comment, & ALIEN VRS PREDATOR...I liked it!!! Not bad for this kind of follow-up! on the Predator's chakram!!! Hard to pick a fav Fonda film... CAT BALLOU, CHINA SYNDROME....oh, & of course, 9 TO 5....seem to never pass any of these up...

John Voight of your "Coming Home" fame is an interesting actor with far too many movies to his CV to do highlight more than one or two.
And so I will highlight in particular
Deliverance
One of the most awesome movies ever made, directed by John Boorman I think.

Thumbs up to that, outstanding film on which Boorman excelled. Also probably the only film in which i've enjoyed Burt Reynolds.
Deliverance, Coming Home and Michael Mann's Heat i'd name as Voight's best. An excellent actor who never turns in a bad performance.
"ALIEN VRS PREDATOR...I liked it!!! Not bad for this kind of follow-up!"
Glad you liked this one, I decided to give it a pass at the theatre, despite being a huge fan of the first two Alien films and the first Predator, so i'm waiting impatiently for it to get to Foxtel.

I did go see Sky Captain & The World Tomorrow. It was entertaining without ever really capturing me. I'm more intrigued as to how the writer/director, Kerry Conran got this together as his first ever feature film. Now that was a slice of luck!!!!
When a complete DVD pack (commentaries etc. I almost never listen to actor commentaries unless I want to do something else while just half-listen to the film) comes out for it I think I'll get it as the commentaries on how this all came together will be interesting (I hope)

Watched Lost in Translation last night. Didn't have very high hopes for it but was pleasently surprised. It was basically a two person film, so of course it worked or failed on the performances of Bill Murray and Scarlett Johansson, and they both did an excellent job.
Murray's droll persona can wear a bit thin pretty quickly, but was perfectly suited here, and Johansson beautifully underplayed her role as the melancholy Charlotte.

I was never really able to take to Bill Murray, always felt as though (perhaps incorrectly) he was trying to fill the shoes left with the death of John Belushi.

Yep, same with me, he's best taken in small doses I think, but he's perfectly suited in this, and does an excellent job. I'd recommend it without hesitation.

Which version of Army Of Darkness?? The shorter US theatrical or the longer one?? either get my full approval I have this weird thing where I try to keep my mothers mind from being closed to different movies, so I keep her & her husband on their toes with different movies a few nights a week. In the last few days there has been Dog Soldiers FallenShadow Of The VampireGhosts Of The Civil Deadwith the following planned for a bit later in the week PiThe Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her LoverI saw Constantine yesterday. I like the Hellblazer comic, but am not a huge fan of the series (Much prefer The Sandman as my Vertigo DC release). I think this helped me enjoy the film because I knew enough of the premise of Hellblazer to know what was going on from the outset, but not enough to be disappointed by any deviation from the characters established in the comic already etc etc. Plus Hell looked quite interesting And Satan the faith healer!!! LOL.

Good grief, you're not going to subject your poor old Mom and her hubby to "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover" are you.
Seeing the wonderful Helen Mirren in this Greenaway monstrosity made me cringe.

Like I said, keep them on their toes. And Helen Mirren can do no wrong!!!! Greenaway is a director who really know how to use colour in his movies Failing this, I think I will make them watch Dude, Where's My Brain sorry, I mean Car, they'll probably throw me out of the house then... ;D

"Like I said, keep them on their toes." Yeah, but your poor old Mom won't be "on her toes" if she's passed out and lying on the floor now will she? "And Helen Mirren can do no wrong!!!!" Superb actress, and as I said, it really distressed me to see her in this. "Greenaway is a director who really know how to use colour in his movies" Agreed, now if only he would learn how to put a coherent story into his movies as well. It's fine to be different from the mainstream, but this guy is possibly the most self indulgent director I can think of. "Failing this, I think I will make them watch Dude, Where's My Brain sorry, I mean Car, they'll probably throw me out of the house then..." Not seen this one [ thank heavens I think from the trailers i've seen ] but my guess is that if you're still in the house after putting them through The Cook'.. then you'll be pretty safe.

Well, I put my mum & her husband though The Cook, The Thief, His Wife & Her Lover.
They didn't throw me out, LOL.
They sat watching in silence & at the end, said, "that was very weird." & then went to bed, hehe.
I'd forgotten what a superb score that movie has too.
Will see how they take to Pi later on, though they said they wanted to watch a few movies that my aunt had lent them like Day After Tomorrow & other Hollywood standard fair next, hehehe.
But I refuse to let my mothers mind stagnate!!!!!!!

Ok, so I just watched CONSTANTINE....my mind kept wandering off to other things, but I sat thru it. The ending was kinda ho-hum for me......
You two were all over Keanau the other day & I can't say much for his skills, but then I think of his movies, & I like most of them. I love POINT BREAK & DEVIL'S ADVOCATE & I even like SPEED. Can't say I was real impressed with Rachel Wiesz in this one either. Liked her much better in THE MUMMY. I love that movie---the special effects, the scenery in both I & II.....the guy that plays the mummy--what's his name?

I laughed myself stupid at that one And yes, for whatever reason, I often like Keanu's movies, but I think this is inspite of Keanu rather than because of him Point Break, for Lori Petty & Patrick Swayze (& it makes me want to learn how to surf, LOL) The Devils Advocate for Al Pacino. but I thought he was OK in Constantine

Mij....that is too funny 'cause I was thinking the same thing when I was listing K's movies....ok, Swayze....ah, Pacino....yea, Dennis Hopper.... I did love Lucifer's 15 minutes....it was probably the best scene in the movie for me....you right, "he was ok in Constantine". WATERWORLD was on last night.....Mary had not seen it--she really liked it...me too! I always like Costner's movies....ooh, like DRAGONFLY...have you seen that??

Waterworld always cops a hammering for some reason, and although no masterpiece, I think it's better then many give it credit for. Always been a fan of Kev', heck I even liked the Bodyguard, which was another one that got criticised unfairly I thought.
Quite liked Dragonfly, very atmospheric.
After a number of fairly average efforts recently it was good to see him back in top form with the truly outstanding Open Range, a film i'd rate right up there alongside his Oscar winning Dances with Wolves.
