A Matter of Life and Death with David Niven, a good old black and white movie, it's one of those you just can't ignore when it's on, a good old court case but in heaven!
and another one of my favourites is Murder by Death, I just fold up into a ball of laughter when I watch it, guaranteed to lift your spirits if you are feeling a bit down. Mind you I like any film with Peter Sellers in it!

Quite a few fall into that category actually, with the top twp probably being "Working Girl" with Melanie Griffith, and "Trading Places" starring Eddie Murphy when he was actually funny; just watched it again the other day.

I can not ever pass up "The Big Easy". Probably the only movie I've ever really liked Dennis Quaid in - as hot as those steamy New Orleans nights. <fans herself> swooooon.....

I like Dennis Quaid in 'The Day After Tomorrow', bit spooky actually, with regards to the current weather we are getting here!

WAY OUT WEST, an all-time classic. Guaranteed to have you doing the dance and singing the songs. Stan and Ollie could do no wrong.
Evening all, by the way.

Probably doesn't fit into this category exactly as I haven't seen it in ages, but it just popped up on Foxtel the other day and I had a look, "Frankie and Johnny" with Al Pacino and Michelle Pfeiffer.
A rather simple story really but wonderfully told, full of fascinating characters, Al and Michelle in great form, great writing very similar in style to Neil Simon in many ways, the type of film I could watch repeatedly no worries.

You know, kat, I'm not sure if I've ever seen that one. With a cast like that, how in the world did I miss it?? One to put on the list, for sure.

Feel pretty sure you'd like it Siren, full of very witty dialogue, and as you say, a great cast, with the always excellent Hector Elizondo, plus Nathan Lane and Kate Nelligan among others lending great support to the two leads.
Speaking of witty dialogue, another that comes to mind is Neil Simon's "I Ought to be in Pictures" with the excellent Walter Matthau and Ann-Margret outshone onscreen by a knock out first time performance from Dinah Manoff.

What about 'Hostage' with Bruce Willis? That man just gets better and better looking the older he gets!

Vox, I think Bruce hit his peak of sex appeal in his debut film, "Die Hard". But, to each her own. He's adorable, nonetheless!
Add this movie to my list: "Urban Cowboy". It helps that I'm from the southwest, where people and situations like those in the movie are commonplace. I know many people who are just like "Bud & Sissy", and know of bars very much like Gilley's. That movie is amazingly realistic about those people and that lifestyle, and I never cease to be entertained by it. I'll watch it from the beginning, the end, or anywhere in the middle, even if only for a few minutes.
Movie trivia: the roles of Bud and Sissy were originally to be played by Dennis Quaid and Michelle Pfeiffer. The movie producer thought Debra Winger wasn't pretty enough for the role of Sissy.

Speaking of King Arthur....
"Excalibur" is one I try to catch whenever it's one television.

"The Man In The Moon" is one I can turn to when I want a good cry - you know, the therapeutic kind of cry women enjoy, which men don't understand? Even at 14-ish, Reese Witherspoon's star power was evident. Terrific performance from her. But it's a mystery that Gail Strickland, who played Reese's big sister, didn't have more of a career. She was just perfect in that film.

I've wondered that myself about the actress who played the older sister (Emily Warfield). And then you have famous people who really shouldn't be in the limelight and you wonder, "What's up with that?" Go figure.

A League of Their Own.
I always well up at certain points in this movie, especially during the last fifteen minutes or so, when the welling becomes one continual stream of tears. It was on television tonight, but I missed the first half hour. There was an "encore showing" right after, though, so I was able to catch the part I missed.
Sigh. Right now comes the part where my continual stream starts. I can't do this again in the same night....I must not watch. I - will - not - watch.
Oh hell, pass the tissues again. I'll see you in the morning.

Here ya go, Gams. *passing tissues* That's a good one, for sure. The ending always gets to me.
One of my "can't miss it" favorites is on right now: "True Grit".

BTW, Gams, I agree with you on "The Big Easy". What a very entertaining, funny, sexy movie! And Dennis....mmm, mmm, mmm - he has that irresistable bad boy appeal!
Another on my list of "can't resist" films was on today - "Bull Durham". It's one of those movies you wish you lived in. Kevin and Susan were so sexy together, and they were both at their peak of beauty. But Kevin was coasting on his sex appeal in that movie. The man just can't act, IMO.
