Freedom Writers
I have more, but I'm drawing a blank now. Freedom Writers is on right now, and I've seen it over a dozen times, so it gave me the idea for this thread.

"Brian's Song" - one of the all-time great tearjerkers. Besides, it's about great Chicago Bears of the past. What's not to love? "Born Free"

Lord of the Rings ........................... what, who say's it's not, I'm pretty sure it is. Some good films listed there, I'll try thinking of some more later .... Carve Her Name With Pride. That was quick.

I don't think I've ever heard of that movie. I'll have to look it up.

I believe the movie "Jacob the Liar" is a movie based on real events.
One I know is loosely based on real events is the movie Amistad. Amazing movie that brings me to tears every time I watch it.

I'm sure it was in theaters when it first came out. Most of the ones I posted I watched on Satellite or DVD.

If anyone ever has a chance to watch Jacob the Liar, please do. It is not a well known movie. It stars my personal hero and favorite actor, Robin Williams. www.imdb.com/title/tt0120716/I think it is based on a true story, but I am not totally sure on that point. It takes place in WW2 Germany and it deals with the Holocaust. But it trys to do so with a certain type of humor. It never degrades the experience of the Jews though, so it is not offensive.
