Saw your post in the "What Food Is Stuck In Your Teeth?" thread and almost commented there, but thought this might make a cool new game, so started a new thread.

You didn't get to sleep in on your day off? That's sad!
Two cures for cramps... Pickle juice: As with mustard, coaches have given pickle juice to their athletes with leg cramps. Cramps are sometimes caused by a deficiency in acetylcholine, the neurotransmitter that stimulates your muscles to work. Pickle juice has acetic acid, which helps the body make more acetylcholine. Take a few ounces of pickle juice.
Quinine/tonic water: Drinking four to eight ounces of tonic water (make sure it has quinine in it!) an hour before going to bed is a very effective remedy for most people. If it is too tart for you, add some lemon for flavoring. You should notice a difference within a few days, otherwise discontinue. OTC quinine was banned by the FDA because of health risks, but there is enough quinine in tonic water to help most people. See the Hyland's homeopathic remedy below for another similar option.
Sorry - they don't say soaking in pickle juice does anything except make everyone around you hungry for burgers. I have no comment about what happens if the other half mistakes you for the burger. Nope. Not me. I'm not saying nuttin.
You didn't get to sleep in on your day off? That's sad!
Yes, yes...I lead a sad, sad life. Another day off today, and I was up at 6:00 this morning.
Thanks for the pickle juice information, Stepper. Sometimes if it's hot at work, I get home and my muscles are achy and crampy, and I know I haven't drank enough water during the day. Hey, if it helps, I'd be willing to take a swig of pickle juice (although drinking pickle juice sounds just as weird as bathing in it. I wonder what the Vlassic hangover cure would be?).
I must be weird because....
I'm fascinated by abandoned amusement parks.
That's not weird, Siren - it's just creepy! It reminds me of the climax in the movie "Zombie Land"....or old Scooby Doo cartoons - I think a number of them took place in adbandoned amusement parks.
Very, very cool photos on the link! Talk about creepy - some of those pictures are nightmare fodder. It amazes me that such places could just be left standing, to eventually decay. We've got a tiny amusement park here that was abandoned - nothing major, just bumper cars, bumper boats and a go-cart track. It was quite the busy place in summer just a few years ago, and kinda sad to see it left to ruin now. I'll have to take a little drive soon, and get some pictures to post.
I don't drink it all the time. But every once in a great while I do. It's something I saw Dad do from time to time. (Of course, he'd eat pickled pigs feet on occasion too, but I never picked up that habit from him. After the feet were gone, he'd boil eggs and plop them into the jar of leftover juice to eat once they'd soaked up the flavor. [puke])
"After the feet were gone, he'd boil eggs and plop them into the jar of leftover juice to eat once they'd soaked up the flavor."
In a story we tell in horrified tones to this day, my dad once ate Vienna sausages, then poured milk into the can and drank the greasy mixture. To this day, it's the most astonishing gustatory feat I have every witnessed. But I gotta say, Jox, your Dad's "eggs with pig's feet sauce" is a contender. ;D

Oh, I'm with you, Gams. The pics from the New Orleans Six Flags, especially, are creepy deluxe. And it's one thing to see them online, and another to see those sights in person. I bet it would be a really scary place to visit.

Cool pictures! I wish I had the chance to take them. I hadn't considered amusement parks, but I've always though it'd be interesting to visit a couple of ghost towns and look for the why. Why were they abandoned? When? What's left? What can you find with a metal detector? Did they leave a cemetary behind and if so, what were the dates?
Sort of like exploring the Haunted House ride after the park was closed huh.
Eeeew to both your dads' choices of gustatory feats...or in Joxie's dad's case, gustatory feets!
I must be weird because I got a thrill out of poking around taking pictures at the closed "Fun Park" here - thrilled because we were trespassing and it kind of had the element of danger. I took LX with me just in case. In case of what, I'm not sure. I told her if we got caught to tell whomever caught us that she was taking pictures for a school project.
Uhm, Mom....school's been out for two weeks.
Just say you're getting an early start.
I was going to stay outside the fence, but LX found this way in, squeezing through a break in the fence. Of course, I followed.
Not nearly as creepy as a big amusement park, I know, but it was weird the way everything was just left there. It's as if it just all suddenly stopped one day in mid-operation. It'd be a cool place for a Halloween party.
Okay. I'm jealous now. But you're right about weird. The cars were just left there in the track? They didn't close up for winter and stow things away? Could you enter any of the buildings or were they locked up?

I thought it was really strange too, that the cars were left out on the track. At least the bumper boats were taken out of the water, and lined up against the fence.....or maybe the bumper boat pool critters who've taken over the pool threw them there. Who knows what's living in those murky, stagnant waters. We saw tadpoles as big around as a half-dollar.
Shoot! It didn't occur to us to even try any of the doors. HA! I've seen enough freaky movies to know better. If there are monstrous tadpoles living outside the buildings, waiting to turn into even more monstrous frogs, I can only imagine what's taken up residence inside! One of those rabid clowns, I'm sure. In the least, probably something neither LX or I want to meet up with unarmed.
Those are super pics, Gams! Thank you so much! You're right - would be a fun, creepy place for a Halloween carnival or party. My favorite detail is the grass and weeds growing through the crack in the racetrack. It almost looks like the car is crossing a finish line, of sorts.
Here's an idea: they may HAVE stowed the cars, and then someone else got them out again, and ran them until all the gasoline was gone.
I may have shared this link before, but here are pics from what's left of Dogpatch USA, a now-defunct theme park, based on an old comic strip. When I was a kid, it was a big deal in the Arkansas/Missouri/Oklahoma area. Definitely fell on hard times, though.
Years ago, my mom and I took a road trip to Branson, Missouri, avoiding the interstate in favor of a long and winding state highway. Took forever to get there, but we saw all sorts of interesting sights and little towns that you don't get to see from the interstate. Among them were the sun-bleached and rain-warped remnants of a carnival of some kind. Looked like the sort of booths you see at a medieval fair, almost covered over in vines and weeds and undergrowth. Terribly interesting to me. Makes me SO mad that I didn't stop for pictures.
Thank you, Gams, for taking the time, and for the trouble you took to post them here.
Dogpatch would have had several buildings - it was "the" place to play for a while. Do you know if they still have some of the structures around or have they been razed?

You're right! Cool observation, Siren.

That very well could be what happened. There were only two on the track, and they had many more than that when the place was opened. I'm surprised the bumper boats are still leaning up against the fence, and not in the pool.

I love those kinds of trips! When Scrappy came to visit, one of her goals during the drive was to see all those tourist-trappy type places along the way.
Unfortunately when driving, you usually don't have time to stop and see everything that looks interesting. Bummer you missed out on the abandoned carnival; it sounds very interesting.
Thank you, Gams, for taking the time, and for the trouble you took to post them here.
No trouble at all, Siren. It was fun, and it rekindled a kind of interest I had when we were kids. On camping trips, my Dad would pile us in the vehicle (usually a Suburban; it seemed Dad always had a Suburban), and we'd drive country backroads - really, really far off the beaten path. Sometimes we'd end up down two-tracks so narrow, he'd have to back up the Suburban for a mile or so, just to find a place to turn around. Abandoned houses were what we were searching for, just to go through for fun. Like the amusement parks in this thread, I always wondered why someone would just leave a house to fall to ruin.
Thanks for the Dogpatch link. Some of the pictures are beautiful, some sad, and some are very creepy. The trash-sucker things, though, are bizarre! Even when in operation, they would have been just plain weird.
I was so busy looking at the picture that I didn't notice the link for the pictures which were exactly what I was asking about. Duh.
My weirdness today was that it dawned on me that now that I've got the new to me computer I might be able to play that darned game from last year's Christmas festivities. Turns out that I might have been able to play the game if I had been patient enough to let the thing load. My ISP is still dial up and it took it a long time to start up, but I finally got to play the thing. I clicked the link in Scrappy's original thread and it took me to the game, but I had to do some kind of surgery thing and then it took me to reconstructing one of the reindeer. I got through both and had a score 140,000+, but then I could not for the life of me figure out how to even start the third level of the game. Really. It's a game, and I couldn't get anything to happen. How many people go to a game web site and then can't even start the frelling game??
The Elf was a bit of a challenge huh. It took me several attempts before I got the sequence figured out. Once I got inside it still took several more attempts before it started coming together. Did you get to the internal parts or were you still trying to find a way in?
I couldn't get the pole jammed into the deer's back end.
I may have stumbled on to the trick by accident - didn't have any problems with that one. After I put the new nose in, I fairy dusted it, zapped it with the electric thing, and fairy dusted it again. After that the pole was easy - went right in - more zapping and I might have done more dusting but that ended the round and took me to Santa in a block of ice. I made no progress from then on.
Oh, I would so fix up that old millhouse, and live in it! There, in the beautiful Ozarks, it would be an awesome way to live.
Looks like it may get fixed up. One of the links had an update that was talking about new owners who have already started cleaning the place up - they even said they had pictures of what's been accomplished so far.
Nose? I don't remember no [stinkin'] nose. Maybe that's why the pole refused to go in. It's been so long since I played it though, so maybe I did fix the nose ... just didn't think to shock it and dust it again.
Ooh. Phalon. I got frustrated with the elf and just started cutting him up all over, and found some hidden stuff to fix. Didn't share at the time cause you were on the other team.

Here's how I remember it working... Pull out the four things sticking throught the skin and place each in the tray. Pulling one of the tree limbs exposes a wire - leave that alone. During all the procedures you'll have a little blood to deal with. Before switching to tape use the leaf blower to pick it up - you'll need it later. The other three wounds - tape them all closed which takes 5 or 6 hits of tape - burn each closed - then fairy dust the heck out of them. At each step when the game is happy with you it'll put up a quick green notice and say good job or something. When all three are healed, use the electric thingy on the exposed wire. Four more spots will show up on the skin. Get the knife and cut each one open. That exposes light bulbs. Use the knife on the yellow dashes around the light bulbs to cut them free. Switch to the extraction tool and pull out all of the light bulbs. Do the healing process again, and do the leaf blower again. When done, a yellow line appears on the chest. Grab the knife and open the chest. At that point the scene changes and you are inside the chest. Put out fires using the leaf blower. Get the grab tool and snag the wiring on the left - put in tray. Pull the tree limb on the lower left. Heal the tree limb wound and while you have it out fairy dust any "splotches" that have appeared. Using the knife, cut along the yellow line that appeared when you removed the wiring on the left side of the chest. Any time they appear, put out fires. Get the grab tool and remove wiring from center chest, then right side chest. Then remove the broken ornaments - go through the healing process for open wounds and fairy dust the splotches again. When the splotches are gone, the scene goes back to the outside of the chest. Now you can pull the wire; then close both of the open wounds and heal them. Elf is healed and that moves you to reconstructing deer that were sucked into the jet engine. It took me many attempts before I got the sequence and timing right.
I never even take the top sheet out of the package when I buy new sheets. I don't like sleeping under a sheet & then my favorite "old & very worn" comforter, so I just use the fitted sheet. When the seasons change I have my favorite blankets in varying degrees of thickness that go on top of my comforter, but nothing ever comes between us!
"There are people you meet, who move in and out of your life, like ghosts-- and after they're gone, you find that they've left a part of themselves with you.
I don't mind a sheet at all, but I got used to the wonderfully soft throw blankets. They're almost always a tad too small, but I used them instead of the sheet - or blankets.
