I'm sorry about your family's loss, Joxie. And I know it's difficult not to relate your Mom's cousin's death with your Mom's illness. Every case is different though, and how one person's body and mind copes with disease is not necessarily the same how the next person's will react.
As far as time-frame prognosis goes; you can't put too much thought into it. No one can say for certain what a person's life-span will be, and dwelling on a number can cause someone to miss out on a whole lot of living in the meantime.

Thanks Phalon. I don't dwell on the 10 year prediction, kind of why I didn't ask when she was told this. I don't want to calculate the exact year this is supposed to occur. And I know that some people live longer than thought, and some die sooner. As the cancer commercial says, there's no expiration date stamped on the bottom of anyone's foot. (Not yet anyway.)

You are a strange individual, Stepper.
Just kidding, of course, but Sheesh! Christmas?

If you're kidding, you don't know me as well as you think you do. "Strange" is one of my most redeaming qualities - especially since I don't have any others. And just to say this, I stopped in th BX on the way home this evening and - for real - they have an "Early Christmas" ad for a sale starting the weekend after 4th of July. It's probably just some stuff they had trouble selling last Christmas - but the ads are beginning. I suspect that sometime soon the Christmas sales will start in January, or right after Valentine's Day at the latest.

It seems that Mom's Wegener's Granulomatosis may be back. She's so tired that getting out of bed wears her out. They gave her four bouts of iron intravenously, and she still has no strength built back up. So she had them check for the WG, and today she started taking a med that they always give her to get the WG in remission. She hasn't had a chance to discuss it with the doctor yet. She has an appointment, but he didn't want her to wait until then to begin the meds. So, we're assuming he's going to tell her the WG is indeed back. My aunt died of it. It had returned, and they hadn't caught it before it had time to do its damage.
I told Mom she needs to do a test once or twice a year to stay on top of it. At this rate I'm not sure she even has 10 years. My uncle died of cancer last week. He had been married to the aunt that had died of WG. It won't be long and my sister, cousins and I will be the oldest living generation. Cancer seems to be the biggest killer of the family. Oh, well. The world ends in December anyways. At least I'll get to see 'Breaking Dawn' part II before then. I can go out a happy, happy Twilighter.

Oh, sorry to hear about your Mom, Joxie. Keeping fingers crossed that they caught this bout soon enough so that her recovery isn't as difficult as in previous times.
Sorry too about your uncle. Hugs.

As you'll remember from posts earlier in this thread, I said Christmas was starting earlier and earlier. When I stopped to get some Easter cards the other day, the store gave me a copy of the 2012 Christmas ornament collection so I could place my order as early as I wanted. Maybe next year they won't wait so long and they'll have it out in time for Valentines Day. Sorry to hear that your mom is having trouble again Joxee. I'm surprised they don't have something she can take daily to help prevent reoccurrences. And your uncle died too - it just hasnt' been a good couple of weeks for you.

They don't know much about WG at the moment to really know how to prevent it, or even eradicate it completely. One thing is that it bounces back from remission much more often than it used to. It's come back almost every year since Mom came down with it. My Aunt got it years ago, and I think it came back once, then she went years before it popped back up again. Unfortunately, it did its damage before anyone realized it had reared its ugly head again this last time.
Usually, Mom knows when her wrist goes to hurting that the WG is back. But her wrist wasn't bothering her this time. She just couldn't get any energy built up, even when they gave her 4 bouts of iron. She just kept getting weaker and weaker. Her eyes have been bothering her a lot these last few weeks, so she's going to have them checked. The first time she got WG she had a wart-like nub next to one of her eyes and it turned out to be one of the signs of WG. So we think it must have stated attacking there instead of her lungs and kidneys this time ... and whatever causes her wrist to ache.
Thanks, everyone. It's nice to come here and vent.

A question for FBM...what happened to the 't'? I just realized that 'out' wasn't out because it is without its 't', see?

Proboards has a set limit of characters that can go into a thread title. Once that limit has been reached, what's leftover gets cut off.

Oh great. I've been posting all this time and only now noticed that on these pages it's missing. So much for observational skills.

Just so that she can mess with me, Steppet has refused to sign the return until this evening. BIG sigh - I'm one of those people who likes to have things done well in advance of the due date. Waiting makes me nuts.

Fortunately, we have $$ coming to us. So do we but it's gone already. We had to pay to have a couple of trees removed.

Were you able to save them for firewood? Phalon made Christmas presents out of some gorgeous cuts from a tree not so long ago. I don’t remember the whole story, but I have to confess to being a tad jealous of who ever received the finished pieces; they were very attractive. I wouldn’t tell her of course, but sometimes she’s got more than her fair share of talent.

We had a Sweet Gum tree that we were afraid was going to fall on our house, a Red Maple that was dying and was also leaning towards the house, and a Pin Oak that was cut down by mistake. We had the Oak and the Maple cut into 18-22" lengths so it would fit into a fireplace and I've been telling the neighbors who own fireplaces they can help themselves from the stack.
The Gum tree was hauled away.

Taxes: they most certainly make me want to pull out my hair, and I don't even do them! Hubs does, and because he's pulling his hair out, and grrr-ing while doing it, we all end up pulling out our hair. But sigh - he gets it done, and we got our returns back a couple of weeks ago so I shouldn't complain too much.
Dang, Spock! I think I'd be devastated if we lost three of our trees - especially if one was cut down by mistake!
Thanks for not telling me, Stepper....but thanks. I can't say that I agree with the talent thing, but if I ever run across interestingly-shaped wood again, I'll most definitely send a chunk of it your way.

Hey! You peeked!
Please, don't give her any ideas. Although, I have to admit the first thing I thought of was "splinter". That was followed by saw dust. You can never tell what it'll be.
