Sidewalk Annie She told you about it through a broken bleeding windpipe It shook your bones and made your life feel skintight Well, Sidewalk Annie Now your coattails have come undone Your whisper's a scream now Since you don't speak to anyone The howlin' winds could never care what she liked Rhythm and Blues or A Stranger In The Night It tore up the trailer with the sounds of a howlin' wolf The cellar was stone, even the garden was bulletproof Well, Sidewalk Annie Now your coattails have come undone Your whisper's a scream now Since you don't speak to anyone Little girl in your white ice skates We've seen your face walkin' around the old school gates With a hand on your hip and the other one on your head You realized it wasn't gone, but lost instead Sidewalk Annie Now your coattails have come undone Your whisper's a scream now Since you don't speak to anyone Invested a nickel into the banks of a wishing well And blew out the candles and hoped for somethin' that she could, she could sell Sidewalk Annie Now your coattails have come undone Your whisper's a scream now Since you don't speak to anyone The Wallflowers. next word: scream Maeve

Lots of songs come to mind with the word "scream" in them; songs sung by bands I like much better than Creed. But this one has always reminded me of Xena in "Ides of March", and was the first thing that came to mind here.
"My Own Prison" ~ Creed
A court is in session, a verdict is in No appeal on the docket today Just my own sin The walls are cold and pale The cage made of steel Screams fill the room Alone I drop and kneel Silence now the sound My breath the only motion around Demons cluttering around My face showing no emotion Shackled by my sentence Expecting no return Here there is no penance My skin begins to burn
(And I said oh) So I held my head up high Hiding hate that burns inside Which only fuels their selfish pride (And I said oh) We're all held captive Out from the sun A sun that shines on only some We the meek are all in one
I hear a thunder in the distance See a vision of a cross I feel the pain that was given On that sad day of loss A lion roars in the darkness Only he holds the key A light to free me from my burden And grant me life eternally
Should have been dead On a Sunday morning Banging my head No time for mourning Ain't got no time
(And I said oh) So I held my head up high Hiding hate that burns inside Which only fuels their selfish pride (And I said oh) We're all held captive Out from the sun A sun that shines on only some We the meek are all in one
I cry out to God Seeking only his decision Gabriel stands and confirms I've created my own prison I cry out to God Seeking only his decision Gabriel stands and confirms I've created my own prison
(And I said oh) So I held my head up high Hiding hate that burns inside Which only fuels their selfish pride (And I said oh) We're all held captive Out from the sun A sun that shines on only some We the meek are all in one
(And I said oh) So I held my head up high Hiding hate that burns inside Which only fuels their selfish pride (And I said oh) We're all held captive Out from the sun A sun that shines on only some We the meek are all in one
Should've been dead on a Sunday morning banging my head No time for mourning Ain't got no time

I'm just an old chunk of coal, But I'm gonna be a diamond some day I'm gonna grow and glow 'til I'm so blue, pure and perfect, I'm gonna put a smile on everybody's face. I'm gonna KNEEL and pray every day, Lest I should become vain along the way. I'm just an old chunk of coal now Lord, But I'm gonna be a DIAMOND some day.

An oldie...
"As they pulled you out of the oxygen tent You asked for the latest party
With your silicone hump and your ten inch stump Dressed like a priest you was Todd Browning's freak you was
Crawling down the alley on your hands and knee I'm sure you're not protected, for it's plain to see The Diamond Dogs are poachers and they hide behind trees Hunt you to the ground they will, mannequins with kill appeal
(Will they come?) I'll keep a friend serene (Will they come?) Oh baby, come unto me (Will they come?) Well, she's come, been and gone.
Come out of the garden, baby You'll catch your death in the fog Young girl, they call them the Diamond Dogs
The Halloween Jack is a real cool cat And he lives on top of Manhattan Chase
The elevator's broke, so he slides down a rope Onto the street below, oh Tarzie, go man go
Meet his little hussy with his ghost town approach Her face is sans feature, but she wears a Dali brooch Sweetly reminiscent, something mother used to bake
Wrecked up and paralyzed, Diamond Dogs are sableized
(Will they come?) I'll keep a friend serene (Will they come?) Oh baby, come unto me (Will they come?) Well, she's come, been and gone.
In the year of the scavenger, the season of the bitch Sashay on the boardwalk, scurry to the Ditch Just another future song, lonely little kitsch (There's gonna be sorrow) try and wake up tomorrow
(Will they come?) I'll keep a friend serene (Will they come?) Oh baby, come unto me (Will they come?) Well, she's come, been and gone.
Ooh, call them the Diamond Dogs Ooh, call them the Diamond Dogs Bow-wow, woof woof, bow-wow, wow Call them the Diamond Dogs
Keep cool - Diamond Dogs rule, OK Beware of the Diamond Dogs Keep cool - Diamond Dogs rule, OK Beware of the Diamond Dogs
"Diamond Dogs" ~ David Bowie

I've walked these streets In a spectacle of wealth & poverty In the diamond market The scarlet welcome carpet That they just rolled out for me I've walked these streets In the mad house asylum They can be Where a wild eyed misfit prophet On a traffic island stopped And he raved of saving me Have I been blind Have I been lost Inside myself and My own mind Hypnotized Mesmerized By what my eyes have seen? THE CLASSICS IV "Traces"
Faded photograph Covered now with lines and creases Tickets torn in half Memories in bits and pieces Traces of love long ago That didn't work out right Traces of love
Ribbons from her hair Souvenirs of days together The ring he used to wear Pages from an old love letter Traces of love long ago That didn't work out right Traces of love With me tonight
I close my eyes and say a prayer That in her heart she'll find A trace of love still there Somewhere, ooooh, oh
Traces of hope in the night that she'll come back and dry These traces of tears From my eyes Whoooa, oooh, oh, oooh next word: souvenirs

Sting's Twenty Five to Midnight
Train I ride don't be slow If your whistle can blow Fifteen miles down the track Tell them I'm coming back Counting poles counting sheep Don't be slow I won't weep If your wheels on the line Were to put me on time
Just a year to the day Since I went upon my way To seek my fortune and fame Be a star, change my name And that's it more or less 'Til this midnight express I know I can't be late 'Cause she said she won't wait She'll just go marry Jack So there's no turning back And it's 25 to midnight And fifteen miles of track
Band I had got a break Just one chance we had to take Told my girl I'd be back Left her with my friend Jack New York City for a spell Things didn't turn out so well Every dive that we played We were lucky we got paid
Mr. Train driver please If your speed you increase Every cent I have now Will be yours this I vow And that's it more or less 'Til this midnight express I know I can't be late 'Cause she said she won't wait She'll just go marry Jack So there's no turning back And it's 25 to midnight And fifteen miles of track
We called ourselves The Latino Lovers Hawaiian shirts and top forty covers I didn't think I could sink this low When drugs and booze ate all my dough This isn't how it was meant to be There's no such thing as a meal that's free If I was ever to get out alive I have to get home on time
Train I ride don't be slow If your whistle can blow Fifteen miles down the track Tell them I'm coming back And that's it more or less 'Til this midnight express I know I can't be late 'Cause she said she won't wait She'll just go marry Jack So there's no turning back And it's 25 to midnight And fifteen miles of track And it's 25 to midnight And fifteen miles of track

Lakota
I am Lakota! Lakota! Looking at money man Diggin' the deadly quotas Out of balance Out of hand We want the land! Lay down the reeking ore Don't you hear the shrieking in the trees? Everywhere you touch the earth she's sore Every time you skin her all things weep Your money mocks us Restitution what good can it do? Kennelled in metered boxes Red dogs in debt to you
I am Lakota! Lakota! Fighting among ourselves All we can say with one whole heart Is we won't sell No we'll never sell We want the land! The lonely coyote calls In the woodlands footprints of the deer In the barrooms poor drunk bastard falls In the courtrooms deaf ears sixty years You think we're sleeping but Quietly like rattlesnakes and stars We have seen the trampled rainbows In the smoke of cars
I am Lakota Brave Sun pity me I am Lakota Broken Moon pity me I am Lakota Grave Shadows stretching Lakota Oh pity me I am Lakota Weak Grass pity me I am Lakota Faithful Rocks pity me I am Lakota Meek Standing water Lakota Oh pity me
I am Lakota! Lakota! Standing on sacred land We never sold these Black Hills To the missile heads To the power plants We want the land! The bullet and the fence broke Lakota The black coats and the booze broke Lakota Courts that circumvent choke Lakota Nothing left to lose Tell me grandfather You spoke the fur and feather tongues Do you hear the whimpering waters When the tractors come?
Sun pity me Mother earth Mother Moon pity me Father sky Father Shadows Stretching on the forest floor Mother earth Oh pity me Father sky Father Grass pity me Mother earth Mother Rocks pity me Father sky Father Water Standing in a wakan manner Mother earth Oh pity me

Kelly Clarkson : Behind These Hazel Eyes
Seems like just yesterday You were a part of me I used to stand so tall I used to be so strong Your arms around me tight Everything it felt so right Unbreakable like nothing could go wrong
Now I can't breathe No I can't sleep I'm barely hanging on
Here I am Once again I'm torn into pieces Can't deny it Can't pretend Just thought you were the one Broken up deep inside But you won't get to see those tears I cry Behind these hazel eyes
I told you everything Opened up and let you in You made me feel alright for once in my life Now all that's left of me Is what I pretend to be So together but so broken up inside
Cause I can't breathe No, I can't sleep I'm barely hanging on
Here I am Once again I'm torn into pieces Can't deny it Can't pretend Just thought you were the one Broken up deep inside But you won't get to see those tears I cry Behind these hazel eyes
Swallow me then spit me out For hating you, I blame myself Just seeing you it kills me now Now I don't cry On the outside... anymore!!!

Ohio
CSN&Y lyrics by Neil Young
Tin soldiers and Nixon coming, We're finally on our own. This summer I hear the drumming, Four dead in Ohio.
Gotta get down to it Soldiers are gunning us down Should have been done long ago. What if you knew her And found her dead on the ground How can you run when you know?
Gotta get down to it Soldiers are gunning us down Should have been done long ago. What if you knew her And found her dead on the ground How can you run when you know?
