Phalon: What kinds of events do they have each year? I'm reworking a children's story I wrote ages ago for a course I took, and I need to know what kinds of contests there are so that I can use them.
Here's what I put in the original drafts:
Blueberry Pie Contest - My character entered his mother's pie in this. Blueberry Jam Contest Blueberry Muffin Contest Blueberry Pancake Contest Blueberry Funnel Cake Contest Blueberry Cookie Contest Blueberry Waffle Contest
My character entered these:
Fastest Blueberry Pie Eater Contest Biggest Blueberry Appetite Contest
I was thinking of adding:
Guess The Number Of Blueberries In The Jar Contest
So, what others are there I might could use? And are there such contests as the ones I've created for the story?

Shoot, Joxie - I just saw this. Hhmmmm....I think you covered all the blueberry contests there would be; ours has most of these, but since we live at the beach, it also has sandcastle and sculpture contests. There is live music, small carnival rides, an outdoor antique fair, art fair, sidewalk sales, pancake breakfasts, and a parade, always ending with the big blueberry harvesters, (huge roving mechanical beasts).
Blueberry wine. Oh, and blueberry/vodka jello shots. Though those aren't much help for a children's book.
Little Miss and Mister Blueberry are always crowned.
Think any small town festival and you've got it covered. Just center everything around blueberries.
The ones you mentioned - we have a lot of them. Blueberry baking contests and pie-eating contests; I've never entered either - go figure.

I googled and saw the pancake breakfast.
I was thinking maybe a race. Kind of like the spoon and water/egg race, only with blueberries. To make it harder I thought I have the rules be the runner has to put the spoon in his mouth and use it to scoop up blueberries and then run a distance to drop them into a bowl. And the one who wins is the first to get all their blueberries from the basket at one end to the bowl at the other. I don't know why I want my character to win 3 blue ribbons. Two is fine I suppose.

The race sounds like a good idea; fun actually. Where's the sign-up sheet?

Suggest the race to whomever sets up the festival activities.
