That was another case of John Wayne casting a hot young star of the moment in his latest movie. Just part of the reason The Duke's films were so popular.
Connie Allanbury (the one and only Myrna Loy), an heiress who's the target of tabloid reporter (Spencer Tracy) in "Libeled Lady" (1936). He arranges for a con man (William Powell) and his own girlfriend (Jean Harlow) to put Connie in a compromising position.
What a cast! Good movie.

Ooooo, she sounds like an interesting character, Siren.
Fred Gailey from "Miracle on 34th Street".
Believe it or not, I just watched this movie (the 1947 version) for the first time a couple of nights ago, although I've seen clips here and there through the years. What a great story!

Nooo, I remember watching Robert Stack on "Unsolved Mysteries". Boy do I remember. I had a terrible crush on him then, much to the amusement of my sisters. I'm doing the math here, and when "Unsolved Mysteries" debuted, Robert was already in his late 60s. I was in my early 20s. Didn't matter a bit. I tuned in every week, and sighed over his every appearance. I loved his voice, his stoic good looks, the trench coat. On one episode, I squealed when Robert actually smiled. Smiled! My sis called me and said she had been watching, and when Robert smiled, she laughed to my other sister, "Oh my gosh, Robert smiled and showed his teeth! I bet Siren is having a heart attack!" Lol Heck, I *still* have a crush on Robert.
