Dead Poets Society
The name "Carousel" reminded me of an old black and white horror movie I saw; in the nearly last scene a woman is surrounded ghoulish figures at a carousel. Not able to remember the name, it was bugging me, so I had to do a 2 minute drill - which turned into about a 10-15 minute drill. I finally found it - and found not only could I not remember the movie's name, but didn't remember the setting either. There was no carousel; it was a pavilion, and the title of the movie is "Carnival of Souls".
It's no wonder why I don't get anything done lately; I get sidetracked too easily.

The scene I remember is where he explains to the overwhelmed LtCol what the Sergeant had said about him. Quo Vadis - which included Sophia Loren as an uncredited extra.

"Star Dust" (1940) in which Linda Darnell, at age 17, basically played herself - a young girl who lies about her age to get a shot at stardom. Legend has it that Linda, years past her success, was watching "Star Dust" on the Late Show when she fell asleep with a cigarette in her hand. She died of burns received in that fire, age 41.

The War of the Worlds was performed as a Halloween radio show on October 30, 1938. It aired over the Columbia Broadcasting System radio network and was directed and narrated by Orson Wells. The first two thirds of the radio show was broad cast in a "new report" format as if the regular radio programs was being interupted. There are disagreements about how much real painc there was resulting from the show, but it certainly scared a remarkable number of people. It was eventually made into two movies.

The Year of Living Dangerously Such a sexy, captivating film. And I think Mel was never yummier. He and Sigourney were smoking hot together. ++++++++ All That Heaven Allows (1955) - Jane Wyman & Rock Hudson - "An upper-class widow falls in love with a much younger, down-to-earth nurseryman, much to the disapproval of her children and criticism of her country club peers." (synopsis by imdb.com) www.imdb.com/title/tt0047811/

Babes In Toyland - When I was younger I used to giggle about the title. Annette Funicello was certainly a babe (the babe of her time), but the version I remember best is the 1934 B&W version with Stan and Ollie. It was only on TV once a year and if you missed it, it was the next holiday season before you'd be able to see it again.
It was a time when specials were special.

" Dangerous" (1935) - starring Bette Davis and Franchot Tone (who later married Joan Crawford). "An alcoholic actress considered a dangerous jinx is rehabilitated but shows she's as dangerous as ever." (recap by imdb.com) www.imdb.com/title/tt0026261/++++++++++ "It was a time when specials were special." Well put, Step. I remember those days - holiday specials (which I still love), "Hallmark Hall Of Fame", awards shows (before almost every network made up an award to give away).
