Finally! What a relief to finally get one. Thanks, Mia! "Underworld" would be a good choice for Halloween viewing. I'll have to get that out.
Let's go 70s old-school with this one...
I'm a US ambassador
My wife and I adopt a child
We realize something's very wrong when a mysterious governess suddenly appears, a large black dog guards our child, the child becomes hysterical when near a church, and people around us come to horrible ends.

If I'm not mistaken you would be the character played by Gregory Peck [ can't remember your name ] in .............
The Omen.

Right, in keeping with the Halloween spirit .............
I am a young woman happy and in love, having just moved into a new apartment with my devoted husband, and expecting my first child; however my idyllic life slowly begins to unravel and I am plunged into a nightmare of suspicion and fear, suspicion of all those around me, including my husband, and fear for my unborn baby.

Correctamundo XV, not bad for a non horror fan.
Your turn, and don't forget, you're also "it" on the tv thread as well.

O.K. Kat
You're right with your guess that it's an occupant of the Briny blue, and her point, and she does have one.... is that she has a really dud memory.
A bit like me, in way too many ways. lol

Right, I'm thinking you just may be the character played by "California Mountain Snake" aka Daryl Hannah, in the film ........ Splash?

Great film! God i loved John Candy, he was such a sweet man. I knew him in Toronto as my cousin was heavily involved with the Second City comedy group.
But I'm afraid a mermaid is far more "real" than my character.
Not only does she reside in the briny blue, she is blue herself, and her ever new (cause she keeps forgetting him) friend and his son are orange.... mostly.

Very funny man, and one who gave the impression that he was exactly the same off screen as on, just a really nice, amiable bloke.
Afraid I have to cry uncle on this one XV, the more clues I get, the further from an answer I am.

Hehe as I said in the T.V thread, guess I double whammied you.
Hope I didn't break any rules, but it was the cartoon character Dory from Finding Nemo, voiced by Ellen Degeneres.
Ok. Let's try this again.
I'm incredibly successful in my career, but not so successful in my personal life as I am divorced and have one child. My whole world was turned upside down when I found that one day I was complete unable to use the single most important and successful skill that my job required. I later disovered that this had happened because of something my son did.
Who am I?

What can I say XV, I'm just good ................... and very modest as well. ;D Not really sure how I got that one, your excellent clues I think.
Okay, this should be fairly easy .....................
As a young boy I saw my village destroyed and my parents killed, now years later and grown into a powerful warrior I set out to avenge them and kill those responsible.

And say ............ "tell our enemies that they may take our lives, but they'll never take... OUR FREEDOM!" Afraid not MM though now that you mention it that could be the synopsis for Braveheart, perhaps we should give you a pass on that. This film was made earlier and spawned a sequel, the actor who played the character went on to become a megastar before recently turning to another career. Are you slapping your forehead yet Siren?

Very cunning you were MM. Like I said though the clues could have related to Braveheart, very similar. Yep you're right Siren, it was Conan, played by the Governator.

This is actually about a secondary character in a terrific film, instead of the lead role. But the actress won an Oscar:
I'm an actress on a soap opera, romantically involved with my self-absorbed director, but unusually drawn to another actress on the show, who's rather homely, but strong in personality. I love her friendship, but find myself lonely when I'm with her, wishing for something I can't quite put my finger on. Something I just can't have.

Ok this is definitely Tootsie, and very interestingly described too. Now the actress that played Dustin Hoffman's love interest was she Jessica Lange?

Well done, XV! "Tootsie" is one of my favorite movies. I knew that if I described the Dustin Hoffman character, it would be too easy. So, I went with the character, "Julie", instead. Yes - Jessica Lange won the Best Supporting Actress Oscar, beating out "Tootsie" co-star Terri Garr. A shame. Not that Jessica wasn't great. But in my mind, Terri's was truly a supporting role, and she was absolutely hilarious in that movie. "I don't take this s**t from friends - only lovers!"

One of my all time favourites too there Siren. And I agree about Terri Garr, I adore her, especially as Phoebe's mom in Friends. lol I am a woman who doesn't follow the norms of society laid down for women of my time. I am considered a rough and ready frontier type, oh and I sing. Who am I?
