Oopsie The Clown....
I think this was a local television show when I was a kid; or maybe the local show was Bozo The Clown - I may be getting my clowns confused. Oopsie wore lime green, and Bozo wore blue; both had red hair - that I do remember, and whichever of the two shows was filmed in the metro Detroit area, our Brownie troop made up part of the audience during one filming. Obviously, from how clear this is in my memory, it was a highlight of my childhood. (eye-roll)

(eye-roll) Oklahoma City's clown was "HoHo", who had a sock puppet sidekick named Pokie. He had no in-studio kids for an audience. It was just HoHo and Pokie on a simple little set, about the size of a doctor's exam room. He would intro cartoons, verbally spar with Pokie. And he would read to us stories from the same newspaper every week. I remember the newspaper, which had a faded "Merry Christmas" banner at the top, never changed, but the stories did, intro'ing a film clip about how a circus prepares for a performance, or how candy is made, or the view from a hot air balloon ride, etc. The fellow who portrayed HoHo passed away years ago. And when he did, stories surfaced about his many visits to kids' birthday parties, children's hospitals and children's homes, something we didn't hear about while HoHo was on the air. Apparently, he kept up those visits long after his show went off the air. HoHo remains a beloved memory to a generation of Okie kids, including me. OMG!! I found a HoHo clip on youtube (complete with newspaper)!! God, isn't that something? So low-tech and gentle - nothing like most kids' shows today. And how funny - they must've gotten that wind power clip directly from Alcoa! Turns out the guy who voiced Pokey the puppet eventually became the station manager. Wasn't he hilarious? I don't know how HoHo got through without giggling at him. The game rolls on... "Rhoda"

That clip is too funny, Siren.....and also funny that they actually had footage left. You know I had to look up Oopsie, (in the confirmed lime green suit). I found footage of him on Youtube - not a very good recording of him appearing at the JL Hudson's Thanksgiving Day Parade in 1973.
So true these were nothing like most kids' shows now. And clowns? Pfft. I truly cannot think of one clown in any of the children's shows the girls watched. I suppose clowns have gone the way of to cheesy B-Horror films instead of silly kids' shows. But a purple dinosaur that says, 'I love you'? Come on now - that's what I call scary.
On to scary in a most clean way...too clean....
