We always said we would get another dog one day, after one or both of us retired. Vox took early retirement late last year and we started looking. Found this cutie on friday and bought him home yesterday. He is a golden english cocker spaniel, 9 weeks old and full of mischief. He is called Harry after my father and at the moment seems to prefer chewing on my thumb rather than his teething ring. Welcome to the family Harry. Edited To: shrink image. ~Mini-Mia

He's beautiful! I love that breed too. Irish Setters are my very favorite breed, but Cocker Spaniels are high on my list as well.

Now how dang cute can one puppy be? Off the charts in the cuteness category, he is.
Congratulations on your new arrival, Vox and Moonglum!

Congratulations! He will help to keep you healthy too. I'm sure he will want to take you out for walks several times a day just to make sure you get the proper amount of exercise.

Life is all too short. For some, very very short indeed.
Four days after Harry came home with us he started to take a turn for the worst. He stopped eating and spent most of his time in his bed. The following morning we took him to the vet and she diagnosed an acute case of enteritis. He was put on a drip and spent the next four days fighting it. Enteritus is often fatal within 24hours in puppies and the fact that he survived so long is testament to the little guy's will to survive. Sadly Harry lost that fight this morning and passed away.
Harry was only with us a short while but while he was here he left his mark, in more ways than one. He leaves us with a void in our hearts and tears in our eyes.
Goodbye Harry.

Oh my, MG. I am so sorry to hear that. Losing a pet is such a difficult thing. I wish you peace, and that you fell better soon.

So sorry for your loss. To me, it's always harder to lose the babies, no matter how short a time they've been with us. Harry

Sorry, I don't know what to say. I was going to just post the face above but thought you deserved at least a little more. I know how I feel about similar situations but no one can really know how you feel. Hope you are able to cope and recover sooner rather than later.

Very sorry to read that MG.
Do you and Vox plan on getting a replacement, or is it a bit soon to be thinking about that?

THank you all for your kind words. Yes Jox, losing the young ones is always hardest. Vox took it very hard. Harry was her little 'baby'. She was home with him all day and she misses him trotting around behind her all the time. Do you and Vox plan on getting a replacement, or is it a bit soon to be thinking about that? Yes Kat, we will get a replacement but, not just yet. The practicalities of life soon begin to overshadow grief. The vet thinks it may have been the Parvo virus which killed Harry. If it was, then it can lay dormant in the soil for some time (6 months or more). Harry was just getting used to the garden. So to be on the safe side, we will leave it for next year.

A Not So New Arrival We couldn't wait till next year, and not wishing to jinx it, I've waited a while before announcing this arrival. He is a Blue Roan English Cocker Spaniel. He is full of life, mad as a bucket of frogs and the most affectionate companion we could have wished for. He's six months old now and is definitely keeping us fit. I get some funny looks when I'm out walking him and people ask his name and I tell them he's named after a serial killer. i105.photobucket.com/albums/m212/Wilf_05/040A.jpgOh yes, his name is Dexter.

Moonglum! So nice to "see" you, and with such good news, too.
Dexter is very handsome...and laying in the chair the way he is, it looks as if he's king on his throne.
Congratulations.

'King on his throne' is right Lady P. Dexter is definitely the master in this house. He is the most loveable little fella and a great companion for Vox during the day, now that she is retired.

Vox is fine thank you both. We've both had an 'eventful' time of late. Voxs mum went into a rest home early this year and both my parents passed away. Mum last year and dad this year. Still, young Dexter has provided much love and affection and has been spoilt rotten in return.

Sorry to hear of the loss of your parents. Having to put a parent in the rest home isn't easy either. My heart goes out to you both. I'm sure Dexter helps a great deal to lighten the pain.

The King is dethronedi105.photobucket.com/albums/m212/Wilf_05/027.jpgWe decided we wanted to get a companion for Dexter. Little did we know what we were letting ourselves in for! Her name is Ruby. She is an orange roan cocker spaniel and has definitely usurped the king. She was about 15 weeks old when that photo was taken, she is now 7 months and rules the roost. When they play-fight, she is merciless (typical woman), she gives no quarter and poor Dexter has come to know his place and defers to her in all things. It's great to see them chasing each other around the garden like two tasmanian devils on speed. Then suddenly, as if to an unheard signal, they just stop and flop down on the floor to sleep, looking like butter wouldn't melt in their mouths. i105.photobucket.com/albums/m212/Wilf_05/041.jpgThe pair of monkeys have certainly changed our lives.

Poor Dexter. I'm sure he learned real fast that though he may be King, it's in name only; the Queen rules. Adorable, the both of them, Moonglum!
Give them both a pat on the head for me, and tell Voxie Lady I say hello.

We are both doing well thanks Joxie. Don't seem to get too much free time to get on here lately.
I've said hello to both the dogs and patted Vox on the head Phalon (was that right!) Vox says hi to you all.

I think it's amazing how I can make plans that take so much longer to reach fruition than what the plan anticipated. Okay, as Phalon would point out if she were here, it's entirely possible that I'm not exactly a great planner. What I'm really saying is that Einstein should have studied the theory of TOIG-TFTGB (the older I get, the faster time goes by.) I wonder if this is more true for parents - after all - kids age you faster than normal.
