I really hate shows that hint at a possible romance, which goes on for years and years and years, yet nothing ever comes of it. Gee! Get them together or don't, but STOP THE HINTING!!!!!!! There are a lot of possible romances that I have absolutely no interest in. Why? Because I know nothing's ever going to come of it. Why should I invest my time with the possibility of a relationship that will never be?
If you're a show writer and you think the "are they / aren't they" is a great ploy to keep viewers hanging on, rethink your idea. I'm only going to invest my time in a real relationship between characters. But they have to stay together. Break them up just to have them make up, and then break up and then make up . . . I'm done. I will drop that story line so fast you won't even see it coming.
If I stick with a show, it is for the other story lines. Because the "are they/aren't they" have been done to death. And I am done with them.

Think about shows of the past Joxee - Remington Steele for example. What does it mean when TPTB resolve relationships? It means the show is over. It's the tension, the unresolved question, that keeps people coming back. Like with Tony and Zeva on NCIS - they'll never resolve the tension between them unless the show is going off the air.

Those were one of the ones I was thinking about. And I think shows can go on once the couple's relationship does become romantic . . . if done right. I watch shows that prove this. Bones, Castle, Beauty & the Beast . . . to name a few. The romance doesn't have to become a major part of the show, it just can't be the 'hinting,' 'are they/aren't they' or 'on again/off again' scenario. I'm so sick of those. And if I have to wait 6 to 10 years for a couple to happen, I'm going to be over them by the end of the first year. I am no longer going to invest my time in such shenanigans ever again. They've been overdone. It's time to come up with something new. Such as, just friends.
