I can understand seeing her making someone uncomfortable but that's part of life. To actually come out and ask for her to leave is just wrong.

Fort Sam Houston is home to the Army and now Air Force’s main medical and medical training centers. It’s not all that uncommon to come across people with any of the various war wounds – missing limbs, scars, etc., and most people around here are sufficiently sensitive to keep from obviously inappropriate reactions. I suspect that’s not the case for that poor little girl. People have an adverse reaction to severely wounded people, but store personnel are supposed to know better. If someone screws up, at the very least, they apologize and offer to cover the cost of the person’s meal, and in this case, they should have coughed up a couple quarters and let her get a couple of “free” toys from those quarter machines they all have.

According to the article, KFC is looking into it. I'm sure they'll step up. They know they have a lot of eyes on them. The poster on the IMDb board who posted the link asked everyone to boycott KFC, but I don't think they can be blamed for everything their employees do. But they can be blamed if they don't step in and fix it.

It seems to me that regardless of whether or not people are used to seeing the severely wounded, insensitive, inappropriate reactions are unacceptable from anyone, regardless of how the disfigured person is encountered (not just store personnel, for example). It just common friggin' courtesy.

... It just common friggin' courtesy. That's the trouble though isn't it? Courtesy isn't common anymore.

This is true, and unattainable. There are too many people who can't stand the sight of their own blood, a slight slice of the finger that got too close to a paring knife, the results of a severe car accident, whatever. Even people who can deal with it tend to be initially shocked - especially out in public. In a hospital or on a military installation you come to expect it, but Joe Q. Public doesn't normally see severely wounded people. But asking for a family to depart because of a child who was doing nothing wrong? As Spock said, common courtesy is not as common as it should be. Even if the people were shocked, they should have sucked it up.

The thought of that poor child crying in the car all the way home is heartbreaking. How could anyone make her feel that way? Really? A child? After what she had just survived? It's unfathomable.

That was a nice contribution toward her medical expenses.

Yes, it was. I hope they continue to help her out in the future. She'll probably need a lot of surgeries.

I just learned that the dogs belonged to the little girl's grandfather. And he was arrested on charges of child endangerment.

Did he deserve to be arrested or was it just another knee-jerk response by the local authorities?

I don't know. I was told this by an IMDb poster. I didn't Google to find out more detail. It was never mentioned in any of the KFC articles I read.

He had 10 pit bulls - three of them attacked the girl. He killed two of them and the third one was put down. The charges stem from having dangerous animals and allowing such a young person to be exposed to the danger. That's as much of it as I've heard.

OMG! It's a good thing he was there to save her at least. I know some say pit bulls can be good dogs, but I don't think I'd take that chance, ever.

I don't think they are any more vicious than any other breed, but every breed has dogs that are less than friendly or overly protective of their territory. The problem with pit bulls is their bite - they have very strong bites.

Yes. I've heard it said that it's the owner's fault if a pit bull goes bad. There is usually abuse of some kind that is behind any pit bull attack. And it isn't just their bite, it's the fact they won't let go come hell or high water. They're harder to get to back down once they attack. They're very focused.

Well, crap. I must admit I did fear this might be the turnout. If this turns out to be BS, I feel even more sorry for that cute child.

Some people will do whatever they can to con others out of whatever they can get.

Sadly, this is true. But it don't bode well for this child. Are we going to find out next that the dog attack was so they could get money?

Now, that is a shame. That little girl deserves the help. She shouldn't be punished for this. Maybe someone else will take over and go around the family to pay the doctors & hospitals.
