I think I need to stop lowering the thermostat. It seems to me that every time I do, I roast whenever the heat kicks on and it reaches the temps that used to be okay ... but now is not. I've set it as low as 60F. The house is cold, the floor is cold, but just a few degrees higher and I roast. Crazy. I would definitely try a Belladonna if someone gave me one. Mom's friend swears all it takes is one or two pills, and goodbye hot flashes forever. My doctor wouldn't prescribe it for me though.

Sixty degrees inside the house during winter is pretty danged cold!!!
Hhhmmm...I wonder if you being uncomfortably warm at the higher temperature that you normally used to keep your heat set has anything to do with acclimation? I mean like a comfortable outside winter, or even summer, temperature here would probably feel cold to someone from a warmer climate; I'd probably feel hot if plopped down in the South somewhere in heat that would be considered average for that area. The same thing for you inside your house - you've gotten used being in cooler temperatures with the heat set low, so when it's higher your body isn't used to it, and reacts differently than it did. (I remember you mentioning some of those higher temperatures you used keep your heat at - I thought they were way too warm! Or rather, they'd be way too warm for me!)

I am nearly positive that belladonna is an over-the-counter herbal supplement. Your doctor wouldn't need to prescribe it. You could probably get it anywhere that sells herbal stuff - even Walmart.
I'm not sure though if it's advisable to take - it's got a lot of side effects, and maybe can interact with something else you're taking. That could be why your doctor discourages you from using it.

Before the hot flashes, my doctor would tell me that I was slightly anemic, but he never told me what to do for it. I think that’s the reason I was so cold. Plus, I wasn’t cold natured before he put me on hormone pills. It was birth control pills for a couple of years, and then various other pills to maybe get my pituitary gland to start working? And then it was Premarin, and then Premarin and Provera, and then PremPro.
After I first started taking hormone pills ... if I was roasting beneath the covers, and I threw them off, my nose would feel up and I’d start sneezing, and I’d do it for a long time. I learned to slowly inch the blanket, comforter, or both down off of me. If I did it very slowly, and not two much at a time, I’d be fine. I also don’t recall ever having sinus problems before taking hormones. I loved Autumn back before hormones. I loved the cold and bundling up. I don’t remember Spring and Autumn ever messing with my head. The hormones is when I started hating the cold and being miserable whenever the weather changed.
I’m thinking that my sweatshirt might be playing a role in needing the heat so low. My sister gave it to me ages ago, and I only wear it at home. It feels thicker than my regular sweatshirts. Plus, I didn’t give it to my Mom’s friend when she offered to cut the sleeves off of my sweatshirts. (I hate long sleeves.) The sleeves on this sweatshirt has more room, so the hairs on my arms don’t get rubbed in the wrong direction and become painful. Which may have been a childhood thing. I don’t think the hairs on my arms are as long and thick as they used to be. Tight sleeves had my arms hurting in the same way as my head would hurt after taking my hair down out of a ponytail or pigtails.
Actually, I don’t recall exactly when I started needing the heat lower and lower, so it might not be connected to the sweatshirt. Guess I’ll find out. Instead of putting it on when I get cold, maybe I should only get it out when the temperatures outside are in the teens or lower. Oh, and I think the outside weather plays a part too. If the wind isn’t blowing, it feels warmer inside. Sometimes ice and snow can make the house feel warmer, so it could have to do with the weather conditions outside. Or the air pressure outside. Maybe I should wear a sweatshirt over a thinner shirt. I can take off the sweatshirt when I start to get hot, and then put it back on when I start to get cold. Except for this one, unless my lights go off.

My Mom’s friend said Belladonna is highly addictive, and to not take more than two. I only take a cholesterol pill, and an allergy pill, and I could stop them for a bit. I still have the Black Cohosh I was taking before the aspirin raised my kidney levels, maybe I’ll start taking that again. I’m wondering if that is why my hot flashes aren’t as extreme as they used to be. Anyways, the hot flashes did stop when I took them every day. So I’ll dig them out again.
And it’s weird how I’m still miserable when dealing with the hot flashes and side effects even though they’re not the extreme they once were. You’d think them not being as bad would be a wee bit of relief, but no, they’re still awful as all get out. Okay. I should stop venting before I start to bury myself. I was on that road when I woke up this morning, and I shut it down real quick.

That's a coincidence! I was thinking the same thing last week, and made overnight oats a couple of time for lunch. I do it savory too - though not as all-out as the recipes in the videos. I just substitute hot broth (this time I use vegetable) for the water or milk, and add it to steel-cut oats to pop into the fridge overnight. When I heat it up, I toss in a handful of baby spinach leaves, lots of pepper and Tajin seasoning. The result is kind of like soup with barley, just a bit chewier. The steel-cut oats don't get mushy - which is the thing about oatmeal that I don't like. The egg in the videos looks good; I'll give that a try!
I had my six-month appointment with the Dental Dominatrix a couple of weeks ago, and while nervously waiting to be tortured in "The Chair", I picked up a magazine - I think it was Oprah's, but I don't know if it was a current issue; it had a very interesting article on menopause. One of the things mentioned was that although there are known triggers for hot-flashes in women going through menopause - caffeine, spicy foods, heat and humidity, stress, etc, etc, and more etc - that up to 70% percent of hot-flashes can occur for no reason at all.
And oh! I got on the scale a couple of days ago, which is something I've been putting off since just after Thanksgiving. I was surprised, pleasantly - I'm at the same weight I was since I last got on the scale sometime around Thanksgiving, which is really good since there has been a mountain of chocolate between weighings! An 18-pound loss total, although just before Thanksgiving I was hovering back and forth between 18 and 20 pounds. I've set my goal at 25.

Their savory recipes didn’t appeal to me. I got soup broth to try. Haven’t figured out what else I might add to it. I saw another video where the rolled oats were browned in a pot of butter, then added liquid and boiled it. I was thinking I might ‘roast’ the rolled oats and eat as a cereal, or in a granola mixture.

I thought about doing something similar - either toasting them in the oven, or in a pan on the stove with a little butter, and sprinkling them on salads. I don't think it'd be as appetizing with steel-cut oats though, which is what I have - but what the heck, I might give it a try.

This video has parts of it that give me ideas:
Here's the video that browned the oats. I just didn't like the boiling part:
And I really like the way they're done here too:

I've been getting some oats in my diet this week with Cheerios!
BP left half a box here when she went back to college, and a handful or two of them in the afternoon is just enough to tide me over until dinner. She ate them for breakfast with milk; I much prefer them dry.
Better start eating them everyday - my annual exam is due soon, and I know doc will want me to have my cholesterol checked again. Put those little "o"s to the test, to see if they really help lower cholesterol as the box claims.
Reminds me too, I've got to make an appointment for the yearly mammogram before the annual exam. Might as well do that now, while I'm thinking about it.

Cheerios used to be my favorite cereal growing up. I tried it a few years back and wasn't as crazy about it. I prefer Rice Chex now.

Cheerios are a staple for anyone with toddlers; any Mom with kids under the age of three, always has Cheerios on hand for snacks. Since then, I've revisited them now and again, and still like them - the problem is Hubs doesn't eat cereal, the kids when they were living at home usually preferred other kinds of cereal, and I can't get through a whole box before they go stale. It'd be nice if they came in smaller boxes. I should probably buy a Tupperware-type container that might keep them fresher longer - they really are the easiest way that I've found for me to get oats in my daily diet.

Mom used to put stale crackers in a warm oven to crisp them back up. I wonder if that would work with cereal?

Hhhmmm...I dunno. They're not stale in that softish way that crackers sometimes get. They're still hard and crunchy, they just taste stale.
Then again, Cheerios kind of have a cardboardy taste, so maybe they taste stale to me because I rarely eat them.

Yeah. Not sure heat can help with the taste.

There's a woman on YouTube, Phyllis Stokes. I like to watch her videos. This has not been a good year for her. (2019)
I was so thrilled when I saw Phyllis Stokes had put out another video, and then heartbroken at the video that had been uploaded:

Aw. It was nice that the son let her followers know what happened, instead of leaving them wondering.
Still doing the Cheerios thing to get my oats. They were on sale at the grocery the other day when I went shopping.

Her son plans on making his own videos for the channel. His mom was donating the money her videos were making. She and her husband had planned on moving to land they owned and were going to build a house on, but it never happened.

I saw a product at the grocery store yesterday, Joxie, that you might want to try - Sipping Apple Cider Vinegar. It's apple cider vinegar with the Mother with other beneficial ingredients added, I'm assuming to make it taste better. "Blueberry Honey", "Pomegranate", and "Cranberry Honey" were a few of the flavors I remember seeing. Each bottle of the sipping vinegar contained 8 "shots".
I'm never going to drink apple cider vinegar - one, I can never remember to do it with any consistency, and two, when I do drink it, I always worry what it's doing to the enamel of my teeth. I did buy some though - the "Ginger Honey" variety. Ginger, honey, and apple cider vinegar are all things good for your skin; BP has made facial washes and toners separately out of all three ingredients. I figure I'll give it a try since my face is exposed to the outside elements year 'round.

I stopped drinking bottled juice because of all the sugar and calories ... so if these have a lot of sugar and calories, I might not drink them either. I hadn't seen or heard of them though, so thanks. They probably won't be sold locally either, so that would be another reason I probably won't get them. I haven't been to WalMart in ages. My sister takes me to appointments and lets me get drive through food, but she's ready to head back home after that.

The sipping vinegar brand is Vermont Village. A quick drill shows that Walmart carries it - at least it does on-line.
The Ginger & Honey apple cider vinegar that I got ingredients are "raw, organic and unfiltered apple cider vinegar with the Mother, water, organic honey, organic ginger". It has 20 calories and 5 grams of sugar per serving.
In comparison the 100% juice orange juice that I have is 160 calories and 33 grams of sugar per serving.
Obviously the sugars from honey and fruit juice are better for you than refined sugar because of the vitamins and nutrients that honey and fruit contains; refined sugar is processed and has no nutrient value what-so-ever.
I sort of stopped too....mainly because Hubs doesn't drink juice and when BP, who does drink it, went to college, the carton would go bad before I finished it; I got tired of pouring almost an entire half gallon of orange juice down the sink! Instead I'll buy one single serving orange juice bottle a week, and take a swig every now and then.
I'm trying to cut back on sugar intake also; my glucose level was borderline high when I had my cholesterol checked back in October (I'm supposed to have it rechecked, but keep forgetting!). I've pretty much given up sweets and snacks, except on special occasions and my one hot chocolate at night, but dang it, sugar is in everything!
Being in the "fit and healthy" thread - I've got to start bundling up for the daily walk with the ladies. It's going to be a cold one today - 18F out there. Brrrrr.
