Isn't that sort of the same? I guessed you'd pick "Tainted Love"; or rather, it's the first thing that came to my mind. I dunno though - there might be some Abba or Taylor Swift song with "tainted" in the lyrics.

The pavement's moving to the beat When the heat hits the street You can lose yourself in the neon light

What I meant was did you pick that to push me at Tainted Love, or was it obvious where I'd go once you saw the word? In all honesty, I can't think of another song that uses 'tainted'. At least not without having to resort to a search engine.

The latter.
Speaking of covers, you and I might have come up with the same song for "neon" but by different artists - 50 years apart. Some covers are better than the original (Disturbed's version of "Land of Confusion", for example, I think is better than Phil Collins' original), some are worse (Marilyn Manson absolutely destroyed the Eurythmics' "Sweet Dreams"), and some are just different.
from "The Sound of Silence" originally by Simon and Garfunkel, recently covered by Disturbed
And the people bowed and prayed To the neon God they made And the sign flashed out its warning And the words that it was forming
next word: flash(ed)
It's an interesting cover, and has been a huge success for Disturbed (even garnering personal praise in an e-mail from Paul Simon to Disturbed's vocalist, David Draiman). The tempo's been slowed, and instead of guitars as in the Simon and Garfunkel version, it's backed by a full orchestra. It gives the song a more somber feel than the folksy sound of the original, but it's not a typical Disturbed alt metal sound either. I read a while ago, Draiman said something like, 'my parents can proudly turn it on for their friends without having to warn them first'.
Here are the two versions, back to back (the Disturbed video contains melodramatic close-ups of Draiman's singing would be the only "warning"!)

Worse Comes to Worst - Billy Joel
I'll do my writing on my road guitar And make a living at a piano bar Oh worse comes to worse I'll get along I don't know how but sometimes I can be strong

Was going to go with "They Call It Stormy Monday" by T-Bone Walker (Clapton's version is the one I remember best), but I used it recently, so here's one from a CD I revisited a couple weeks ago driving up to LX's. It's BP's CD from a few years ago, and is the only hip-hop album I'd willingly play - in fact, BP wasn't even with me when I put it in on the drive home; I actually like it.
from "Jimmy Iovine" by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis
"Anyway, you ready? We’ll give you a hundred thousand dollars. After your album comes out we’ll need back that money that you borrowed" "So it’s really like a loan." "A loan? Come on, no! We're a team, 360 degrees, we will reach your goals! You’ll get a third of the merch that you sell out on the road Along with a third of the money you make when you’re out doing your shows Manager gets 20, booking agent gets 10 So sh!t, after taxes you and Ryan have 7% to split That’s not bad, I’ve seen a lot worse, No one will give you a better offer than us" I replied, "I appreciate the offer, thought that this is what I wanted Rather be a starving artist than succeed at getting f***ed."
next word: tax(es)
I've heard the same sentiments expressed by other artists, in songs, in interviews, and it's a wonder any of the musicians actually make any money.

I knew it! You must have been reading my mind....and not listening. No, no, no. Please, please don't pick probably the most cringe-worthy bad rhyming song known to man, with at least two of the most grammatically incorrect sentences ever written just for a sake of making something sort of rhyme; as if 'Bobbie Sue took the money and run' isn't bad enough, the thought that 'he knows exactly what the facts is' is teeth-grittingly irritating.
Was hoping you'd go with "Tax Man"
Although I recently used "Texas Twister" by Little Feat for something, turning to them again for a different Texas-themed song, because despite the song title, you can't go wrong with Little Feat.
from "Those Feat'll Steer You Wrong Sometimes"
Now we're going to London, Liverpool, Italy, Paris, Egypt, Dublin, Frisco, Waco, Athens, Gouldbusk, Troy, and Miami, Moody, Beaumont, Edinburgh, Lubbock Pecos, Deadwood, Fife, del Rio, Houston, Austin, all around Dallas Texas is a world all of its own.

Oh no no no! The message was garbled in transmission! What I got from you was this...
With such a glowing recommendation, it just seemed logical that I should accommodate your choice. And here all this time I thought I had done a good thing.
I didn't realize just how upsetting this was for you until I saw that you picked "Texas" again, then I saw the highlighted Miami and realized this had scrambled your brains.

Barely alive - it was in the fall several years ago - some clowns had chased him from their summer retreat in Michigan all the way down to Florida. I pulled him aside just in time before they had him trapped in Carnie Town; I redirected him to Miami. How was I to know that was virtually the same thing? He ended up convincing someone he could sing and WHAM he's on some TV show. Go figure.
