Snoballs come in pink and white. I love them and the Suzy Qs. I love marshmallows and coconut and cake and sugary cream. So, it’s the perfect combination.
I’ve turned off a couple of fans. The thermostat is at 69F, so the a/c won’t be kicking on for a while. It seems the 90s won’t be sticking around for long, as the temps drop after that.

Temperatures will be going up. Supposed to be 99F for a couple of days this week, then in the 80s. Next week, the temps will drop into the 70s during the day, and 50s at night. Not sure that will be the end of high temps though. We shall see.

We had a fabulous end of summer bash with the family! The girls and their boyfriends, my brother's ex wife, and their kids were here. How grown up they are now!!! My niece just graduated college, and my nephew just graduated high-school. We were trying to figure out how long it's been since we've seen each other - it's been six years!!! (Although I had it in my head being more like 10 years) The weather was perfect for late summer - 70s and 80s during the day, and 60s at night.
We went to the beach swimming, kayaked up the river, went apple picking (and of course, got apple cider and warm apple-cider doughnuts!), had bonfires, played badminton, went on a homemade randonauting adventure in the dark, and ate and ate and ate. Oh-my-gosh, so much good food!
The only thing that could have made the weekend better was if my brother could have been here - unfortunately, he got called a couple of weeks ago to go down to Texas for work for about a month.

Tomorrow is to be in the 90s, and then it drops to the 70s. The weekend is supposed to be in the 80s, and then back down in the 70s. The night temps are fairly equal, going up and down from the 60s, 50s, and 40s. Which doesn’t mean there can’t be a day or two of Summer every now and again before the Autumn temps finally stick around for good. And then the tug of war will be between Autumn and Winter. The temps must always be fighting in Spring and Autumn. They are never allowed to give us relief from Summer and Winter for very long. Too bad. These would be my favorite seasons if they were able to maintain consistent temps during their reign.

So yeah, it’s been a while since I posted anything and I thought I’d share. In March I turned 70, then on March 31st I retired from civil service. Unfortunately, a couple of weeks before I retired I noticed my back hurt and it was getting worse every night. By April 8th it was bad enough that I couldn’t lay down or sleep so I went to the Ft Sam Houston ER. They decided I needed an MRI but they wanted a 90 minute MRI and I couldn’t lay on my back for 7 seconds. The doctors insisted on the MRI – the get-around was morphine – four shots of it. They said the 4th was the last one they could give me but it turned out to be enough. I remember that it was wearing off when the MRI was completed. My memory from that point on is a bit fuzzy so I’ll eliminate the peripheral details and try to stick to the main points. I remember waking up in critical care – with tubes down my throat. Not a pleasant experience and it took multiple attempts to get the breathing tubes removed but it got done. The next thing I noticed was that my right leg was a brick – frozen into position and I couldn’t move it at all. Evidently, the doctors found an infection in my spinal column – two disks had disintegrated and had to be removed. The spine had to be fused in the T4 area; the infection had attacked and wrapped around the spinal cord, and also required attention. And of course, they inserted a minor jungle gym in my back to hold the spine together while things healed up. (No lifting of 10 pounds or twisting left or right for 6 weeks – standard restriction so I understand.) I have been told that during the operation they got a screw a millimeter off and it nicked my spinal column – that’s what has caused a multitude of problems, and required immediate action meaning a second op to fix it. At about six weeks I was transferred to the Audie Murphy Veterans Administration Rehabilitation Center in San Antonio which is where I have been ever since. I am undergoing intensive Physical and Operational therapy. For some time there has been a question as to whether or not I’d ever be able to walk but I am personally determined that is going to happen. (They did a home safety inspection and say that unless I can walk, I can’t go home for several reasons but one is that some doorways such as the ones to the bathroom are not wide enough to allow for my wheelchair or a walker). Going to the restroom seems like a necessary requirement but rather than spend several grand on home modifications I’d prefer just walking around. There have been several challenges centered around me being confined to bed and rehab while things went bad. I had a problem with retirement paperwork that came up after I was operated on, and recently my home outside AC fan motor gave up – it’s a relatively new system and this should not have happened – fortunately it’s still under warranty so the motor was covered - $300 – but the labor wasn’t covered and that was $550! I’m aggravated but stuck here for some time yet. As it is, I am able to wiggle toes and can now flex my leg which is a vast improvement but I a have very long way to go to achieve my recovery goals. A friend brought my laptop to the VA Center for me so I now have Wi-Fi access and can see what’s happening in the world. I hope you are all well and that the heat waves have not adversely affected any one too badly.

I think this thread title fits your situation very well. So sorry for everything you’ve been going through. I hope you do manage to walk again. Sometimes the mind can make things happen, when there is massive determination behind it. And I’ve no doubt you are strongly determined to walk again. I hope you’re on your feet soon.
I’ve been the only one posting lately. I guess Phalon’s job has her super busy. I don’t know anything about nurseries, so not sure when she might get a break, other than when they shut down for Winter. I’m sure she lurks from time to time, so she’ll probably drop by for a quick comment when she sees your post.

Everything comes to an end at some point. It seems that maybe Whoosh is on its way to being shut down. Sadly, I've recently figured out that a lot of the lurkers are scammers who are searching for URLs that no longer go to the sites/pages they were linked to, and they create a redirect to their page with malware or their site that they want to direct traffic to. I've caught a few, and I've removed the links, but I doubt I'll ever come across all of them. Too many threads with links to search through. And no reason to find and remove them anyway, since the board is pretty much dead/dying.

Oh Bummer! I agree that's way too much work for anyone to do. I used to go back to the Christmas and game links just to see what everything pointed to, I didn't know it was possible for a scammer to modify any of the old dead links but the scammers will go to amazing lengths to try to cheat people out of their money. Personally I think it's easier to simply earn my own cash but be very cautious - because of the scammers.

Honestly, I don't understand how anyone can redirect a URL going to one site/page, and have it open up a completely different URL going to a completely different site/page. But I've seen it done many times in old threads with links that no longer go to the page/site they were once linked to. If you want an example, go to :whooshorg: and click on the message board link there. Kym hasn't taken the 33 out of the board's URL. If you hover over the image that says Message Board, you will see that it is an old link to here. But if you click on it, instead of being brought to Proboards, where you should get a Grrr page stating that there was an error made. You will be taken to a completely different website. I mentioned it on Whoosh's Facebook group months ago, but Kym still hasn't removed the 33 from the URL. I can't help but wonder how many have been redirected away from this board, and would they have become members if they had made it here?

I heard they're expecting a Canadian cold front that should knock their temperatures down to a few degrees below normal. I wouldn't mind getting some of that myself!

Sounds good to me. Right now my part of the world has gone dark. Severe weather is blowing in. Which is never good in this heat. My lights keep flickering, and I’m wondering if I’ll lose them before the storm is over. Supposed to end in a couple of hours, if the weather report is accurate. My outside security light is on, when it shouldn’t be on for a couple more hours. I do love watching the trees sway though. In the beginning of a storm.

There's nothing happening here except for lots of sunshine, heat, and an occasional cloud. As for drought, they don't have a higher category for desperately in need of rain. I heard the string of 100+ days in El Paso broke over the weekend because they had a day that was "only" 99. Here, the weather guessers are still tracking the number of days of 100+ because they expect this year to set the newest record for that category. One of them even reminded people that locally, extended seasons of hot weather here have a tendency to break via extreme thunderstorms that include flooding. We need but not the flooding.

It has cooled off here for a while. The days in the 80s. Low to high. The nights in the 60s and 70s. And rain, and severe weather. Got some severe weather heading my way right now. Oh joy.
I went to the eye doctor today. I was supposed to come back in two years for a cataract exam. Looks fine. I don't need surgery yet, and I don't need a new prescription for my glasses.

Hello you two, long time no speaks! I haven't been on for quite a while, not even lurking. Had a bad fall at Easter which gave me problems for a while. All good now. Vox has had problems with a hernia, coming up for a year now and she still has not been able to see a consultant, they keep putting her appointment back. I have been getting back into my amateur radio hobby so I haven't done any writing for ages. Sorry to hear about your problems Stepper. Best wishes from Vox and myself and hope you are up and chasing those nurses soon.

Well, it's still hot, but it isn't as bad as the feels likes being in the 100s. I'm sure those really hot temps will be back before Autumn, as August is only just beginning. We're also getting lots of rain and severe thunderstorms as well. The beans in the fields are growing so fast after each storm. I hope that means a good price when they sell this Autumn.
Hey, Moonglum. Welcome back. Sorry to hear that you too have had troubles of late. Glad to see some members drop by again.

Moonglum and Vox: Thanks for the well wishes and I hope you are both doing well. Seems my adventures haven't quite expired yet. Last Sunday I was talking to my brother and realized I sounded off. I chalked it up to having a nasal drip from some previously unknown allergy, but no. One of the nurses said I had to be tested and that came back as positive for the newest version of Covid so now I am quarantined to my one room for 10 days. I do okay most days because the therapy people come by and they are company for most of the day, but there's no one doing therapy on weekends, and I can't have family come visiting so the next days are going to be overly long. Sigh. I heard from Steppet who was here on Sunday - she took one of the home tests and fortunately she was negative for Covid, but she can't come around until next weekend. Looks like I'll be watching a lot of TV and youtube until I get cleared to join the living again. Where's the Xena channel? I think I need it. Jox: Thanks for keeping an eye on the board - and for keeping the politicians at bay.

It is a "if you build it they will come" type of post. For when/if the board ever picks up again. I had posted in Whoosh's Facebook group that I would create a sister group for politics if anyone wanted it, and Kym PMed me asking me not to. She told me she is non-partisan and didn't want anything political associated with the name Whoosh. (Which has me wondering if I should archive the political thread. It's old and outdated, so I guess I will.)
Sorry to hear you have COVID. I've been reading articles claiming a new variant might be close to the strength of the older, stronger variants. I'm hoping the numbers don't get as high as when COVID first hit. At least you're in the hospital already, so they can keep an eye on you. I hope you get over it quickly and have an easy time dealing with it. I've not gotten it yet, that I'm aware of. I'm sure I will at some point, since it's here to stay, just like the viruses from pandemics of the past.

The temperatures are back up in the extreme heat area. It’s supposed to be in the 90s, but feels like the 100s, until the weekend. Next week is back down into the 80s again. I can’t believe August is almost over. Sometimes September cools down, and sometimes it’s hot until October. Sometimes October is hot too, but usually it’s bearable.

Well, it appears that the first week of September will be back up into the 90s. Oh, joy. Guess I won’t have to worry about closing the vents yet. I’m bad about leaving them open after it turns cold. I’ll probably forget this year too.

We've set two records here recently...we went 29 straight days with temps hitting triple digits followed by two days of 99 and then 98; then right back to triple digits. Today we set the second record: 60 days in a single year where the temps were triple digits, and we aren't done yet. Sadly, there are more coming. I'm not worrying about vents yet either - just A/C bills.

Yeah. A/C bills are pretty high. And it looks as though the temps aren't going to drop until October. Whether that's the beginning, middle, or end of October remains to be seen.

OMG, the stuff I have missed; I haven't even lurked all summer!
D@mn, Stepper. I am so very sorry for all that's happened to you, and then Covid on top of it all! I truly hope you're getting stronger every day, and not going too crazy while not being mobile. Lemme know if care packages are welcomed while you're in the hospital - I hear I put together some good ones.
Glad to hear you're okay after your fall, Moonglum, and give Voxie a hug from me - but not too big of one, lest it mess with her hernia. A year is a long time to have to deal with one of those!
It has been one weird-@ss summer here: record low temperatures, record high temperatures (a couple of miserable days last week in the high 90s, and with the humidity factored in, the "Real Feel" was 106F): record number of days without rain (7 weeks at one point), followed by 5 inches of rain that fell in an hour. The hardest thing to work outside in though, is the smoke from the Canadian wildfires (and they are still burning). You can smell it, you can taste it, and on the worst of days, everyone wears masks. My eyes have been affected the most - they burn and are bloodshot almost continually. The smoke comes and goes. Oddly, the humidity is welcomed - the thicker air seems to keep the smoke from settling.
I gotta run now, and get ready for work. Laters - mean it.

I'll get back later - have to get ready for work.
But before I go - Happy Belated Birthday, Joxie! (you didn't actually think I'd be on time, did you??)
