On the way to Church, close to 10am, my car said it was 81F. On my way home from Church two hours later, my car said it was 91F. It’s gonna be a very hot day. My weather app said it’s 88F, but feels like 94F. Soon I’ll be wanting warm weather again.

Now it’s 91F, but feels like 97F.

We’re having record breaking highs. The next three days are: 90s/60s. Thursday is: 80s/50s. Then 70s/50s and 70s/40s. The last being back to normal for this time of year. Such a huge jump. I’ll be switching the heat & a/c for night/day soon. Not as often as I used too though. Walking to the mailbox will be a bit nicer. I’ve walked more to the mailbox this year than I ever had before. Even in the extreme heat. I used an umbrella to keep the sun off of me and to catch any breeze there might be. It works nicely, by catching the slightest of breezes and swirling it around me. Only drove a couple of times. The soybeans are drying up quickly now, and soon they will be gone and I can see the traffic in the road again. Laters.

A couple of weeks ago, I drove up to the college to bring BP home for the weekend. The last hour of the drive is on country roads through farmland and forest. There were fields and fields of this bright yellow stuff - gorgeous sunshine yellow; it almost glowed it was so bright. At first, I couldn't figure out what it was - it's hard to see details driving by something at 70 mph. A few of the fields were close to the road though, and I saw that the plants looked similar to green beans...only there were so many fields of it, I couldn't imagine that many farmers planting that many fields of green beans. I decided it must be soybeans.
I've never noticed them turning that bright yellow in years past. There aren't a lot of soybean fields around here (it's mostly fruit orchards in this part of the state), and the soybeans that are in this area, usually turn a dirty yellow and tan color in the fall. Up there though - dang, it was beautiful!
It was chilly here over the weekend. It rained both Friday and Saturday - four inches of rain, accompanied by a lot of wind, thunder and lightning. Yesterday, it got hot - 85 degrees and very humid. Breezy today, but still humid and already 70 degrees. No sun yet though - too early for it to be out? It's staying darker in the mornings now.

The last day of “summer,” FINALLY! Well, tomorrow is sort of a summer day ... just not so extreme. On the way back from the mailbox I wished I had driven.

A glimpse at one part of my soybean field.
http://instagram.com/p/B3Mf76AAVWB There are eight photos, all taken throughout one day. 2 @ 8am - 2 @ 10am - 2 @ 1pm - 2 @ 5 pm.
The temps are in the 50s. I can’t turn the heat on yet. Not cold enough for my hot flashes. I would love to have the heat on, but my hot flashes rule this house.

Pretty photos, Joxie. That's what the soybean fields here look like now too. North though, on the drive to pick up BP, they were a much brighter yellow - maybe a different variety?
It's been cloudy and rainy all week; the air has been damp and chilly. Yesterday morning, I went to work wearing a hoodie, and a light corduroy jacket...and felt like I was freezing! Luckily, I found I'd left my winter jacket hanging on a coat hook in the office....it's been there since last spring. I wonder how many spiders were creeping around me while I wore it throughout the morning.
The sun came out though! It stayed out long enough warm things up enough to be able to shed both the winter coat, and corduroy jacket, before the sky clouded up again. The dampness in the air is gone too - it's 42 degrees out now, but with the dampness gone it feels much warmer already than it did yesterday when it was in the 50s. Comfortable enough to sit out on the front porch, drinking my coffee, in just my pajamas....and dark enough that no one can see me outside in just my pajamas.
Not that it matters; I always coffee-drink and porch-sit every morning in my pajamas!

I was wondering if it was the placement of the sun, which is why I took those pictures. The morning photos are brighter than throughout the day. Maybe the right amount of rainfall? Not too wet, and not too dry? Those might effect the color. I don’t plant and harvest the fields, so I’ve no idea about different types of soybeans. I just assumed there was only one kind.
Today the temp and feels like are 84F. It isn’t cool enough outside to prevent the sun from turning my house into an Easy Bake Oven, so the a/c keeps running. It got down into the 50s last night. Inside my house it was 70. One degree below where I had it set. So the a/c didn’t protect me from the laptop heat.

FINALLY! I don't know how many days in a row that it's been over 90 - today was another humid 94 degrees - but a front is supposed to arrive this evening. It brings a 30% chance of rain and predicted low of 61 in the morning with a high of only 82.

Sigh. It didn't quite work out. No rain, no 60s, but the morning low was down to mid 70s and today's high was 84. At least we broke the string of 90s.

I don't know much about soybeans, but I imagine all those things would affect the fall color just like it does with any other plant. <shrugs> I do know though, that there are different varieties of soybeans - sometimes there are signs alongside the fields, when they're testing a new variety.
BP was home this weekend, and all those bright yellow fields are now brown. Lots more color on the trees up there than there was a few weeks ago too. Very pretty drive.
All the kids were here this weekend, along with the three Hellions. And when they left, they only took two with them. The cat they were keeping for a friend, BP's boyfriend, because the place he's renting doesn't allow pets, stayed behind. She's very territorial and possessive, but at the same time, very skittish, and the three together weren't a good mix. She and Hubs bonded when we watched them all a while ago; they were here for about a week when LX and the Boyfriend went to N.C. for a friend's wedding. It seemed like a natural solution that she stayed here so all three cats would be happier; she really needs to be the only cat in a household.
I talked with my brother last night, and he's liking those cooler temperatures! Said it was 65 while we were talking, and though it's still getting hot during the day, it's much better than when he started working down there when it was getting into the 100s!
Winter jacket weather here again on Saturday, but Sunday and yesterday were absolutely gorgeous! Sweater weather on Sunday; a bit warm for a sweater yesterday, but also a bit cool for short-sleeves. Love this time of year!

Most of us prefer the temps below the 90s I think, although there are a few who prefer summer heat.
I found a winter forecast..
North/Central Plains and Midwest A milder-than-normal weather pattern will kick off the season in December across the northern and central Plains states. But it won't last for long. Arctic air is expected to surge into the region at points during the season, although it's too soon to tell exactly where the coldest conditions will take hold. Pastelok predicts near- to below-normal snowfall across the northern Plains, with near- to above-normal totals in the central Plains. Farther east, in the Upper Midwest and Great Lakes, cold air will encourage a number of lake-effect snow events. Residents will want to stock up on shovels, as an above-normal season for snowfall is in the offing.

It’s 56F outside, but the sun has it at 72F inside. Before the hot flashes I’d have the heat set on 76F, but now I have it set on 67F. If it gets any warmer in here I’m gonna turn on the a/c. BOLL! How times have changed. It’s not fun going from freezing to being tossed into a 10,000 degree vat of frying grease. And it’s coming from my very core, not from outside of me. It’s an internal heater gone haywire.
Last night it got down in the 30s, and at around 7am I woke up from a scary dream. I was freezing, and I pulled up the comforter. Something I haven’t been able to sleep under but only once or twice since my hot flashes. I was really enjoying being under the comforter, and then half a minute later I had to throw it and the blanket off of me. And then a minute or so later I needed the blanket again. I really miss being able to snuggle under the covers.

Sorry you're still suffering through hot flashes, Joxie. Mine seem to have pretty much gone away (damn, did I just jinx myself?!); I haven't had one since I can't remember when - before summer maybe? Still have to sleep with my bare feet uncovered though. Weird - now that the weather has turned colder, the blanket has been up to my neck, but if I tuck my feet under the covers, I feel that internal heat instantly kick in.
After a week of really nice weather, it turned ugly Friday, and is supposed to be much colder this coming week. They had predicted our first hard freeze Friday night, but it didn't happen. Cold enough to wish I'd worn long-johns to work yesterday though! The wind was biting.
The fall colors are really starting to pop - I notice them most on my drive to and from work. Everything in our yard is mostly still green, except the low-bush blueberries in one of the hillside gardens in the ravine - sitting on the side porch, I can just see the tops of their pinky-orange leaves. They are supposed to be in the foreground to a backdrop of light blue asters, which has been a gorgeous autumn display of color for years. The asters though, suffered an attack from the Weed-eater of Destruction about a month ago. Hubs was trying to be helpful again - he thought the asters were ragweed, never once questioning in his head, "why would she let such a big patch of ragweed grow in her garden?" Sigh.

No fall colors here just yet. It's been raining here this evening. The high today was in the low 70s. It was cloudy all day, so the sun didn't turn my house into an easy bake oven, and I didn't need to turn on the a/c. Got some 70s peppered in with the 60s. I wish Spring and Autumn had longer transitions between Summer and Winter and Winter and Summer. It seems more like there are only two seasons.

Rainy here today, and very, very windy. Had a hard time sleeping last night with the wind tossing the limbs of the maple outside our bedroom like they were made of string - amazing a tree can withstand that kind of swaying.
It's a long-john day...well, tights under jeans and two pairs of socks, anyway. A couple of shirts and winter jacket for good measure. The high is supposed to be 54 degrees.

Check out these videos from Wednesday, the day I posted here last, about how windy it was here. Oh. My. Gosh. The wind was scary!!!
(At about 25 seconds in, you'll start seeing why they say Lake Michigan is known for its sunsets)
This one is from here, and St. Joe, about 1/2 hour south of us.

It is 63F outside, and I have the a/c on. My dog and I are roasting in this easy bake oven. My dog is very lucky that I'm suffering from hot flashes, because otherwise I'd have the heat set to 76, and she'd be hotter than she is now.

We're at peak color here? Probably not, but another massive wind storm yesterday along the lakeshore, and still continuing this morning may have stripped trees of their leaves before they even changed color. The continuing pounding of wind and Lake Michigan waves is taking its toll up and down the shoreline, with erosion and wash-outs now becoming a huge concern.
Sunday, the weather was gorgeous though. I had to drive BP back to college; a last-minute visit here for a funeral. The drive up was breath-taking. Though there was still a lot of green, the flaming orange and red of the maples and more subdued peachy-colored sassafras really popped against all that green. I never get tired of it - something as simple as changing leaf color never ceases to give me a thrill.
It'll be interesting to see how the color progresses on that drive - she'll be home this Friday for a dentist appointment, and the following week for an orthodontist appointment.

Rain is predicted for tomorrow night. I'll be glad when the sun stops heating up the house and I can turn the a/c off. I wear Summer clothes in the house, and then have to add layers when I go outside. The sun is warm, but the breeze is chilly. And I can't believe that October is almost over. Gee, why can't the cold seasons go by fast, and the hot ones slow?

At last!A no BS cold front! Last night just after dark it got windy. We ended up with 2.5" of rain. This morning the temp was in the lower 40s with a wind chill of 37. It's been a long time coming, but we've finally got cooler temps and rain! And, a pregnant cat decided my porch was the optimal place to ride out the rain. She moved into the cat bed on the front porch that was just out of the rain. She even defended her territory from an opossum that came around checking out the dry cat food. I'll bait the humane trap the next couple of nights so that I can relocate it. Mama has been visiting for several weeks and recently started eyeing the inside of the house when I open the door - perhaps this is going to run into more than a passing friendship.

Welp, they took the snow out of the forecast for Halloween...but all that means is they got the days wrong. It's snowing this morning!!! Big flakes mixed with rain, and it probably won't accumulate - the ground is too wet and too warm.
We've pretty much been in the 40s for highs and rainy since last week, except lo and behold, Sunday and Monday were in the mid-50s and at least partly sunny - on my days off!!! That rarely happens! It's a big joke at work between me and the man boss that my days off are always cr@ppy weather - I never get anything done outside. I was able to get a bit done outside this weekend - got a couple of the gardens cut back, pruned the hydrangeas out front, and put up a few Halloween decorations.
I'm not going all out decorating this year for Halloween - a lot of what I have is fabric, and it's supposed to rain all day tomorrow...and the high for the day is predicted to be 43F. Not the kind of weather that will bring a lot of trick-or-treaters, I imagine, and I know already I've got waaaay too much candy!
BP's got an orthodontist appointment tomorrow morning, and I've got to go pick her up tonight. The drive, which I normally don't mind, is getting old. I'll leave at 6pm after work, and we won't get home until between 11pm and midnight. I just drove her back Sunday, after picking her up last Thursday for a dentist appointment. And the week before that for a funeral for a high-school classmate. And the first week of the month, for I can't remember what. Three weekends out of four is just too much driving for one month, especially since I'm doing half of it after working all day.
I'll be glad to dote on her this weekend, though - she took a bad spill on her scooter Monday morning riding it to class in the dark. She hit a crack on the sidewalk, flew over the handles, did a face-plant on the concrete, which left her with ringing in her ears. I told her to go to the clinic to get checked out; she said she didn't have time. She did end up going after the ringing turned into painful pressure, and the clinic doctor told her to go to the hospital for a CT scan; she said she didn't have time to wait for a cab. When she texted me during her evening class that everything looked "hazy", and she couldn't concentrate, I told her to interrupt the professor, tell him what happened and have him call a cab for her. She finally listened, and a boy she knows in her class volunteered to drive her to the hospital. Scanned her head and drained her ears. No concussion, no blood in her ears or broken eardrums, no broken bones, but she jarred her jaw, which caused pressure in her ears. She says she's fine, though her ears still feel weird, but you know Moms...I want to see for myself!
Kitties! Is there perhaps a new kitten in your near-future, hhmmmm?

Work ended up being cancelled yesterday due to weather, and I was able to pick up BP from college early enough that the drive was during the day instead of at night. Though it rained the entire way up and back, the gloomy weather didn't diminish the gorgeous fall color...though something's been missing...
Yellow! We've got these flaming reds, burnt brick, and glowing oranges, but until yesterday there has been little-to-no yellow. Yellow, I've always thought, is what makes the other colors shine. I believe it was the same the year prior; I remember a conversation we had about it at work around this time last autumn. The lemon, golden, and sunshiny yellows have, until yesterday, been a dull olive color. Instantly though, overnight they seemed to change - my elm is now a pretty buttery yellow, and the two maples out front are positively glowing gold.
I'm off work again today - a scheduled day off for me (it is a holiday, yanno!!!), though even if I hadn't taken the day off, work would have been cancelled again. It's raining now, and is supposed to rain the entire day. And the snow is back in the forecast, this time with 1-3 inches of accumulation...though it's supposed to hold off until after trick-or-treating hours.
I dunno though...I foresee those who do venture out in the cold and rain and make it to my front porch, each receiving handfuls of candy.
