And where is that darned rice? Now on the mice, on the mice (sing high) and where that darn mice, on the rice, on the rice.
The lice is nice, but mainly on the rice.

Okie dokie, I can not call you Okie, cuz that's Siren, and now I'm all mixed up. Unless the Okie you are referring to, Okie, is indeed Siren, and then I understand why you are using it in the third person. Unless you have multiple personalities and refer to yourself in that third-person way. Sheesh, now I know what people mean when they say they don't get "Gabbinese", or that "Phalonese" is difficult to understand. I apparently need to study up on Okiese?, Okieian? Gabbinese and Okieian together has left my head sore. Goodnight to you two, and sweet dreams. storage.proboards.com/893671/images/ljxEFlZASExudmonnAMT.gif[/mgi]

Hey, I totally get you, Okie. I could call you Broad. I liked that one. Give me time.
Fine? Maybe a good temp one.
Goodnight Gams.
It isn't a sacrifice, to the mice, to the mice, to have those darned old lice, shall suffice, shall suffice.
Shall we go to a womb of my own from the flick? I love that tune. This is my version;
All I want is a womb upstairs, far away from the cold night air, where I can go somewhere, and wouldn't it be loverly.
Far away from the cold night air, right up close to my fridgidaire, and all in my underwear ....
Lots of chocolates for me to eat, good programs on the old t.v. and it is all for me...

Hey G, I like this new thread. Something we all having in common. The fine art of whining. Hello newcomer. How about another suggestion for your nickname? Fineone? All this talk of snow from Gabbin and Phalon reminds me of something. Something, something. Oh yeah, now I remember. I wore shorts yesterday. Outside. Pretty wild considering just 2 1/2 hours away today, the mountains are expecting a record snowfall. Ok, ok. Yesterday was a fluke. Very cold and rainy today. Gaggin, remember the chat about flannel a couple of years ago? Is that still saved somewhere? *editorial note: Fineone, please notice the different variations of G-sticks name in this post. Changing others names around here is kind of a prerequisite. Well, in other words, its just fun

Eeeeee! Hola, chica!! Shorts, you say? Braggart! It's officially winter in Okieland, and I am soooo not ready. D*mmit, it's cold!
You did say we could all whine, right E? Then call me cabernet.
Indeed, Fineywiththeshinyhiney, I am rarely funny. But they humor me around here. There are puns aplenty, but since mine are paltry and pallid, I just try and stay out of the way.
*mutters as she wanders off* Where did I put those gloves?

Okfine. I have a friend who says that slurred together like it is one word. I like that. Okayimfinewthat, it seems you will be called everything in the book before long.
Eroc! Shorts! In Decemember! Ack!
Whew. That was exciting.
I discovered that size does matter. It takes some getting used to, at least. More length and width was at first a bit awkward. Traded in the fast, hard grind for the slower, longer strokes.
Hung up my short, narrow roller skis, and got out the longer, wider x-country sticks the other day. Early morning; I was the only one awake; I was the only one out. Very quiet. I was the first to hit the trails, and had them all to myself. It was beautiful.
I've done the same five miles on this trail for nearly a year now, (I got my x-county skis for Christmas last year and the roller skis in spring), and it never ceases to amaze me that I've never been bored traveling the same stretch at least three times a week. It is the same, yet always different....always beautiful.
I went again Monday, the day after, and the same unmarked stretch of pristine snow was covered in snowmobile tracks. I love snowmobile tracks. Ski on them; hard-packed and slick; and the pace is icy-fast. So different than the previous day.
I wonder what it will be like tomorrow?

They are, aren't they, Joxie. I love Calvin and Hobbs. One of my favorite cold weather expressions comes from a Calvin and Hobbs cartoon.
Calvin, after a series of very, very odd expressions on his face, explains to Hobbs that it is "Booger-freezing cold outside."
I went skiing again this morning in the falling snow. I am loving my new mittens; Polar-tec double-lined fleece. Warm and toasty; my fingers feel like they are having a party inside them; everyone mingling all together.
Mittens are so much more fun than gloves. I like waving to people with mittens on my hands; it reminds me of puppets talking.

I hate mittens. I don't like my fingers not having their own slot to go into.

Aw, but Joxie...think of how lonely your fingers must get separated from their buddies like that.
Gloves are a must for work; I can't go without them. Soft, soft sheepskin with a Thinsulate lining that keeps my separted buddies warm in cold weather, yet cool in summer - at least not as hot as you'd think. I trash them. Two pairs this year, and with just a couple of weeks of work left, I reluctantly handed the holey things over to Hubs, not being able to stand them anymore. He took them out to his laboratory, (the garage: his Domain), and proudly came back with them "good as new". Duct taped fingers all shiney silver. Happens every year because they never make it through the entire season, and I like to start with a fresh, unmarred pair in spring.
They go on my Christmas list to Santa; he puts them in my stocking.
But mittens....
Mittens are for play, and I love to play. My finger-tips get numb in non-work gloves.

It is snowing now, and has been for hours. Not the pretty, wafting, gentle snow of greeting cards and snow-globes and made-for-television Hallmark Holiday Christmas specials....the kind of snow that makes you just want to be out in it.
This is an angry snow, blown in directly off the lake by an even angrier wind....those dreaded three words in this area: Lake Effect Snow....tack another word on the end....Warning. Lake Effect Snow Warning. Brrrrr.
It is blowing horizontal to the ground; tiny icy flakes that sound, when they hit the ground, like sizzling bacon in a pan.
Pretty, in its way, but only from the warmth of the house looking out.

Got snow here too. Heard the icey stuff hitting the skylight in the bathroom around 7 something this morning. Been coming down all day. The ground is still soft though, so I don't expect it to stick around for very long.

I remember that from living in the N. KY/Cincinnati area. It seemed winter was more of an icy/rainy/snow mix. We had snow storms here and there, but it seemed the snow didn't stay around very long. It was mostly just icy-cold rain all season. Ick.
If it's gonna be cold, I want snow. And gobs of it.

Yeah... we seldom get a lot of snow. Skis and a snow mobile would be a waste of money here.

You're welcome, Scrappy. I promise I'll get you some sunny ones - there is nothing as pretty in the winter as snow sparkling in the sun. Wondering though, when that'll be. Snow in the forecast for as far in advance as the forecast goes.
It was sunny Monday, but I didn't have my camera with me on the trail. Oh-what-a-ride it was x-country skiing that day. All the snow-mobile ruts erased!!! They are grooming the trail!!!! For as far as I could see once the trail straightened; the point where it becomes wide and flat, was a smooth surface of packed groomed slickness. Man, it was fast, fast, fast. I could have gone forevaaaa...

I spend a lot of time disparaging the lack of clearly defined change in season where I live. I am a tree and grass kind of person and I live in a dirt and cactus state. Our seasons range from dying of heat prostration to tolerable.
For some this is perfect, but I just can’t help but miss all the color and the beauty that comes from the changing seasons. The astonishing oranges and reds of fall and the pure crystalline white of winter.
I say this because I do miss it. A lot. And I am ever grateful to Phalon for feeding my desire for change with her pictures and wonderful descriptions.
However, I have a tendency to forget that there is immense beauty where I live as well. We have the most breath taking sunsets and sunrises I have ever seen. With colors so amazing that painters could not reproduce them with any sort of believability.
This morning on my way to work. I saw something that almost took my breath away. Wished I had a camera. Or even just a place to pull over and look. It rained most of the day yesterday. A nice mellow soft misty rain. The kind that fills the air with wet and makes beautiful little crystal droplets all over everything. The kind that makes you want to curl up with the cat and sleep or read.
Anyway, the clouds went away last night and left us with a bright sunny morning. Low fog rolling along the dry river beds all along the freeway. Sun shining all along the top lighting the fog up like glow in the dark paint. Hiding all the two story houses almost to the roof tops. It was so serene and amazing. Just wanted to pull over and go play in the fog.
So..today I apologize for hating the weather here. Though by the time summer rolls around....

Hello all. Hi Scrappola.
Well, let me tell you...heh, where is Ok? What did you do with her? Huh. I miss okay and am not feeling ok now.
Where was I? Oh, yes, I really jumped into overdrive, and when I do that, stand back. I got a wreath made, tree decorated, cards out, lights up (almost all) cookies baked, presents sent to Xena Sisters.aiaiaiaiaiai. And, of course, some presents bought and wrapped. I have little left but parties and egg snog drinking left. Yeah!
Oh, and this IS exciting. I actually got invited to some parties and didn't have to bribe anyone. Now, the thing is to not make a fool of myself. Any suggestions? Don't say don't drink.
Off to the races.
