Olympics! Yeah! Lets chat about those costumes, those opening ceremonies, those announcers and, oh, yes, those athletes as they limp along.

I am in a bit of an off mood (rough day) so, unfortunately, I am going to start with a complaint;
Bode Miller. I am just not impressed by this guy and really don't want to hear any more about him. It would have been fine if he was not on the US team for me. Yick, yick.
Okay, the US hats. Is this the fashion to come? Yikes.
I cannot wait for ice skating. Love Michelle Kwan-I hope I spelled her Michelle right.

Sorry for your day.
Bode Miller. Right. Bluck.
I'm pulling for the 51 year old luge woman; Gramma Luge. What country she is from, I'm not certain. Costa Rica, maybe?
I wanted to be the one floating up there giving the audience the moon. Hanging suspended from the moon over the audience, I suppose sounds better. And would be better. It's cold out there. Cold buns and you've got a blue moon.
What else...hhhmmm....I read somewhere some past events that are not events anymore. That was interesting. Something about horses; I remember that.
I will join you in your off mood, if you don't mind.

I never thought of it before... having to watch seasonal events out of season. I sometimes forget the whole world isn't in the same season.

Nordic Combined - jumping and 9 mile x-country. Oh man, oh man...did you see those thighs! Sighs. That's all I have to say at the moment; gotta go catch my breath.

Though I bow to your expert opinion on gams, Gams, I have always had a weakness for those gargantuan thighs the speedskaters always have. Ooooooooh, my!

Post by Gabbin on Feb 11, 2006 23:28:58 GMT -6
Yep, power thighs. A lot of those Wisconsin speed skaters move over to cycling and win big there, too. They are like crickets.
I watched some of the opening ceremony on my tape tonight and I was a bit puzzled by the Italiano goings ono (notice that spiffy Italian?). What the heck was the theme from Rocky doing in there? And then the athletes procession had disco-which I know Italians love that-but, wait, Gloria Gaynor singing I will survive and all. Hmmm. And KC and the Sunshiners were in there, too. What madness. Don't they have any Italian discolers? Like Gloria Gaynoro singing Survivo Will dice?
Harumph. I haven't seen anything else, yet. I did see THAT skier-I shall not say his name anymore. Grrr.
Okay, off to peruse.

Yes Gabbin, I did notice that spiffy Italian. Can I have him when you're done?
Gargantuan cricket speed skaters thighs. Wow. On the women too. Just think what you could do with thighs like that; the power of them; the crushing strength.....only speaking athletically, of course.
Saw some of the speed skating today...some of the women's 1500m. Nice outfits...that is what I want for the beach...minus the arms and hood. And skates. Wouldn't want to get strange looks.
Short track; one of my favorite events. Love the calculated moves on the short track; strategic as well as athletic. Sorry to see Ohno messed up. I like him, though I have the urge to get out a razor blade and have at the goat's beard looking thing hanging off his chin.
Missed the women's hockey. Would have liked to have seen that.
Snowboarding...the sport of the androgynous tomato. Boll, Gabbin - I couldn't help but think that watching. Fun to both watch and listen to.

The Flying Tomat. I sure like that fellow. He is the consumate boarder. It is neato to say a totally narly dude emotional and excited about the Olympics, though. They are amazing. I am scared just going halfway up a halfpipe.
I missed the Italian dude. I was talking about that obnoxious American skier, who tanked today. I did see his web-mercial and was like what? But, in the USA Today I say the ad for it and thought it didn't make sense but was just trying to be defensive about being rude.
Alrighty. Yep, Appollo's chin thing. It is less pronounced than last time, I think.
I think my favorite event is the figure skating. It just seems to take so much more than the other events to me. I don't know why I think that but its combo of speed, strength, and precision along with the presentation seems to tough.
I watched a bit of luge. I took luges once...I felt like I was going 90 mph, too.
Why cannot women luge and ski jump? What is that about?
|
|
|
Post by Phalon on Feb 13, 2006 1:03:58 GMT -6
Why can't they luge and jump? Maybe it is a boob thing. Too much lift and they'd be way gone?
I prefer speed skating to figure skating. Just saw the women's speed skating relay a bit ago and Wow. Looks confusing all those skaters milling about in the center. And push-offs - not push-ups, cuz again probably too much lift with those - and the way they lean in the corners...gripping excitement. Makes me want to go out, get on the ice and no doubtably, fall on my @ss.

Wait wait. I seem to remember some big healthy Eat European...I mean east European woman on a luge. I believe A-cupper. I think women do luge. But no ski jumpers.
I think Michell Kwan would be an A cupper.
I shall have to send you a small tea cup with "A-cup a proud of it" written on it.
Hey! I have four stars! I am a four star Gabbin.

A small tea cup. LMAO. A demi-tasse. I have those; my demi-bras.
Ok - I really need sleep now. The threads seem to be all meshing together. What one am I in anyway. Still need to get myself together after watching cricket thighs.

Ah, at last real sports to watch!!!!!!!!!! I love ya all here kids, but gotta say I'm rootin and tootin for our Canuck kids to defend themselves in the only events that really matter ........ to me that is! The hockey!!!!!!!!!!! Go Canucks!!!!!!!!!! Sweep the board again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Retake the game and make our Howie smile in Heaven. Hell it took us 50 years to get the men's title back. (mind you the previous 3 Olympics, the Canuck team was crap! I was embarassed to watch the games, because they definitely didn't deserve to win those ones.) Heh, brings back memories of the 92 games, I was so, um, animated, enthusiastic, energetic down right raving mad, shouting and foaming at the mouth while watching the games on the common room tv at my halls of residence I ended up with the entire basement to myself. I scared everyone else away. ;D I was so bloody chuffed when the women's game finally got added. Man I miss playing so muuuuucccchhhh!!!! So, I've got my Maple Leaf flag hanging out the window and my red and white face paint set for the right days. You'll either hear the cheers or the howls all the way over the pond I'm sure. XV Canadian to the Max Eh!

An ex-hockey player. A hockette, maybe. Go Canada. Course the USA team has that young emergin star player. They haven't show it on t.v. that I have seen. I support any gals doing that sport.
In the paper today I cringed as I read about the wipe-outs the down hill ski-racer and the luger. Ouch. I realized that contusion means big old bruise.
The gold in half-peace-pipe went to a local girl here. She just lives up valley. Yeah!

Error alert! I am using the exclamation point a lot of late.
I made a mistake on the weirner of the half-pipe. The half-pipe wienershnitzel. She actually silvered. They call her the Silver Queen. She is the local girl. Can I make this any more confusing?
I finally saw the rest of the opening ceremony tape. What the heck!!!!!!!! What was going on with Pavarati's crooked painted eyebrows? And, YOKO ONO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yuck. She cannot read poetry, she doesn't have the voice. Maya Angelo please. Yick yick yick. And Peter Gabriel sounded bad singing the English song. I wanted to scream, Italiano culture, please.
Rant.
Okay, well, Bode lost. I like the winners who appreciate what they have done. Harumph.
I am crotchety sounding but, it would be move fun if we were all on the couch with Cheetos. Which reminds me of Erco and Siren.
I love watching the downhill skiers. The Swiss gal, Ana, got the bronze. I saw her a few months ago here as winner. So exciting.

Oooo, yeah those wipe-outs. I saw the replays yesterday and ouch, ouch, ouch. Scary stuff.
Another, less dangerous, but ouch none-the-less this evening in women's short track. I love short track; I think I already said that, (I'm sure I have). I think I missed most of it tonight though. Is is over? Dang.
Still haven't seen any hockey but just a brief moment this past weekend. Still waiting.
Some kind of new event starts tomorrow, I think. Snowboarding something-or-other. I'm not sure exactly what it is, but it looks interesting.
Free-style skiing. My knees ache just watching.

Snowboardcross; that is what the new event. Exciting stuff; I enjoyed watching.
The figure skating - it goes on and on. I appreciate all that goes into it; the competitors are real athletes, but it just drags on forevaaaa.
Are we going to get to see any of this hockey? Dang, when?

Ah, Mistress P. You think you haven't seen the stuff you want to see? Over here they tend to just show the events that have British hopefuls competing in them. As it's the winter games you can appreciate those are few and far between. Oh and of course they show every flippin second of the ice skating and every other set of words out of the commentators mouth are "Torvil and Dean". Anyway, I'm glad I've got cable and I can get some other sports channels, so I've seen some glimpses of the hockey and the luge and bobsledding etc. Ah, me we walloped Italy at any rate, now on to the real competitors. Yes, X-Virgin; I found out that hockey was being televised on some of the cable stations here. Argh, one of these days I may actually subscribe to a program guide so I know what I'm missing.
Skeleton: the name says it all. ACK!!!
Womens Snowboardcross. Sigh. The Thrill of Victory lost in a second, replaced by the Agony of Defeat. Lessons learned: it ain't over 'til the fat lady sings. Or until you're at the bottom of the course.
Oh, and that event from the past I was trying to remember was called Skijoring; an event which skiers were pulled by horses. Would be kinda exciting, I think.

Everyone has been criticizing the young US snowboarder who hotdogged on the final jump in the final race and thus missed out on an almost-sure gold medal. And I was outraged too, until I saw her face and knew that she realized just what she'd done. Didn't duck responsibility or make excuses in a Bob Costas interview later, either. Nobody is hurting over that gaffe more than that 20-year-old. And, after all, she's the one who worked for years to have that opportunity. A very painful lesson learned. As a friend of mine said, "We all do stupid crap when we're young. But she did hers with the whole world watching."

Bobsleds; I don't know if I like... A sport, yes, but an athletic event - not necessarily. Kinda like NasCar, I think, (did I spell that right) - takes a certain about of physical fitness to participate and lots of skill, but careening on a track encased in a speeding bullet takes something away from it for me - just a ride down a hill on a sled. Lugers and sketetoners; they are more one with the elements, (although, when crashing, I'm sure they often wish they weren't). Dog sledders - another ride, but again more athletic...from my point of view, anyway. I wonder why dog sledding is not an Olympic event? And who should get the medals; the musher or the dogs?
And snowshoeing; what about that?
Maybe a whole combo thing; that I would like to see. Snowshoe up the mountain to an awaiting bobsled, slide down the hill, out of the bobsled and mush to the Finnish line. Would be Swede, doncha think?
Speed-skating; I missed the women's yesterday, (I think they skated yesterday), but saw the men last night. Good go at it for the U.S. Nice bronze for Ohno; always a pleasure to see someone graciously accept their place at the finish without making excuses.

Yowsa Scrappy And you flunked out to Sweden tonight too. But believe me I'm in no good mood. The flippen Canuck guys were el crappola grande tonight, and yesterday too. Gods, two shutouts in a row, Howie Meeker must be spinning in his grave. And if he isn't my granddad probably is. They aurughhhh I can't go on.) I've got to go and coax the cats (and my Lady Wife) back downstairs as my shouting and ranting scared them to the top of the house. And I'm miffed that they haven't shown any of the women's games yet, sexist Brits. Grumble, grumble. Give me the bloody team Wayne I'd box their ears till they wanted to get out on the ice just to get away from me. I've seen better playing in peewee leagues, grumble.......... They just better get the lead out. Off to bed now, still grumbling. XV

Canada vs. Finland 0-2 US vs. Sweden 1-2
I am hanging my head in shame....I'll say it again...we suck. Terrible defense, awful offense...watched the whole game in fast forward. pfft
I'm right there with you yelling at the TV. Like it'll do any good. *sigh*

I missed the whole hockey thing. Drat.
Would someone please stun gun Lindsey Kildrow. So painful to watch her ski. Ouch.
USA is slowly sinking behind in medals. Well, we were in second for several days.
I hope to watch some more Oleompics tonight but I seem to be burning out a bit. Oh, but tonight is women's figure skating-must see.
