The Vernal Equalox: The Oxen Rights Movement, springing into action and burning their yokes in defiance of being paired unfairly to another as they plow through life - a tough row to hoe.
No, no - of course not. Vernal Equinox - the start of spring. But spring is my least favorite season - really just an extension of winter here, but instead of snow, we get rain. Cold, dark, dreary and wet.
But ah....good things too! Things start to show life again; the rebirth; the renewal....Reminds me I've got to get my library card renewed this month.

Sorry for your hayfever, lmv. Late summer, early fall until the first heavy frost is like that for me. Ragweed: A completely useless, evil, evil plant that I feel should be purged from the earth....or at least my small corner of it.
Glad for your rain, Poppet!!! I know how you've been needing it. Do things start to grow there in spring, or just remain the same? Just curious; what is the typical growth cycle of plants there?

Gads if we are PG, is my subject okay? Course it is, it isn't violent or anything. Disney is worse than most R-rated ones. Much better LMV.
I am probably G-rated. G for Good or Gabbin. I always forget the topic, don't I?
Oh, Spring. I like spring in my mattress and in my Tigers. I don't get hayfever but feel for you LMV. Now wait a ragweed pickin' moment. It is Fall in Aussie land isn't it? And your toilets flush backward. I am wordly.
I like spring. It is all about bunnies and crocuses. I love going out and looking for first flowers-that is my easter egg-like hunt. I love the birds. I have my bird book out and they are returning. I love spring skiing.

Have a tissue, Chere. Take the whole box.
Spring is for the birds; it's the season with the most activity at my birdfeeder. There was a flurry of activity at the feeder this morning, as I sat with my coffee on the porch and watched. Earl, the downy woodpecker made his appearance, accompanied by the usual nuthatches, (they alway seem to travel together). I saw a flicker; almost too big for the perches, and I don't often see many of them - maybe just one or two a year. A male cardinal perched on the roof of the feeder and walked back and forth, bobbing his head from side to side. At first I thought he couldn't figure out how to get to the seed, but then I saw two female cardinals in the nearby smoke tree. Strutting his stuff for the ladies. Men will perform the strangest antics to get a woman to sleep with them.
The crows are nest building. It's fun to watch them carry sticks in their beaks - big ones; bigger then themselves - flying from my yard to a big Norway spruce in the ravine behind my across the street neighbor's house. What a tough job it must be - back and forth and back and forth; it's been going on for days.
Yesterday, a cool thing. Driving down the road and a pair of cranes took off from a marshy field and flew low right over my car. How beautiful they were.

Early spring means our annual trip to Florida for our Children's Miracle Network conference. It helps us do our fundraising radiothon better. Some entertainers are there every year to support the cause. This year, we saw Tracy Byrd, Richie McDonald of Lonestar, the Backstreet Boys, Carolyn Dawn Johnson, NFL great Steve Young, LeVar Burton, and CMN co-founders Marie Osmond and John Schneider among them. And, Gams, The Wiggles!! I remember how crazy your kids used to be about them.
I was walking back to my room one evening, and saw a young alligator, probably 5 feet long, in the lake there on the resort grounds. Was very cool to see him in the wild. But I sure didn't go any closer!
We also hit a couple of the Disney parks, including my first visit to Disney's Animal Kingdom. Really a neat nature and animal-oriented park. We loved the safari ride best, which displays all sorts of beautiful exotic animals - hippos, giraffes, rhinos, lions, gazelles, elephants, etc - in a very realistic African landscape you're driven through in a safari bus.
At MGM studios, we enjoyed the Tower of Terror, the movie rides, and the frozen lemonade, and spotted a lady who looked so much like Angelina Jolie, including those distinctive lips, she had lots of folks (including us) gaping at her.
Was a fun trip, but it's good to be home.
Spring also means March Madness - the NCAA basketball tourney. My OU women are in the Sweet 16, suhweet indeed! Today, they play Stanford. Come oooooon, Sooners!!

What a great time it sounds like you had, Siren. Even the alligator part - as long as it was viewed from a distance! I've always wanted to ride the Tower of Terror, but haven't been down there in years and years. Someday....hopefully I will not be too weak and feeble by then.
Chere, hmmmm....such a hard guess, (eye roll).
Typical weird spring weather here today - it snowed while the sun was shining.

Spring...Hmmm... I love how the Snowdrops blossom after the snow stops...Though as my friend Lara has said to me, we don't have real snow over here, we have snow with a british accent! I love how the rabbit population in the field next to my house explodes from 3 to 300! And how my adopted horses shed their winter coats and look lovely again ;D 'Lost' starts again on E4 this spring! Spring is also the beginning of the new tax year...not usually something I pay attention to, but its great when you get a Tax Rebate!! Woo hoo!! Kt xx

I saw them again today; the pair of cranes. This time I got a very good look as they flew over me while I was roller skiing. They are unmistakablely whooping cranes, snowy white with black tipped wings, and their flight so unlike any other bird. Completely stretched out from their long necks to their long legs, they fly with their bodies perfectly horizontal, only their flapping wings, (an impressive six foot span), breaking the line.
An extremely rare sight, and I wonder if it is the same pair I saw the other day, though it is about ten miles apart from the first sighting. I suppose it could be, making their way along the marshes of the Black River as they head north to Canada.

Hi Phalon, KT, Siren, IMV.. Yes....the cranes are impressive Phalon...not quite as impressive,IMO as the Florida pelicans-which are my favourite-but we do get the odd crane here later on in the year...just be happy you don't live in Newfoundland-they got dumped with 40 cm. of snow...yesterday-brutal! I don't think we had 30 cm. all winter... ...that's too bad about the hayfever IMV-I had a terrible bout of it for two years and then it completely went away-maybe the same will happen to you....BTW, what does "Pokes you" mean?-must be a regional expression....

we do get the odd crane here later on in the year Just how odd are those cranes, xenamoured? Are they the kind that hoard cats? That wear tinfoil as a hat to repel alien mind control? That believe professional wrestling is a legitimate sport? Just "poking" you, xenamoured. Good to see you! We had a lovely and rare sight last week - snow nestling in redbud blossoms. Just gorgeous stuff. And much-needed moisture, too. They lifted the burn ban - hurrah! - so, my sis's fiance broke out the bbq grill. He was so thrilled to finally get to grill, he took about 20 minutes just to pick out the steaks. Bought beer, too. Was having his own little party out there - a man, his beer, and his fire - and was a happy, happy guy. He and sis just set the wedding date, so our family is abuzz with activity. It'll be a Texas/Oklahoma wedding, a dangerous combination. There could be a brawl at the reception! My Sooner gals got knocked out of the NCAA tourney. Just too much Stanford, right off the bat. OU is used to running up an early lead on opponents. When someone did that to them, they were freaked out for the rest of the game, and never recovered. What a great season, though - the first team to ever go undefeated in Big 12 conference play, and in the conference tourney, to boot. Courtney Paris broke most all of OU's freshman records, and set a new NCAA single-season record for rebounds. We have a raft of terrific recruits coming in next season, and are losing NO starters to graduation. The future is bright in Okieland. ~Siren

Ouch! What's all this poking? I think I'm getting a bruise.
I described seeing the cranes to a friend - still amazed I had seen what I was sure were whooping cranes - they aren't supposed to be here. She said yes, there are eight pairs here in Michigan. They've all been fitted with transmitters to track their movements. Most of them are much further north, near the Upper Peninsula, but one one of the pairs resides here, in my town. Cool beans; they are beautiful creatures.
I don't think I've ever seen a pelican, Xenamoured. They'd be fun to watch, I think.
The brutal snow...I would have loved some of that this winter, but we too, didn't nearly get our usual annual snowfall this winter. The precipation mostly came in the form of rain. I hate rain in winter.
Siren - sorry for your Okie gals. Watching the 11pm news the night you mentioned they were playing, I made sure to check the scores. I saw some team won something; I'm not sure what. But I'm sure you wouldn't have expected anything more outta me.
And oh - speaking of expecting things.....I expect a full report, of course, on what will be served at your sister's wedding reception!

I expect a full report, of course, on what will be served at your sister's wedding reception! It should be quite a feast, Gams. My sis' beloved is Tejano - his folks were born in Mexico, he was raised in Texas. And he tells me that any Hispanic family get-together is cause for a big feed. But a wedding? This is going to be a grand feast, indeed. I will keep you posted. Hide the cabritos (goats)! Yinyang, we once had cardinals nesting in a hedge about 3 inches from our kitchen window. We tried to peek without disturbing Mama, but she always caught us. She would stay put, but would puff her feathers and glare at us. The hideously cute babies turned to sleek little redbirds in no time. We had a super, super time tonight, attending professional boxing matches at a local casino. Saw some really fun bouts. One of the best fights of the night featured two females. And what a bonus: I got to meet former world champion, Sean O'Grady. Girls, he was the cutest thing I've seen in years, and what a sweet man, too! *sigh* I had a crush on Sean when he was fighting 25 years ago, and I was all of 15. Well, he's even more adorable than back then. Goodness! And to cap it off, I won $17 bucks playing the slot machines, while watching Gaggie's UConn beeches lose to Duke on the casino big screen. Practically a perfect evening.

LMV-You are just having a time of it, aren't you?
Siren-I saw my beeches last. I was sad to see your Okies loose. I thought they would go just a bit farther. That Paris resembles Shaq to me, a bit. A big powerful center type...the build. I wish I could have seen them in the semis.
The white crocuses are up! They look like little missle silos. I went out and checked the sides of them to see if USA was printed up the side. This is my Easter egg hunt warm up. I saw a bunny of late too. The Robins are around nesting. If ya put out confetti they will pick it up and build with it.

Hi Kat. They didn't have Apollo 12 or anything on the side. In fact, they opened up later to show little yellow insides. Boy, was I relieved. I was thinking they would launch up in the air.

Oh yes, those sweet potatoes; I wonder if he ever tried one? Sweet taters for the Sweet Tater.
It was a gorgeous, gorgeous day here. Sunny and in the sixties! I was able to get out this afternoon and go roller-skiing. The trail is still smoking I'm sure; I tore it up.
Then worked in the yard a bit, cleaning up the front garden, and a bit of pruning. My crocuses are starting to bloom; only the yellow ones. The squirrels have not gnawed off the blooms yet - they always do. I wouldn't mind so much if they actually ate them, but they just decapitate them, then run off leaving the remains.
More tissues, Chere?
