I thought about getting out the mower today....just to mow over the piles of leaves blown in the yard so I wouldn't have to rake.
Too wet though - for either mowing or raking. It rained off and on all day.
Besides - I couldn't find the gas can for the mower. And blindly on purpose walked past the rake looking for the gas.

My mom likes to mow the leaves. Her neighbor showed her a trick that mulches them down quite nicely.... Take an old license plate and screw it over the opening on the mower. The leaves can't get blown out and are shredded to tiny pieces.

I love to mow the leaves! Sometimes I rake first just to make the piles I mow higher. Our mulching mower has a thingy that closes the blower opening off so the leaves just swirl and swirl until they're those tiny pieces.
Actually mowing grass is one of my favorite things.

Her mower didn't have that feature. She bought a new one at the end of summer. It has levers instead of a steering wheel, so that she can swivel around tight corners. I don't know if it has the mulching feature though.

I have a push mower and find that very frustrating to go over leaves. I have to mow twice as much with that thing. Grrrr. The screws have gone and sometimes when I whip it the bottom keeps going and I am left with the top of the handle.

Can't be a riding mower to get the one-with-the-yard feeling. Ours is a new walk-behind self propelled mulching thing; really fast actually. Our old one: I broke it last summer when I yanked the cord too hard starting it and pulled the whole thing right outta the mower. LMAO. Hubs just stared at me with a look of disbelief in his eyes. Or maybe it was fear. Most likely that what-now exasperated look.
Dreary again today. And much colder.

Perhaps Hubs was making a mental note of what not to let you get your hands on next. Poor Lorena needed a butcher knife ... she just didn't have your strength.

Just say "bless you", G. It's easier to spell.
All right. You made me feel like a rat for gloating about UConn's loss, since you were so nice about my Sooners. *squeak* Just call me Willard.
Interesting that you should say that Courtney Paris reminds you of Shaq. Some have taken to calling her "Lady Shaq". And she's that dominant a player. Was just named the national freshman of the year, and and All-American.
Was leaving the concert tonight just as a fabulous thunderstorm rumbled through, and simply poured rain. We are so thankful for that. But I'm also glad that it held off till after the Medieval Fair in Norman closed for the day. We visited the fair this morning, and had a great time, as always. Saw a fellow in a Gabrielle t-shirt, saw several folks in Amazon costume, and heard the Xena battle cry several times. Lots of great food, crafts, and medieval entertainment. Love, love, love the Medieval Fair. Trying to convince my middle sis to wear a wench costume, and go peddle her crafts there.

Signs of spring today: While roller-skiing, I almost squished a catapillar who'd wandered onto the trail. I heard frogs croaking by the river. Too early, and much too cold for either catapillars or frogs, I'd think, but there they were, daring to get under my wheels. Tiny, bright green leaves are starting to unfold on the honey-suckle along the trail; it is everywhere.
At home the wild iris - short, delicately slender, and very, very deep purple - bloomed in the ravine. Tiny pale violets too. I planted neither, but welcome them in my garden.
The girls picked a big bouquet of daffodils. They aren't open yet, but the buds are big and fat, and will probably open in a day or two inside on the kitchen table.
Tomorrow's signs of spring: Predicted storms with rain and snow - lovely spring weather for my first day back to work.

Yuck on the catepillar. There are so few butterflies....guilt?
LMV-blow away. I am still confused about your seasons.
Siren-No problemo. I just wish I had been able to see them Sooner. I heard about Paris. Is she returning next year? I hope Maryland wins because they have never one. It seems the top teams dominate so much.

No guilt, Gabbin. I said I almost squished the caterpillar. Actually, I practically broke my neck avoiding him.
The forsythia and Corneilian Cherry Dogwoods are blooming at work. Pretty cheery yellows.

The chionodoxa in my yard have started blooming. That's fun to say - chionodoxa. Say it with me...key-on-a-docs-eye. I believe it means in Greek, "glory in the snow", because they bloom so early. Tiny blue stars with white centers. The hill at the old middle school playground is covered with them. It looks like a carpet of blue.
I saw pussy-willows while roller-skiing this evening. I can't believe I've never noticed them 'til now. I've looked for them prior; the marshy area is the perfect place for them to grow. They are different than the French hybrids with the flashy fluffs of white that I planted in the ravine. These wild ones are huge bushes - at least fifteen feet high and probably just as wide. Their catkins aren't stark white, but a pale, pale gray that almost blends in with the color of the branches, and much smaller than the hybrids too. They are just as soft, though. I had to stop and touch.

Ah....Sunday; my day off. Survived my first week back at work relatively unscathed, (looks down at arm....yep, it's stilled attached). Made it through the rain, snow and cold, (stands up, looks towards rear....yep, still there, cuz I thought I froze it off).
Frost last night, but the sun is shining this morning. Off to roller-ski while the temperatures are below freezing and the trail is still frozen firm.
Hopefully, my muscles won't be as stiff as the ground.

It's doing that here. Friday I had the air conditioner on, and then later that evening I had to turn it off because the temp was dropping outside. I woke up Saturday morning to a freezing house, and I've had the heat on ever since.

We have days like that.... air conditioner during the day, and heat as soon as the sun goes down. Very annoying! Those days are the worst on my sinuses... my head just kills me during such times.

Not really what I wanted to do on my day off, but I started some heavy-duty spring cleaning today - just to get the house clean for a visit this weekend from my Mom and brother.
Dusted all those spaces I've neglected...in the corners, the window sills, on top of the refrigerator, along the chair-rails and baseboards. I hated to do it; I've grown quite fond of my dust bunnies. I like to listen to their quiet murmurings from under the bed as I fall asleep at night.
Scrubbed - hands and knees scrubbed, not mopped, the floors. Washed most of the windows downstairs - even tilted the ones in that tilt, (it's been so long, I almost forgot how to work the things), to clean the outside. Vacuumed - behind the furniture. Pristine bathrooms, spotless kitchen, polished furniture.
Do I really think Mom will notice any of this? Does she care? Actually, she'd be appalled I went to the trouble to get it done before she came, always telling me 'I come to see you, not your house.' And if there is anyone as lackadaisical about living with colonies of dust bunnies as me, it would be Mom. Some kids have imaginary friends growing up; I had pet dust bunnies.
But it is done - all but the little stuff which I can do here and there in the next couple of days before they arrive.
Hopefully, the house will stay clean until then.
And now, I've gotta go pick up the girls from school and break the news to them that their dust bunny pets ran away.

Humming birds came to my house looking for nectar . Of course I had to get their feeders out for them. I love to watch them.

I love to watch the hummingbirds too, Yinyang. I don't have a feeder, but they always visit my flower boxes in summer.
I'm always amazed how quickly things get green with a few warmer days. One day everything is bare, the next, tiny leaves unfolding.
The star magnolias and dandelions are blooming. I like dandelions; I like their cheery yellowness and the way they smell. I like when the girls bring me bouquets of them, which never last in a vase though I must put them in one.
Brought to America with the European settlers, they weren't always considered a weed; they were used as a pot-herb or eaten as greens.
I leave them in my lawn just to watch my neighbor go crazy when their fluff blows over into his yard.
