Bree Is Hooked on a Sex Addict
Monday May 1 12:07 PM ET
Bree was sticking with her sex-addict beau despite obvious pitfalls, while Karl dumped fiancee Edie with a goodbye note he left on her pillow on this week's episode of "Desperate Housewives."
Spoiler alert: stop reading now if you've taped this edition for later viewing.)
Meanwhile, the birth mother of the baby Gabrielle and Carlos had gained temporary custody of changed her mind: She arrived with authorities to reclaim the child, who was taken away as Gabrielle (Eva Longoria) fell apart on her front curb.
"You can't do that! We've already fallen in love with her," Gabrielle wailed.
Caleb, the slowwitted, apparently murderous son of mysterious Betty Applewhite (Alfre Woodard), seemed to be living on borrowed time. An increased burden on her and her other son Matthew, he may soon become the victim of a phenobarbital overdose: "Just a few extra drops, he simply falls asleep," Betty explained to Matthew. "It's time to give your brother the peace he deserves."
Outraged at getting ditched by caddish Karl, Edie (Nicollette Sheridan) found comfort from the guilt-ridden Susan (Teri Hatcher), nervous that the vengeful Edie would discover it is she, Karl's ex-wife, who is the other woman.
Instead, Edie had pegged as the culprit a sexy waitress at a Hooter's-style restaurant nearby. She and Susan headed there for Edie to drink away her woes, but at the sight of the waitress, Edie pounced. A brawl ensued.
Later, Edie gave Susan a sisterly hug for having joined her in the fray.
But uh, oh! Edie then retained a private eye to trail Karl and identify the woman who split them apart.
"I want to nail that ho to the wall," Edie told the PI.
Lynette (Felicity Huffman) attempted to help Ed, her boss, spice up his sex life with his wife. But the effort backfired, and the wife demanded that someone pay for interfering. Since Lynette is too valuable to the firm to let go, Ed informed her that, to save his marriage, he will have to make Lynette's husband Tom, another employee, the scapegoat and fire him.
Finally, Bree (Marcia Cross) declared her loyalty to Peter, who has been her sponsor in Alcoholics Anonymous and is himself a sex addict. Bree volunteered to be his sex-addiction sponsor.
"It's dangerous to care about me," Peter protested. "A lot of people have, over the years, and they all wind up getting hurt."
"I can be very strong for people I really care about," Bree replied. "Taking care of people is what I do best."
