Viewers flew to 'Mars' on CBS
And now they're back watching Veronica on UPN
For all those "Veronica Mars" virgins who caught one of the four episodes that CBS aired earlier this month, tonight is required viewing. It's a repeat of the episode where "Buffy the Vampire Slayer's" wonderful Alyson Hannigan guest stars. It's also one of the last shows before Veronica solves the mystery of who killed Lilly. It looks as if the CBS cross-promotion worked pretty well, though whether the viewer boost will hold for the new season isn't certain. UPN says that since CBS aired its first "Mars" episode, ratings for UPN airings of the show Wednesdays at 9 have climbed 14 percent among viewers 18-34, 33 percent among 18-49s and 20 percent in total viewers. The network also says that more than 93 percent of the 13 million viewers who watched any of the "Mars" telecasts on CBS had never seen the episodes before. Maybe those people tuned in to UPN last week, when "Mars" drew a UPN summer-best 2.0 million viewers. UPN tries to to better that total tonight at 9 p.m. with a repeat of the episode where Veronica helps classmate Mandy search for her missing Jack Russell terrier and Trina (Hannigan) tries to get Aaron involved with her new boyfriend's independent movie.
