Secrets from the 'Ghost Whisperer' Set
November 18, 2005
MARK STEINES goes ghost hunting with JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT on the set of "Ghost Whisperer," airing Friday nights at 8 p.m. on CBS, for the episode in which a ghost appears to Melinda (Jennifer) through "white noise."
"I don't really know about it, and it's not something my character Melinda really knows about either," Jennifer tells Mark. "It makes her physically ill. It is our first spirit who is not solid, not a person like you and me standing here having this conversation. She is going to be a hard person for me to get to and understand what is going on."
It all begins when Melinda and Jim (DAVID CONRAD) hear voices behind the static in their car radio, and Melinda determines that they are spirit voices. Since Melinda has never been presented with a spirit in this form, she has to figure out a way to decipher the message, but the white noise makes her physically ill, and affects her ability to contact the spirit as she normally does.
"You read every script and there are things you like and there are things you love, and I read this one from top to bottom and said, 'This is going to be so cool,'" comments AISHA TYLER, who plays Melinda's business partner Andrea. "It is based on this phenomenon that I actually don't know the right term for, but it is radio frequencies where people are hearing the dead through radio static or television static. It is a phenomenon that has been studied for years. It is a very spooky episode and very cool."
Truth be told, since the pilot episode, "Ghost Whisperer" has become scarier and sexier!
"I think part of that is us wanting to kick it up a notch and have people not just cry every Friday, but have people be on the edge of their seats," Jennifer admits. "Also, I think that viewers like the fact that the show is scary and that we can go to some scary places, so it can be your horror movie and your love story at the same time."
