Post your prayers, good wishes, positive thoughts, hugs -n- kisses, etc. here for those you feel could use it.
Such as:
Prayers for those who survived the bush fires in Australia. Prayers for those who lost their homes, property, &/or livelihood. Prayers for those who lost friends/family due to the fires. Prayers for those who are helping fight the fires & rescuing the hurt and injured. Prayers for those who are helping in other ways: food, clothes, shelter, etc.

Thanks guys, think those prayers/thoughts will come in handy in the next few days/weeks, with the weather, and wind, starting to rise again after a cooler period.
Still large fires burning so there's no end in sight, and if weather conditions deteriorate as predicted the limited control that's been gained could be lost again.

Have they determined if the fires are a natural disaster, or if they were aided by arson? I read an article last week in which the fires were rumored have been set by a group of teenagers that were in custody. It was a false report, but they were still investigating the arson theory.

Have they determined if the fires are a natural disaster, or if they were aided by arson? Both unfortunately Lady P, a man has been charged over one of the fires that killed at least eleven people, and there are ongoing investigations into several others that the police deem suspicious. A second man, who was manning a roadblock, has been charged with arson after he threw cigarette butts into grass because he apparently wanted to see what would happen; what happened was they started a fire [ surprise surprise ] but it was brought under control quickly and caused no real damage.

The human mind never ceases to amaze me. Curiosity has given us so many things that have benefited the entire race; then there's the kind of curiosity that is just plain asinine. The man who threw cigarette butts into the grass just to see what would happen falls into the latter category.

Part of an article I found...
A strong earthquake rattled New Zealand at 4:35 a.m. local time Saturday morning. The USGS posted a magnitude of 7.2.
The quake epicenter was four miles south-southeast from Christchurch, New Zealand, on the nation's south island. Local media reports there have been strong aftershocks and power outages throughout the city.
Christchurch is New Zealand's second largest city with a population of approximately 372,000.
Some Twitter users in Christchurch were awoken by the earthquake and tweeted about it:
@mojomathers: OMG! That was a freakin big earthquake. Stuff broken. Ongoin aftershocks. Hope everyone ok
@the4avenues: CRAZY earthquake in #Christchurch this morning! That got me out of bed faster than any alarm-clock.
@julierodenberg: 7.4 magnitude earthquake in Christchurch. It shook the water out of the toilet bowl. Crazy!

You're very welcome, Siren. What makes her death all the more tragic is that she could have lived if someone hadn't of gotten so out of control. A lover's spat is no reason to die.

My heart goes out to all the people of Japan suffering in the wake of the earthquake and tsunami - the natural disasters that literally shook the world (and knocked it off its axis). Then there's the man-made one still unfolding - the horrific nuclear plant crisis. Sheesh, I can't even begin to imagine the implications of that (or the implications of any of it, for that matter).
Hearing and thinking of little else these past four days, I think I've reached the point of news overload. Blah. Enough for today, and think it's time for bed.

I could have sworn I bumped this thread when New Zealand had their recent earthquake, but I guess not. I've been distracted with Mom and her dialysis, so I haven't been paying much attention to the news. But then I don't watch the news much anyway.
Alyssa Day/Alesia Holliday and her family just moved to Japan recently. Her husband is in the military and he got stationed there for a few years.

My sister and I have divided the day, so we each do two treatments a day. Except she got the 24-hour flu bug and I did 3 on Saturday and 4 on Sunday, and 3 on Monday. So Tuesday I did 1, and my sister did the other 3. Today mom is sick. We were worried we weren't staying as clean as we're supposed to, but her bag is clear, so we're pretty sure she got the flu bug. I haven't had it yet, but after being with her today and her tossing her cookies during a dialysis treatment, I'm waiting for me ending up sick soon.
We go in April to learn how to do the nighttime machine, and then mom won't have to do a 'manual' treatment 4 times a day, just every night when she goes to bed. And then only have to do a manual treatment if she has to go to the doctor empty, so she'd have to empty before going to the doctor and then fill when she got back home, and then go back on the machine at night. The fluid fills the cavity inside her abdomen, around her intestines, etc. It's basically sugar water and other stuff. It draws the 'poisons' out of her blood through the vessel lining, and when she drains the fluid into a bag it looks like urine.
I don't know who figured this all out, but it's amazing how it works. If you want to know more, do a search for:

Aw, I'm sorry your Mom got the flu; it's been going around here lately too. Hope she's feeling better, and that you escaped unscathed.

It took her all week, but she's starting to get over it. I haven't gotten it yet, but if I do get it I hope I don't give it back to her.

We lost Sally Ride to pancreatic cancer today. She "blazed a cosmic trail for U.S. women into orbit" according to Boston.com and that may be an understatement. Certainly the US's first woman in space inspired many along a different career path, but with her it was a lifetime commitment. Along with space missions, she managed to write five science books for children. She could have done nearly anything, but she formed a company dedicated to helping educate children. In other words, she made a difference.
