I have to admit, I didn't put the banner up because Jox got to it first. But I would've done it if she hadn't!

You could always cheat and use Babelfish... Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Freund! There's that word again.... alles. All good to Birthday? I didn't know birthday was a verb.

What's really funny is when I ran “Alles Gute zum Geburtstag, Freund!” back through the translator, it translated to “Warmest greetings, friend!” Then when I translated “Warmest greetings, friend!” back to German, it translated into “Wärmste Grüße, Freund!” Wondering how many times it would change, I translated “Wärmste Grüße, Freund!” back to English, and it came back as “Warmest greetings, friend!” However, when I translated “Geburtstag” on its own, it translated it to “Birthday.”It's all so confusing.

Hi Les! Nobody say in german "Wärmste Grüße" ;D ( if you say that, then every germans believe that you´re gay )( warmest greetings ) That means then "Liebe Grüße" ! You can´t translate "Happy Birthday to you" word by word. It´s a phrase and in german means that "Alles Gute zum Geburtstag" . Eirene

That's kinda like Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. I never understood why we're supposed to say that instead of Happy Christmas or Merry New Year. And why do we park in a driveway and drive on a parkway? Why do we sit in stands? Why does your nose run, and your feet smell? Why are they called apartments when they are all stuck together? If "con" is the opposite of "pro", then is Congress the opposite of progress? Why isn't common sense so common? Ah, the joys of language!

Merry x-mas and Happy New Year are right the same like in German. Merry means in german froh ---> Merry christmas = Frohe Weihnacht Happy New Year means in german Glückliches neues Jahr But really many word are the same like in english. Sometimes i believe, i should start a tread "German for beginners... ;D " But it was a nice wordgame... Eirene
