Cool. I need to pay more attention to things, I guess. And, yeah, I do prefer the freshly grated Parmesan cheese at restaurants. So, small blocks for recipes makes better sense.

BP has been disgusted with the meat industry since watching "Food, Inc." a couple of years ago; she hasn't really liked eating meat since, and a lot of the times when we have meat, especially beef, with dinner, she'll cook something else for herself. We get a lot of our beef, chicken and eggs from Crazy Cheryl, and though it's not organic, the cows and chicken have run of the farm, and are treated humanely. She slaughters the chickens herself, but takes the cows to a local slaughterhouse like the ones Joxie mentioned. If I do buy meat at the grocery, most of the time I buy the free range stuff. Watching Leonardo Dicaprio's latest environmental documentary "Before the Flood" over Thanksgiving weekend though, send her over the edge; the methane gases from the livestock industry are a big contributor to global climate change. She is eating vegetarian now. I have noticed there are a lot of vegetarians in my line of business. For obvious reasons.I frequently go meatless but I tell people all the time that my meat comes off the cellophane tree. And so long as I have the ability to disassociate where my meat actually comes from I will continue. *sigh....though I will still feel guilty.

I can't say I feel guilty...not exactly, although it is hard to look into those big brown eyes of Crazy Cheryl's cows or see them grazing in the fields when I drive by, and picture them as slabs of meat in our freezer.
Although we too eat meatless meals quite often, I don't have intentions of giving it up entirely. I disassociate also, which is why, although BP has said more than once I should watch "Food, Inc.", I've always declined.
Cooking up a big vat of chili now for the weekend - lots of veggies in it: tomatoes, of course, chili peppers, red bell peppers, black beans, white beans, corn, and zucchini. And beef. Although I like chili meatless, I like it with beef or chicken too. I'll add the meat, which I precooked earlier, last after I take out enough of the veggie only chili for BP.

Wow! Some people know how to think outside the box. Or, inside the boat.

Funny how under the right circumstances, something otherwise gross and/or ugly can be beautiful. And how some things that are beautiful can be so dangerous, life threatening even.

I'm not as afraid of heights as Mom was. I'm only afraid of heights if I don't feel safe. If the railing or floor has slits I feel I can fall through, I'm terrified. When I feel safe, I love being up high.
When I was in third grade, we lived by a deep creek. I don't recall if it was already there, or if Dad put it there, but there was a wide/thick, square board across the width to walk on. Dad was an iron worker, and he told us to look at the board, and ignore the ground. I recall walking across it a few times without fear, but the last time I walked across it I stopped halfway over, scared to death I was going to fall, and that was the end of crossing the creek from above it.

My fear of heights is weird. I love roller coasters; no matter how tall or fast; whether it corkscrews, or loops; standing or sitting or dangling feet, I can't resist them, and the height has never bothered me. On the other hand, I can't get on a ferris wheel, which probably stems from being stuck up on top of one with my brother for 20 minutes or so when we were kids, and he kept rocking the seat back and forth. Other than that one experience, I was never afraid of heights as a kid - heck, we used to jump off the garage roof using pillowcases as parachutes (until Mom caught us, of course).
It wasn't until I was in my twenties that the fear really set in...and it's only when there is nothing behind me. Hubs and I took a belated honeymoon to Hawaii on our third or so anniversary. When we were on Oahu, we hiked up Diamond Head, the dormant volcano. The scenic overlooks along the way, the tunnel, and 99 steep stairs up to the bunker, and the view from the summit once we crawled through the bunker - none of it bothered me....
(This is a cool fast motion video of the trek)
It was those very, very last stairs though (about 4:50 into the video) up to the tippy-top that got me. About half-way up the staircase, I froze, absolutely paralyzed for no reason what-so-ever. Hubs had to literally pry my hands off the railing and walk me to the top. Once I got up there, I was fine. I had never felt anything like that in my life, and since then, I can't stand to be up high, and not have something solid behind me.

I don't understand why I could walk across that board/beam many times, and then that last time I stopped in the middle of it terrified to make another step. And, as I've said, I only have a fear of heights when I don't feel safe. As long as I feel as though I won't fall, I love heights.

Sadly, the running theme seems to be that they squandered the money and went back to living in poverty. If they'd had good people in their lives, perhaps they would have saved enough to live out the rest of their days. Really sad.

Very true. Members of both families seemed to have some mental instabilities that were exploited by outsiders in order to make money.

These pop up among the lists whenever I watch videos that have to do with the paranormal/strange/mysterious/etc.

drilling for the 31 Days of Halloween (or you probably haven't guessed it, but like those who start their Christmas shopping early, I've started the Halloween the line-up the other day). Okay, is this BP or LX? Phalon wouldn't do this - it's not September 28th and starting early isn't her thing. And you mentioned Christmas - proof that this isn't Phalon! She wouldn't do that until after Halloween and a dose of Reese's. Although, some of us have been known to start our Christmas shopping early, Phalon just seems to be more of a last-second-and-in-a-pressured-rush type.

Whenever Mom didn't remember something that I remembered happening, she would tell me I dreamed it up. My sister now does that too. It's frustrating.

HA! Yes, it was me, and yes I've been scanning the recesses of the Internet for the bizarre (which started the day we encountered the creepy-@ss person dressed in the tattered Scooby Doo costume a couple of weeks ago; this weekend it was the guy riding a motorcycle wearing an evil clown mask!). I always start drilling and gathering stories a little early - Halloween is like my Christmas. And yes, I do wait to start Christmas shopping until after Halloween and the last of the Reese's are gone....and after Thanksgiving and the last of the turkey is gone, and after December 1st and the first of the snow starts to fly!
And you were exactly who I had in mind when I said some people start their Christmas shopping early. (You're probably done, aren't you?!)
I bet it is frustrating. Is it like when I tell Hubs, who has a terrible memory, that something happened that didn't, insisting he's just not remembering? <evil cackle>
I always say I'm just kidding in the end though!

Phallllonnnn. Hi. After an interesting few months, my seventy year old mother having a triple bypass, going to England to meet my future wife’s family and moving into my new house that I purchased just before my mother had her surgery. I have finally dug out my books that I have been writing. It was an interesting find, are any of you interested in me posting a couple of chapters from the Xena one?

No. It's me knowing it happened, and them telling me I dreamed it up. If they don't remember it, it didn't happen.
There are a couple of places where you can post it. If it's a 'work-in-progress,' you can post it on one of the 'Workshop' boards:
whooshorg.proboards.com/board/103/workshops
Or, if it's a completed work, you can post it on one of the 'Prose & Comps' boards:
whooshorg.proboards.com/board/355/prose-comps
I also just created a new board that is still under construction:
parchment-n-quill.proboards.com/
I hope all of your mother’s troubles are behind her now. Dad had bypass surgery. Does she have a small pillow to hold to her chest when she sneezes, or coughs, or laughs? The hospital gave Dad a heart-shaped one, and it helped with the pain. Hope your trip is a great one, and that only good things happen.

Chere! Hope all went well with your mother's surgery and that she is on the mend, and congratulations on your engagement and your new house.
Most certainly would like to read what you've been writing. I'm not a Facebook person - I only log in every once in a blue moon - but recently saw you posted a drawing you did; I thought it was fabulous. Don't know if you had a model or if the drawing is of someone you know, but you seemed to capture the beautiful soul of someone who seemed to have a very interesting life.
That would most definitely irk the hell out of me!
