Ah *rubbing hands* good topic! First one that came to mind: "Love Affair" (1939) - French playboy Michel Marnet and American Terry McKay fall in love aboard ship. They arrange to reunite 6 months later, after Michel has had a chance to earn a decent living. But tragedy occurs, and keeps Terry from keeping their appointment. This is a terrific movie that has spawned 2 remakes - "An Affair To Remember" with Cary Grant and Deborah Kerr, and "Love Affair" starring Annette Bening and Warren Beatty (skip that one). But the original is still the best. The chemistry sparkles between the two leads, their falling in love is believable and sexy, the story develops beautifully, and the resolution is completely satisfying. BTW, if you get through the scene with Michel and his granny without crying, you're stronger than me! Another timeless love story is "Casablanca". Surely everyone here has seen it. If not, run - don't walk - and get a copy. Buy a nice copy on dvd. You'll want to keep it forever. It's the perfect movie: romantic, funny, sexy, exciting, intriguing, mysterious.

Romancing The Stone The Last of the Mohicans Ladyhawke Strictly Ballroom Quigley Down Under The Moon-Spinners
Beauty & The Beast - The TV Series
Ah, good girl, Mia! Any excuse to watch "Mohicans" is a good one, as far as kat and I are concerned. Love it! Great one for those who like drama, adventure, realistically bloody battle scenes, hiss-worthy villains and swoon-worthy heroes and heroines. Oh, and absolutely sizzling chemistry between the 2 leads. Wonderful story, too. "Beauty & The Beast"? Yay, again! Perhaps the most romantic tv series, ever. Gosh, "Ladyhawke". Haven't seen that in years. So good, they sort of based a Xena episode ("Succession") on it. To our Valentine's Day Marathon, I would add "Sense & Sensibility" with Emma Thompson, Hugh Grant, and Kate Winslet..."Titanic" with Kate Winslet and Leo DiCaprio (sad ending)..."It Happened One Night" with Clark Gable and Claudette Colbert..."Waterloo Bridge" with Vivien Leigh and Robert Taylor (sad ending)...and "Moonstruck" with Cher.

A couple more romantic movies came to mind... "Cousins" - Isabella Rossellini and Ted Danson meet at a wedding between their respective family members, and sparks fly. When they find out that their spouses are having an affair, they decide to punish them by faking an affair of their own. Ted Danson is surprisingly good and completely charming in this, and Isabella is lovely. They have delicious chemistry. Sean Young and a pre-"CSI" William Petersen are terrific as their cheating spouses. Lloyd Bridges is wonderful as Ted's randy dad. imdb.com/title/tt0097116/"Only The Lonely" - IMDB synopsis: A lonely cop (John Candy) falls for a lonely funeral home worker (Ally Sheedy). They get engaged, despite his overbearing mother. But when push comes to shove, he can't quite quit worrying about his mother long enough to really commit to his sweetheart. This is a sweet film about adult children finally growing up, and moms learning to let go. Maureen O'Hara just about steals the film as Danny's pushy Irish mom. imdb.com/title/tt0102598/"Tristan + Isolde" has its flaws, namely, IMO, James Franco's wooden performance. But it's a beautiful film, gorgeously shot and costumed, and filled with pretty people. Rufus Sewell and Sophia Myles are very good as good King Marke and the lovely Isolde. But when your leading man is as bad as Franco (IMO), it really hurts the overall power of the film. Still, there are worse ways to spend 90 minutes than by watching pretty people in a star-crossed lovers story. imdb.com/title/tt0375154/
